Tights that are comfortable comfortable to wear

Which shop and or brand sells the most comfortable design in tights please? I'm tired of ending up with tights where the crotch is halfway to my knees despite buying a pair that should fit my size, or ladder at the slightest touch, or are short in the body section. I'm going to a wedding soon and I would like to be smart and comfortable. smile

All comments gratefully received.

There are no tights that are comfortable to wear! Horrid things. Trousers/jeans every time.

"Hold you in" tights do tend to stay up better, but unless you need the tummy support don't buy the heavy duty Dreadnought ones or you may find they cut in to und the waist creating a nasty muffin top.
You could risk "Hold ups" but they only ever seem to work when new and the consequences of them not holding up are dire sad

I used to wear BHS body free suspender tights at work: because they were crotchless they were easy to adjust to size and comfortable to wear.

I haven't worn tights for a long time as I rarely wear a dress or skirt nowadays. However, when I was wearing them I found some that were so comfortable, being stretchy enough to fit without the crutch coming halfway down my thighs. They are also ladder-resistant. They are a pricier than the usual, high-street tights but after buying my first pair locally, I managed to find some at a good price online. The name of these tights? Pretty Polly Curves smile.

Wolford are wonderful but be prepared - crossed my legs, caught my stiletto heel in them and 'Bobs your uncle' £32 ruined! Special occasion tights I think but they are a fabulous fit and look great on.

Wolford every time - I have two pairs of black Wolfords I wear in winter and I bought them years ago - can't say when but they are definitely more than five years old and still comfortable and nice looking. I don't wear Summer tights as I think they are ageing - Clarins tan that you mix with moisturiser is excellent and again lasts for ever, I bought a little bottle last year and have well over half left. Big gulp at purchasing such expensive things but almost always you get what you pay for.

I rarely wear tights these days, but cosyfeet do a range of 'comfortable' tights.

My size is petite and they do smaller sizes too. They're quite expensive, including delivery, but worth a look.

Good luck

I have always evens really good for tights

I have a drawer full of tights which I haven't worn for years. Tried a pair the other day and remembered why I haven't worn them for years. Trousers every time. Good luck with your search. There seem to be some good suggestions here.

Have you considered fake tan and no tights?

ElroodFan Mon 30-May-16 11:31:36

I find if you buy a pair that has a gusset they fit better

I wore Calvin Klein tights when I was working. They were not cheap but lasted well and were very comfortable.

There are some great suggestions on here, thanks all! (Who needs Which? when you have Gransnet?)

I just wouldn't feel right in the planned outfit in bare legs (and regrettably no amount of self-tan is going to hide a prominent varicose vein).

I found a 20% discount voucher for Wolford on fig leaves.com. Just enter TWENTY at check out.

Has anyone tried hold-up? I have bought some for an upcoming cruise to the baltics (so warm evenings are unlikely). I worry that they will just suddenly fall down to my ankles blush

rosesarered Mon 30-May-16 13:09:05

Only wear stockings. And even then, very seldom.

rosesarered Mon 30-May-16 13:09:47

Hold ups....arrrrgh, they Do fall down, avoid at all costs.

Grannyknot Mon 30-May-16 13:19:07

I've never had any joy with hold-ups. They make their way gradually down my legs and end up in a huddle around my ankles.

I tend to buy at M and S, but always go read the packet closely. I have trouble buying footsies, they always come up small and I feel at risk of them pinging off in all directions when I remove my shoes! Any suggestions? smile

I hate tights, never worn them much, but there is one way to stop tights sliding down : Wear pants over the tights, a la Superman. It is brilliant! It stops the crotch ending up at your knees, and it works with thin knickers as well;In case you feel you want one pair of pants under the tights and one pair on the top!

I don't wear trousers. I'm 5'10" and find that I too have the crotch between my knees, and was constantly pulling my tights up.
Until, that is, I discovered "Silkies". www.silkies.co.uk/ They have all sorts of tights - for fat people, for short people, for tall people. all sorts of types of support [both tummy and varicose veins], and they cost something like £5/6 per pair. They last for ever, unless they are caught on something, the thick ones last for two or three winters. I can't do without them.
They are only sold mail order and you can order no fewer than 4 pairs a month, but you can postpone the order for up to 6 months...
Good luck

Afraid I also buy Wolford in spite of the price. Sometimes the "b" grade are in TKMaxx. Don't wear them much - and mainly in winter, but I have two winter pairs I bought in 2000 (!) and they still fit well. I always hand wash though.
The pair I bought for a wedding were very fine and I am clumsy so they didn't have the opportunity to last!

Elisabeth68 Mon 30-May-16 19:34:54

Falke tights are great but similar price point to Wolford
But do last years!

Matthew1 Mon 30-May-16 19:59:05

I wear support tights for work (nurse) and only buy boots

CrazyDaisy Mon 30-May-16 20:32:54

Like olliesgran I wear a pair of light knickers over the top of tights to keep them up. It really does work on the very rare occasions that I feel I have to wear them.

Reading this thread brought back some memories from the 60's when I was about 13 years old.
It was my first visit to the Ideal Home Exhibition in London with my friend.
There was a salesman selling "Indestructible Tights".
I will never forget the way that he demonstrated this fact:
He put a table fork inside a leg of the tights, prongs against the nylon, and ran it right up the leg. He did this with the other one too.
Result?
No ladders, not even a snag. They looked like new.
My friend and I were mesmerised, we desperately wanted some, but they were too expensive for us, + the fact that we were still in long socks smile.
Does anyone else remember them ?
