While i have a vague idea of what suits me I know I could be making more of myself and wondered if anyone had found these consultations useful. Or not?! Be worth it if it'll prevent me from buying duds I don't wear - or do wear but look terrible in!

I had it done years ago and it's made all the difference. Also helps when shopping because you don't even consider the colours that don't flatter. You can do it for yourself, though it helps to have a friend whose opinion you trust. Just hold colours up to your face, in a good light, and see which drain your skin and which don't.

Anyone know where I could get this done and how much please?

My voucher from DH is from Colour Me Beautiful who are recommended by Kettlewell and seem to be the most well known company. I think it costs about £100 for and hour and a half consultation.

I've had mine done twice. Once more recently as I felt perhaps I had aged a bit!!!!!!!! Anyway, I had them done by Colour Me Beautiful and many years ago I was a Deep Autumn, they changed the categories by the time I returned as a more mature lady grin and I am now 'Soft and Warm'!!! Possibly a 'Warm Autumn' in the earlier descriptions. However, skin tone and hair colour change and the consultant was excellent. I did wear strong colours which I loved, but now the shades of the same colours are softer and warmer and are much more suited to the older 'me'. I would highly recommend anyone to have it done. It is an enjoyable (and possibly) an enlightening experience. Unfortunately, I have no idea of the cost nowadays. If you log onto the the colourmebeautiful.com website and put in your postcod, a list of consultants near you will appear!! Good luck and enjoy it all including the new you!! wink

I had my couplers done in 2001 and again in 2014. I had all the wrong colours in my wardrobe of course, but felt really liberated to start buying colours I have always liked ( bright colours, pinks, yellows) but didn't have the cinfidence to wear. I have really enjoyed slowly updating my wardrobe so it's been great fun. Go for it, it's very liberating and great fun

Having worn mainly Autumn colours I had a Colour Me Beautiful consultation and turned out I am cool and soft.
It helps to coordinate my wardrobe, though some colours in my palette are more 'me' than others. They do a great range of make up too, their eye shadows are especially good quality.

Npw56 are you independent or do you work for an organisation? Any advice on how to choose a consultant?

I haven't had my colours done but I have had a personal shopper, twice. The first time it was a young girl of about 20 years old. The second time, I went with a friend and there were two consultants. Both times they brought out clothes I was sure were totally wrong for me but I was surprised to find many of their choices were really good once I tried them on. They really know their job and I'd certainly go again.

I can no longer wear the same shades of colour I did when young so it seems a good idea, but roughly what would a consultation would cost?

kittylester Sat 06-Feb-16 07:52:08

Around £100, I think alternativegran, as I said further up thread. smile

I had mine done about 30 years ago when DH & I decamped to a heath farm for a few days while our kitchen floor was being laid. It was one of the ways they kept the inmates entertained in the evenings, you had to pay extra of course. This was by Colour Me Beautiful.
I was told that I was a Spring & used their colour swatch for years, although being of a rather "oh, that'll do disposition" I wasn't too careful about the shades, just sticking more or less to the colours.
I have recently had my colours re-done by House of Colour & am a Paint Box Spring, which is about as bright as you can get I think. So basically, I think the colours stay with you all your life & at 68 I still have very little grey hair but think that skin tone & eye colour may have faded a bit, it was all much as expected.
Being "in my prime" in the 60s/early 70s I was very much wedded still, to emphasis on the eyes not lips & must say that reversing that has made a big difference.
If you want to dip your toe in the water I very much recommend the blog post on the Kettlewell site.
