Why do manufacturers think that both your IQ and your age plummet at night only to return to normal during the day? I do not want slippers with toy dogs on the toes, nightdresses/pyjamas with cartoon characters/silly slogans/twee pictures, etc, etc. I'd like something stylish and grown up, but not fuddy duddy nor overtly "sexy". I've just looked at M&S ballerina slippers and there isn't a pair I'd contemplate. Of course, I realise this is a personal view and other people may love them!

JayH I've pm'd you!

OP, I'm with you on this one. I find M&Co stock a nice range, from practical to pretty/slinky and a good range of sizes.

I don't wear anything to bed - I'm warm blooded smile but do wear pjs for lounging and wandering round the house.

I buy them in Florida when we go on holiday. The Americans all seem to wear nightwear of some description so there is a lot more choice, in a greater range of sizes and lots of things without motifs. Grown up nightwear smile

Dont wear anything ...

Nelliemoser Sun 17-Jan-16 00:23:49

Oh dear! Nothing slinky for me. I always wear pyjamas, cotton or polycotton. I can't stand nighties rucked up around my backside. No slogans or pictures often checks. I am sitting here in my dressing gown and my navy PJs with white dots.
I am really nesh and I seem to go into hibernation mode when I sleep and I generate no extra heat at all. I think I must have dormouse genes some where in my DNA.

I buy silky nighties from M&S ribbon straps or slightly wider they come to calf length and I have also bought one just to the knee. They come in pretty prints. I wouldn't wear cartoon characters either, I'm not 5! Can't stand pyjamas or anything with a sleeve. Not so much choice as previous years I see they do similar in BHS

Used to be happiest sleeping without, but now it's a cotton, sleeveless nightie, preferably white with a square neckline. Does that sound a bit neurotic?? Not cotton jersey or tee-shirt like material. I once had to go and buy and wear a long sleeved and high necked Winceyette nightie when I had to be dressed as Grandma from 'Allo, Allo - don't ask! I thought I would suffocate. Couldn't begin to think about pyjamas! Do you wear them with knickers? I feel hot just thinking about things around my waist - or what's left of it.hmm

Aaaah, now I get it!!

crun Thu 10-Dec-15 12:30:54

I could do with a better looking one FarNorth, it's getting a bit the worse for wear these days.

granjura Thu 10-Dec-15 09:28:46

Well I live in a cold climate in winter- and can't bear to sleep with the window closed- or I get a headache. So a good duvet and a good cotton nightie, yes.

FarNorth Thu 10-Dec-15 07:37:13

Yes petra I too used to be happier in the nuddy but nowadays I feel cold if I don't wear something substantial, preferably with a collar to avoid draughts round the neck.
Men's nightshirts can be good, rather than a nightie.

FarNorth Thu 10-Dec-15 07:29:10

Birthday suit, crun?

Alima Thu 10-Dec-15 06:31:28

.....is that why it's hairy?

Alima Thu 10-Dec-15 06:29:48

"moles" crun?

crun Thu 10-Dec-15 00:58:39

I could do with some better looking nightwear, mines all hairy and wrinkly, and covered in moles.

tanith Wed 09-Dec-15 21:24:57

I'm with you petra grin

I would genuially like to know why people wear anything in bed. Is it because your cold, not comfortable naked. It's always felt wrong to me to wear anything.

GeorgeW Wed 09-Dec-15 13:19:47

I buy pj bottoms cos they tend to have stripes/spots/stars/checks as a pattern if anything at all. I find the tops in pj sets too short for lounging around in. I imagine they are on the shorter side because they're better for sleeping in?! I pair my new "lounge pants" with old t-shirts, the ones you've worn until they've lost their shape & are a bit faded! I have twice as many tops cos I change them every day or every other day, another reason pj sets wouldn't work for me!

Jayh Wed 09-Dec-15 13:05:29

I would love to find a truly long nightie and dressing gown. I am 5ft 5in but it is difficult to find garments that come down to my ankles and don't stop at my calf. M&S do some but if anyone knows of a supplier then please let me know.

Maranta Wed 09-Dec-15 13:00:14

I gave up on nightdresses when I was going through the menopause. I didn't like my sweaty legs sticking together! Much more comfortable in pjs.

tanith Wed 09-Dec-15 12:21:34

I have various PJ's with fleecy long sleeve tops but I have to take them off to sleep I cannot abide anything rucking round me I have trouble turning over in bed and its so much easier naked.. its a nightmare if I'm away or when I was in hospital I can manage as what I have on is slippy then I can turn myself..

granjura Wed 09-Dec-15 12:02:05

Can't stand PJs - I wear cotton nighties- with long sleeves and long length in the heart of our very cold winters, and short sleeves and knee length rest of the time. Plain or stripes - can't stand frills or silly patterns.
