what to wear at 60 plus?

I am about to turn 60. It feels like a landmark. My 50s sort of came and went without me really noticing but I do feel different now. Not old I hasten to add. Maybe more grown up. Anyway I think perhaps it's time to take stock and revise my style a bit. I've pretty much carried on wearing the things I have always done but suddenly feel a bit mutton dressed as lamb. I'd like to update my look to reflect my age but without going old or frumpy. Where do I start? (Did I mention I hate shopping?!)

Can someone link to one of these floral "no no" skirts I'm best avoiding please? Just so I can check that the long skirts I own aren't the same! I think they were described upthread as typically worn by some women once they reach a certain age... I'm curious grin

I like sparkles. Always will.

Today I've got on a Marks and Sparks dress for the first time, that I bought last summer, just before the "summer" disappeared completely. It is blue with white broderie anglais. It could be Per Una. I can't see the label as I am wearing it.

Short sleeves as my arms are still quite presentable.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 17:46:26

I am 74. In caseyou don't know. smile

I think I have reached that time of life when you become quite proud of your age, instead of trying to hide it.

Rambling now.

I think when you get to our age you can wear exactly what you like and sod everyone.

bookdreamer Sun 08-May-16 18:15:33

I think so too whitewave

I sent for this dress from M and S yesterday. It won't be that short on me as it looks on the lanky model!

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 19:19:33

I like the colour. That would suit me, as long as it wasn't above the knee.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 19:23:59

God no! It had better not be above the knee! grin

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 19:27:43

I've had a look on the M&S site. You are clever I wouldn't have thought of it as it looks too short but she is 5 11 I am about 5 6

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 19:27:53

The model is 5'11! I'm 5'2.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 19:29:03

Why do they use such tall models? confused

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 19:44:22

Oh! I'm gonna have Marks and Sparks' dresses in my adverts for ages now. hmm

TriciaF Sun 08-May-16 20:01:07

Jings - I can just imagine you wearing it!
Plus rings on your fingers and bells on you toes wink

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 20:03:19

I'm trying to think which nursery rhyme that comes from.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 20:05:23

I would like to know as well, wildrose.
At the moment I have a mind to throw almost all my clothes out. However, I can never find anything I like in the shops these days to replace them.

GandTea Sun 08-May-16 20:14:01

I still wear what I wore 10 or more years ago, because it is what is in my wardrobe. No style icon here.

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 20:22:41

And me grandtee I put on a pair of sandals last summer but they were so old the glue stopped working and everything fell apart- very inconvenient.

whitewave Sun 08-May-16 20:24:27

I have stuff that I know it is at least 20 years old because I know what I bought it for. Pays to buy qualitygrin

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 08-May-16 20:24:56

What is a cockhorse?

Is it rude? confused

Elegran Sun 08-May-16 20:27:57

Yes.
