I hate my legs!

Does anyone out there have legs like mine? For years I have only worn trousers as although I am not overweight, I hate my legs! I must have had a funny five minutes as I have bought a dress and need to show the world that I actually do have legs....

Can anyone recommend some tights that are flattering? I dont want "old lady" thick onessmile but maybe some support ones. In M&S they seem to be 7 or 10 denier "look" which are unlikely to cover the red blotches and vein on my heavy pins!

If all else fails I could resort to leg makeup, return the dress - can anyone help?

I hate my teeth! All sorts of braces and treatment did nothing to straighten them, but honestly in the scheme of things it doesn't really matter, and my life would still be the same. Just say sod it - life's too short especially when you get to our age - who cares.

Am in the "smooth as a babies bum" camp, well moisturised, and the tanning cream you add to every couple of days until desired "brownness" I have veiny legs, urgh, and find this is my best solution. Tights never look right for me apart from black opaques but maybe your dress won't look right with them, hope you find something that makes you feel super gorgeoussmile

I have had varicose veins since I was 13 - my legs look like a relief map of England - and wear shorts if I want to and sod it if anyone else objects/stares etc. It is their problem not mine. I do wear tights on the odd occasion I wear a dress but just normal ones. My legs may not be the best looking legs around but by golly they are useful !

Just been reading the news about Brussels and the many people with traumatic amputations. All a case of perspective .......

Nannylovesshopping Wed 23-Mar-16 12:39:02

izabella all of us are appalled at the atrocities in the world around us, so pennyjw has probably fervently counted all her blessings, as indeed I have, so doesn't want a bloody lecture on what sort of tights to buy. This is a site for lots of different topics including light heartened discussions as well as worldwide tragedies

My legs were always my best asset along with my hair. Both have completely lost the plot.....hey ho.

Synonymous Wed 23-Mar-16 13:00:11

Penny you may well be the only one who really notices your legs. Very often we only notice them ourselves because we are looking hard enough to see because they are our legs. As twiggy says they are jolly useful too! grin

Some of us have skinny legs because we can't use them much so if yours are usable then just go for it and think how good that is. smile

I am also a fan of tanning cream to give a sunkissed look to legs and build it up gradually when the warmer weather comes,I spend most of my time in jeans/jeggings normally but this year I have invested in a few new maxi dresses they hide a multitude of sins.

Izabella Wed 23-Mar-16 13:11:36

Not sure I understand the comment re tights.

Synonymous Wed 23-Mar-16 13:29:17

Izabella the op asked for recommendations for flattering tights. smile

Synonymous Wed 23-Mar-16 13:34:59

Thinking about tights I remember when I was much younger that you could get either 15 or 30 denier in the main and those don't seem to be available nowadays. Perhaps it is because they lasted so long and the throw away society has now affected tights too. Now the 30 denier ones did cover well and would be appreciated by many I am sure so I wonder where or if you could get those now.

Thingmajig Wed 23-Mar-16 13:36:52

I used to buy medium support tights from Asda back in the days of my work uniform being a dress. I found them great and they just looked like normal tights.
Could you wear grey or black tights with your dress???
I also like the self-tanning cream and use it before baring the legs for summer. grin

I have horrible thick ankles and it doesn't get any better further up sad. My sister looked at me recently and said 'So we both inherited mum's legs'. So it has to be something REALLY important to get me into anything other than trousers or a long skirt

Legs! You should have my legs!! I have HUGE fat legs almost no ankles. Yes I am a bit overweight but the top half is a nicely proportioned size 14 and the bottom 18! I love wearing dresses and prefer mid calf but not too many of those around now. As to the question of tights I find that matt tights in a pale grey 15 denier are the best camouflage. Keep legs smooth and hair free by whatever method you prefer, reducing puffiness by sitting with legs higher than hips whenever possible, getting a light tan again by whatever method you prefer all help to make you feel a bit better about your legs. Neutral shoes with a mid heel also make legs look better and longer. Does that help? smile

Pennyjw I fully understand, I also have the veins and blotches and can't imagine anything that would get me out of jeans/trousers/maxi hem lines.

I do what has been suggested here, false tan moisturiser building up to a bit of colour. This certainly helps my feet look prettier peeping out from under the maxi hem or the jeans, with toenails polished. It doesn't really cover the veins and blemishes on the legs but it helps.

However, for a shorter hem line.... I'd suggest going first of all with the build up of false tan as an everyday base. Then when wearing the dress I'd try the spray on leg make up.

This does cover quite well and is meant to be used as bare legs so I reckon it would cover blemishes enough to disguise under tights.

I'm sick of wearing restrictive feeling jeans on holiday and was planning to go mad and try dresses - haven't worn one for years! Any recommendations for best self tan products for legs? Do those spray tans last for 2 weeks if I went for one of those? I feel such a beginner at all this!

Elrel Wed 23-Mar-16 15:47:28

Thrilled with sale rail M&S jeggings, stretchy, warm, and comfy. Then I saw myself reflected in a shop window. Arthritis has so altered the shape of one leg as to make me a cartoon jockey. ??

Jane10 Wed 23-Mar-16 16:03:55

Oh Elrel !

Spray tans are great for improving the look of legs , I find I get the best results from exfoliating and a few days of intense moisturising before tanning .
BTW , I hate my legs too .

Dear all, you are lovely and thanks for your replies. Isn't it fascinating to have somewhere to communicate with intelligent, articulate women with such a wide range of experience? Grans definitely rule....

Although I agree with the sentiment itself, I do struggle to "say sod it and life is too short" but it is probably also too short to let these things really get to you. Actually, just remembering others have the same issue is very reassuring!

BadenKate - I am the only one of three sisters who inherited my mum's legs!!

SO (my DH gets really annoyed when people start a sentence with "so"...) Sally Hanson spray tan here I come (thanks Coolgran65) - lots of moisturizer - bags of confidence smile.

KatyK Thu 24-Mar-16 16:21:41

My legs have always been my best asset. When I met DH he said he would describe me to his mates as 'the one with the legs' They are still OK - unfortunately the rest of me is not! My DD used to say to me 'how come you've got those legs and I seem to have the legs of a rugby player?' grin
