Have you ever looked in a mirror in passing and wished you hadn't?I did just that today, and saw a little pale worried old face looking back at me! I have had some sort of virus this week and can't stop coughing, but didn't realise I looked THAT bad.I went off and slapped some tanning moisturiser on it. Now it looks like a little worried old face [but tanned.]I think I give up.

Gillybob I have learnt to close my eyes when the iPad starts in the morning. Otherwise that woman with the jowls and lank hair has sneaked into my bed.

Stansgran Mon 04-Aug-14 09:22:49

My DD said you are a lovely old lady. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I know what you mean jings I was sitting up in bed waiting for mine to come on and caught a glimpse of this sloppy saggy face looking up at me. Aaaaagh . What a fright. The other day my sister and I were comparing looks and traits we have inherited from our parents . My sister got my dad's blonde hair (well when he had hair anyway) and his slim build. I got my mums pathetic hair, her tickly leg problem and her saggy jowls. Lovely.

These days, every time I look in the mirror I see my Granny looking back at me, and last week I met a lady I haven't seen for years, and she told me I was the image of my 91yr. old father. He's lovely but I'd rather not look like a very elderly gentleman.hmm

My Kindle Fire, when it's starting up, acts like a mirror. And, as I've got my reading glasses on by then, it shows up every wrinkle. A bit depressing.

MrsPickle Sun 03-Aug-14 21:22:49

I have a mirror face. It's neither smiley, nor stern. Neutral.
But I was required to take a selfie of pooch and myself last week. Now that, let me tell you, is a lot worse than a mirror, as it was recorded for posterity.

I hope you gave yourself a good telling off?

Galen Sun 03-Aug-14 21:14:48

Never do that with my glasses on since I saw my strict old grandmother looking at me!

I suppose it's inevitable that we end up looking like our mothers/fathers/grandparents. We just never thought it would happen! neither did they, when they were young.

When I look in the mirror I see my mum looking back at me. Now I know I am not the only one who sees her. When I showed my granddaughter a photo recently taken of my 92 year old mum, I said, "Who is that?" She said "Its you granny"

Looking in the mirror and seeing grandma wouldn't be so bad, on a bad day I look and see my father in drag!!

Their sales are often brilliant value too!

Rowantree Thu 19-Jun-14 20:58:48

Atqui smile glad you like them! I love their ranges. Once you find a style that suits you it's great to have a wide colour choice. They aren't cheap, but I wear their stuff a lot, so it's good value for me.

I think it was Rowan tree who suggested Kettlewell, website. thanks so much. It's just what I've been looking for!!!

My new X7 make-up mirror arrived today....I was very brave and took a peek....eek! But, really I do need it when trying to do a bit of make-up (once a month if lucky we go 'out') and for those annoying times when you get an eye lash in your eye...take glasses of and can't see a darn thing!

jeanie99 Tue 17-Jun-14 21:48:14

Mirrors are a not good thing to own when you get to my age.

Although having said that I don't look too bad when I take my specs off and look, there are benefits to being short sighted.

I still feel 25 inside.

rosequartz Tue 17-Jun-14 21:15:08

I think M&S buy their mirrors from the place that supplies the Hall of Mirrors in Blackpool, the ones that make you look fat.

I have been told that smearing Vaseline on the camera lens can give a soft focus effect. Otherwise use Photoshop.

sherish Tue 17-Jun-14 13:33:29

M&S are the absolute worst! I look so fat, so pale, don't suit anything I try on, don't look anything like the other women parading through the changing area looking elegant. I tend to buy then try on at home now.

Flowerofthewest Tue 17-Jun-14 12:29:23

When trying on in a changing room I close my eyes until I have the item on. Hate those 'show it from all sides' mirrors. I don't even like to see 'it' from one side let alone every side.

rosesarered Tue 17-Jun-14 11:06:49

Flower some flowers for you! flowers We all have times like that, but hopefully not too often.
Mirrors do vary a lot, also the light, and quality of the light as well. Harsh tube lighting is the worst, and the mirrors in M&S where you can view your bulges from all sides. grinYes , MaggieMaybe we must all avoid that downward look into the mirror. A trick I have perfected when someone is taking a photo of you; look up [really up] when you then see the photo, it looks so much better [and strangely you don't appear to be looking up, but the posture just looks normal, instead of a bit hunched. This improves things [slightly.] grin

Huff on the mirror - it takes 20 years off

kittylester Tue 17-Jun-14 07:04:38

I once looked in a magnifying mirror shock

Flowerofthewest Mon 16-Jun-14 23:24:52

After 11 days in hospital after a kidney removal my DH pushed me in a wheelchair into the hospital lift to take me home. I was faced with a pale, miserable, pained face with the most amazing frizzy hair (my hair isn't normally frizzy) Dressed in a nightie with a catheter bag strapped to my leg.
It was horrifying. I wish he had pulled me into the lift instead of pushing me directly to the mirrored wall.
