While i have a vague idea of what suits me I know I could be making more of myself and wondered if anyone had found these consultations useful. Or not?! Be worth it if it'll prevent me from buying duds I don't wear - or do wear but look terrible in!

I had mine done many years ago and it was really surprising. Some things I knew but there are some colours on my chart I would never have thought of wearing but once I tried I found that they did suit me.

The only downside was I had a lot of one particular colour in my wardrobe and it turns out it was a real no no for my colouring LOL

But funnily enough I was thinking of getting it done again now I have -aged- matured smile

I think it was worthwhile.

Damn cant get the hang of the strikethrough

I'd love to have a colour consultation done. I used to know a lady who did them, sadly, no longer with us. Do you know where they are available?

loopylou Thu 04-Feb-16 09:38:11

I'd love one but fear that the results would indicate that nothing in my wardrobe is appropriate!

Yes I went with three friends it was an eye opener for me and very useful.

It's all about the colours whch flatter your skin tones all four of us were different.
The woman doing this put a white cloth around our neck to highlight our skin tones.
It's worth doing if you can afford it and very good to go with a small group. You could then see what was happening with your friends.

One of our members is having hers done soon and we asked her to report back. I am looking forward to it, this was on a thread a few weeks ago.

I wouldn't want it, if told red and white were right for me I wouldn't wear these colours, really dislike them. I love blue and green , wouldn't stop wearing these colours

I had it done years ago with a friend. It was very interesting and she steered us more into what tone of colour rather than saying anything was a no go ie blue toned shades of red rather than orange toned. We came away with a holder of colour swatches that you can take shopping with you.

If it turns out most of your wardrobe is the wrong shade - scarves! A scarf in a shade/colour that suits close to your face can make all the difference!

That said, I've not referred to it for years, but do have some sort of idea what to avoid.

I had mine done years ago as part of a redundancy package to help me find another job. There were four in the group and that helped because you could see the effects on the others as well as yourself.

It wasn't just colours, it was textures, patterns and styles too. Our body shape was identified with suggestions and tips for choosing clothes.

We got a great little wallet that is about the size of a credit card wallet. It contains fabric swatches of all the recommended colours, textures and patterns. I carried it in my bag for years.

The only problem was black and navy were not recommended for me and my business wardrobe was based around them! I did use the advice though because overall I thought it was excellent.

I still use the basics from that consultation and dread to think what the consultant was charging. I'd get a recommendation from someone who has had their colours done and you admire their style. It needs a good eye.

I know a lot of companies use the scarf approach, but personally I think this can look a bit obvious if you don't learn to do it well.

I'm going on Tuesday!! Eeeekkk! And I have to take my make up - could be very traumatic!

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 04-Feb-16 13:17:43

That's exciting kitty and lovely to hear that you're doing something nice for yourself too. smile

This is the colour swatch side of my wallet. The other side shows the advice for me about textures and patterns, etc.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this kitty ?

kittylester Thu 04-Feb-16 13:43:00

Thank you Wilma, it was a present from my DH for our last anniversary. I assume he thinks I've looked like a bag lady for long enough!

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 04-Feb-16 14:53:22

LOL! You know why he chose this for you. wink Can't wait to hear how you get on.

I'm a colour and image consultant.
Having your colours done is about brining out the best you. "Being the best version of you"
I have 3 daughters and 11 GC
So for me I think knowing what's going to help you look at you very best is something to have at hand for when needed. When babysitting for 4+ GC at a time.... it's simply about being comfortable. However when going out to lunch, seeing friends or business I know I can make the most of what I have.
As we age our colours of our skin, hair and eyes soften, so colours we've worn for years may not be right now.
Also you can wear any colour it about finding the correct tone of colour that's right for you.
I hope this helps.

Hope you enjoy it kitty, I'd have a problem as I don't do make up shock

I had this done by an Amway rep at a party at my home some years ago.The lady used a lamp and a white cloth round the neck, then various coloured scarves to show the effect on the skin-it was quite an eye-opener as to just how much difference each colour made. You were graded as Spring,Summer,Autumn and Winter and could then buy a swatch of colours for your season.Mine was summer and there were colours I already wore and some that I wouldn't have thought of trying. Also discovered that purple,my favourite colour, did not suit me.
I found it very useful and would definitely have it done again now that I am older.

My mum had her colours done away back in the early 80s when colour me beautiful first came out and there was only 4 options (spring, summer, autumn and winter). I then had mine done and was told I was a summer and that those where the colours you had all your life.

I then was at a girls day out thing and they lassie asked if anyone had had their colours done so said I was a summer...

"Oh no dear, you're definitely NOT a summer"

Had them reanalysed and I'm actually a clear spring and suddenly they said "actually, your colours CAN change"

So I take it with a pince of salt to be honest. I still wear colours I like that aren't on the clear spring booklet - maybe not near my face.

It's a fun experience but don't let it dictate what you always wear.

My daughter had hers done, and it was very good as what she was recommended was spot on and suited her immensely. When we go clothes shopping she always takes the chart with her that they give you so she can see what advice they gave. It even works for jewellery costume or other. She thought it was worth every penny.

Cosafina Fri 05-Feb-16 11:44:53

But where do you go to get them done? When I googled just now, do I just want my colours or do I want style and make up as well? (I don't really wear make up, but I'd love to know how to bring out my eyes a bit more)

How do you know if the consultant is any good?

maggiemay01 Fri 05-Feb-16 12:12:38

never had my colours done....... bit of a coward....

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 05-Feb-16 12:24:20

I agree Cosafina. I'd like to have mine done again, but don't know anyone else who has had their colours done to get a recommendation. It's not cheap and I can't afford to pay more than once if I didn't have confidence in the what the consultant says.

Perhaps GN HQ would letus have a thread where we can ask for recommendations from other GNs, not just for this, but for anything?

AshleyM Fri 05-Feb-16 13:22:03

I've had it done and it's really useful for getting the right shade of colours that suit you, for instance I can do a postbox red, burgundy or bluey red, but not a pink or orange based red. It's also good to bear in mind that as you age your colouring changes so an updated session would help.

A decent consultant would also be able to discuss make up colours, hair colour if you wanted to change yours.

It's not a disaster if you have clothes that find out aren't a good colour for you, have a swapping party with friends!!
