Makeup EVERY day???

I am either mad, very vain or a creature of habit.
I do a full make up every day. I just don't feel right without it- it's me!.
It suddenly occurred to me this morning as I was plastering on the slap that I was not going to see anyone until DH comes home tonight. (As some of you may have seen from others posts I am on crutches following a stupid accident so I am housebound.)
I still put the lot on.Really- why?? I do it every day. On the very odd occasions ( Noro virus!) that I didn't,I just felt wrong. I used to walk the dog first thing in morning & went out ( often in dark) without makeup but came straight home, showered & on it went.
The only time I don't is on holiday when it is going to be a day on beach & then I still use mascara & brow pencil & the full load goes on for the evening.
Do many others do this? - I rather hope so or I'm obviously very odd.

I cleanse and moisturise my skin every day, and I aim for a moisturiser with sunblock (I chop and change brands, current favourite is Olay Featherweight day cream). When I go out I brush my hair and put on a slick of lipstick. I have naturally thick eyebrows which I dye at home from time to time - just recently I left the dye on too long and looked like Alistair Darling.

On the one day a week when I work "uptown" I use mascara (never waterproof) and powder blusher.

nankate I was also taught to look after my skin by my mother, she was religious about it and still had beautiful skin when she died at age 71.

How odd NanSue you have discovered another nightly cleanser and moisturiser in me.

You may be a mere flibertygibet at 61 with smooth clear skin, but I am fast approaching 6 score years and ten and regularly get compliments on my complexion smile. I must give credit to my late mum who looked lovely till the end.

Keep cleansing.

Always wear make up when I leave the house but not plastered on . If I am staying in all day I don't bother so my skin can have a rest . I just hope that no one will call ! Indiana Clinique mascara is hypoallergenic so shouldn`t irritate your eyes .

aquagran Tue 10-May-16 16:08:59

Ok, will do!

nelly Tue 10-May-16 12:42:20

@ Aquagran oh absolutely - I shall be getting mine again for my hols! Just try and have a look at examples of lashes the salon has done for other customers on their website. And I specifically ask for a natural look when I go in to have them done.

NanSue Tue 10-May-16 11:54:51

NanKate The very same here! I could have written your post myself! Except I am 61 this year.

The removing of my makeup at night is part of my winding down. I use one eye makeup remover pad and then lovely (well I like the smell) Tea Tree facial wipe bought cheaply at Superdrug. I then put on moisturiser.

However in the morning I sometimes see that not all my foundation cream has been removed so I then wet my face apply Boots gel cleanser and very gently use their battery operated facial brush, they often have it on offer and I didn't pay a vast amount for it. The Clinique ones cost about £70 shock I think my Boots one was £15 and I have seen it cheaper. It works like a dream and my skin feels really clean. I use it about once every couple of weeks.

I think it is crucial to keep facial skin clean and moisturised.

aquagran Tue 10-May-16 11:14:27

Great, thanks. Will suit a two week holiday then?

nelly Tue 10-May-16 10:43:30

I've had them a couple of times in the past aquagran - I was very impressed. The ones I had looked natural and they stayed on for about 6-8 weeks or so, just falling out naturally over those weeks.

They can feel a bit funny to begin with when you sleep (I sleep on my front and I could feel them touching the pillow) but you soon get used to them. Well worth it in my opinion. They're not particularly cheap (I paid £50 and as I said they've lasted almost 2 months) but I like the freedom of not having to touch a drop of mascara during that time!

aquagran Tue 10-May-16 10:16:28

Juggernaut: tell me a bit about semi-permanent eyelash extensions. How semi-permanent? Can you have them removed? I've heard they take a lot of maintenance. I used to wear false eyelashes many years ago, and remember asking my husband all evening if I still had them both! Thanks in advance.

TerriBull Tue 10-May-16 09:27:01

I agree with the general thrust of the conversation, wear, or not wear, however much makeup you wish. I confess I got into makeup aged 13 or so and slapped it on with a heavy hand for a few years, false eyelashes and ones painted underneath with eyeliner sounds awful, but it was on trend at the time. I stopped wearing foundation a few years ago, but it was a staple in my make up bag for many years. Similarly eye shadow, I've stopped wearing that with the realisation that my eyes are not as big as they were once, similarly eye lashes, diminished sad they were once long and lush. I'm spending much more time on eyebrows, I covet two perfectly arched ones, but hard to achieve.

Reading through the thread, I'm wondering what BB cream is and it's purpose anyone? I'm clearly not up to date with some products

kittylester Tue 10-May-16 08:36:59

I think it's interesting to see who does wear makeup and who doesn't, absent. And i have been surprised by what some people have said.

M0nica Tue 10-May-16 08:29:52

Always moisteriser and almost always blusher and eyebrow pencil. On days when i am going out of the house I add foundation, eye shadow, mascara and powder.

It is to do with self-respect and not letting yourself go.

If it's what you like and it makes you feel good, what is the problem?

Yes, I wear make-up most days – and quite a lot of it. Nobody else's business.

kittylester Tue 10-May-16 07:30:36

Like lots of people on here I wear bb cream over moisturiser then a small amount of foundation with sun protection. I wear a little blusher (properly blended it shouldn't make you look like a doll!) and Lipstick. I sometimes wear concealer on my brow bone to lighter my eyes but, as I wear glasses, I don't wear eye makeup.

Deedaa Mon 09-May-16 22:26:16

I always wear a BB cream over my moisturiser, with a touch of blusher or I look really washed out. A light dust of powder to stop the shine and lipstick or gloss, depending what I'm wearing. I only wear eyeshadow and mascara if I'm going out in the evening or if I'm going to the doctor and want to impress him with how young and fit I look! I also make an effort if I'm going to the vet because the receptionist thinks I am glamorous and I don't want to disappoint her grin

UkeCan61 Mon 09-May-16 22:16:52

I always wear makeup but no eyeshadow or blusher - makes me look like a doll!
I wear a little foundation every day, and mascara and lippy when I go out or if I just want to brighten myself up a bit.
When I was a teenager my mum taught me how to put makeup on so it didn't look like a mask. She wore makeup till she died of cancer aged 70 and she had lovely skin with hardly any wrinkles. She said that good foundation protects your skin. She was beautiful.

I hardly wore makeup in my younger days. My skin has become reddish and uneven as I've got older so I do now, it evens out the colour. Just foundation and a bit of blusher, mascara gets all over my glasses so I don't bother with it unless I'm out somwhere special. At the weekend it's mostly just high factor tinted moisturiser in hot weather , an ordinary one in winter. I think well applied make up can make some women look better. I don't think (nor do the experts I've heared from) does skin any damage, quite the opposite. What does damage skin is not taking it off at night. I think I read somwhere that the most important thing we can do for our skin is high protection sun screen. Better than any of the expensive moisturisers, balms and serums on the market.

whitewave Mon 09-May-16 21:45:32

Yes my skin is all shades of red. It is odd as when I get up in the morning it is usually not bad -not brilliant but acceptable- but by now it is all blotchy and I often have tiny spots. I just love getting older - confused

Luckygirl Mon 09-May-16 21:40:00

If I tried to put eye make-up on I would poke my eye out! - I am very short-sighted indeed!

NanKate Mon 09-May-16 21:07:15

NanSue full slap every day, I look about 80 without makeup as my skin is different shades all mixed up. In makeup I look like what I am 69.

I read all of the makeup section in the paper and buy bits and pieces at Boots or Superdrug. I make a point of doing my eyebrows, IMO decent arched eyebrows can liven up a face.

I give myself a manicure most weeks too.

whitewave Mon 09-May-16 21:01:22

I use 50 factor as am very fair - a red/blond when young with, freckles.

janeainsworth Mon 09-May-16 20:52:03

Oops! Hadn't finished.
Meant to say I never go out without eyeliner and mascara as a minimum!

janeainsworth Mon 09-May-16 20:49:10

I agree about moisturising foundation being protective. I try to remember to put some on every day - the one I use is SPF 40.
I spend a lot of time outside since retiring and have just had to have a 'suspicious lesion' cut off my face - I don't want to develop any more.

NanSue Mon 09-May-16 20:41:17

Full slap everyday for me too, after a shower. It doesn't matter if I'm going out or staying in. So if you are odd, then so am I.smile As someone said "each to their own".
