So, here I am with a plastic bag on my head,......

Having warmed up about a third of a ramekin of olive oil and massaged it into my bonce. I applied it to dry hair (in both senses of the word) I have bunged a carrier bag on it , then wrapped it in a towel , as per the instructions. I look less than fabulous, but am trying to think of that French phrase, something about suffering to beautiful, not that it could be applied to me,but hopefully you will get my drift. Some of the other online things included mayonnaise, eggs, cucumber, honey and avocado! I want to sort my hair out, not make a damn salad! Just surprised that they didn't include couscous and quinoa.

Now, apparently, I'm supposed to sit like this for about 45 minutes shock but what I'm not sure about (and the website isn't clear either) is what happens next!

Do I just rinse, do I bung a bit of shampoo on before adding water ?

Please reply, otherwise I might be stuck like this all night!

I REALLY don't think so, the damn stuff is starting

grin

Jalima I've had scrambled egg hair too!

Vinegar made my hair dry. I want soft and shiny hair! grin

What are we like?!

I seem to recall something on Facebook where someone used a carrier bag when putting a treatment on her hair and when she took it off the dye from the bag had leeched onto her hair and she had the name of the supermarket in bright blue across the front of her hair!! Hope that didn't happen here

I remember when DD and friends put lemon juice on their hair and sat out in the sun, and put some on little DS's hair too, although he was blond anyway.
Their hair went an unbecoming shade of yellow.

Do we have phoenix with shining golden (champaign) locks??

Or are you sitting at your desk al la plastic bag pegged neatly to your head hmm

Jalima Tue 19-Jul-16 14:35:21

If I were you phoenix I would just stay indoors in case someone does mistake you for Boris

(although, perhaps not ..... I expect you are too slim and too pretty.)

I saw the thread title and knew straight away it had to be Phoenix grin

I hope it has worked well and your hair is soft and shiney today. No advice on how to wash it off, only when I did a similar thing (the oil not the bag) it took ages to get the grease out of my hair.

My hair is really dry normally, hard and straw like, but I find if I put too much conditioner on it then it becomes lank. I now use small amount of conditioner, dry a little with a towel, then rub in a small (note the word small Phoenix wink) amount of argan oil and wrap in a towel for 10 mins before blow drying. This makes it softer and feels much better.

Hope yours turns out ok. Slightly worried you haven't posted to tell us what happened. You haven't slipped off somewhere have you? grin

Most "hot oil treatments" can fade hair color,we stylists use this trick if a tint is too dark . It's best to use treatments that are made for color treated hair,if you want your tint to last.On the other hand if your hair color is too dark, some mayo, and a plastic bag will help remove some of the dye , I've saved a few friends a trip to the salon,or a more drastic solution(like harsh color removal applications).

Hello all!

Well, this morning I bunged some shampoo on, worked it through then washed and conditioned.

It is VERY slightly better, but still far from "lustrous"sad

I might pop in for a chat with my hairdresser tomorrow, see what she says.

She did warn me this might happen, but I was feeling a bit gung ho and ready for a new look.............

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 19-Jul-16 19:40:18

After all that phoenix sad Good idea about having a chat with your hairdresser because she knows your hair. I believe it's harder to make blonde hair look shiny, but hopefully she can help you get it looking in good condition. flowers

Why did I read the heading and think "That'll be Phoenix grin

Jalima Wed 20-Jul-16 00:14:44

Grovelling Jalima' grovelling lol

although if phoenix goes out with the bag on her head she will be OK, I have seen Boris in some situations but never with a polythene bag on his head grin

Bag lady .....

I use silver paper to cover my hair when I've got a hair pack on. (Haven't tried pure oil of any sort, just proprietary packs) The silver paper is more malleable and the warmth from your head improves the effect of the gunge you've put on it. I imagine it's less fiddly than cling film.

The plastic bag incident actually happened to my husband's aunt in the 1950's. She was bleaching her hair and lacking the necessary accessories wrapped her head in a grease proof bread wrapper. When she removed it she had 'Bilsland' (name of manufacturer) emblazoned across her hair backwards!

On ITV this morning tomato ketchup was combed through a poor models hair ........ she did look a trifle miffed , not sure what it was for , something to do with neutralising chlorine from the swimming pool

phoenix Wed 20-Jul-16 12:41:22

I have heard of ketchup being used to get rid of the smell of fox poo when dogs have rolled in it, perhaps the model on tv had some strange behavioural problems..........confused after all, you do get some very odd things on television these days, but usually late at night.

So I'm told by those in the know...........

Katek Wed 20-Jul-16 12:44:53

Tsk tsk Phoenix.....naughty girl!

Geraldine62 Wed 20-Jul-16 13:19:32

Ah Phoenix, who of us have not sat with a placcy bag on our heads at one time or another?

Reading through I just had to titter at all the sage advice and plethora of food stuffs that are highly recommended I now have a mental picture of a Gransnet Shampoo bottle with a list of ingredients that's making me hungry for Mediterraean food!

Stay away from the hair dyes for a while and your luscious locks will return and if you want to lighten up your Grey/blonde a squeeze of lemon juice and a touch of olive oil in equal parts whisked up together and applied to shampooed damp hair, 20 mins in the sunshine and conditioner rinsed off, will do the trick!

I'm about to do just that and a little gardening too a new kind of
Wash, trough, 'N GO!

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 20-Jul-16 13:25:38

The red in ketchup neutralises the green tinge in blonde hair from the chlorine in the swimming pool or too much bleach.

BTW I think Boris has had a haircut. It looked tidied in the photos yesterday with John Kerry. wink

I wish I'd known that years ago when my bleached blonde hair went a strange shade of green; it would have saved me dying it a strange kind of mahogany colour.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 20-Jul-16 22:43:20

Jalima The reason I know about it is because in my late teens/early 20s, my hairdresser went OTT with my blonde highlights and my hair ended up with a green tinge to it. Despite the fact I was paying for it myself, I was too young and scared to say anything, so just went home. My Mum wanted to march me back there, but after much pleading not to humiliate me (you know what youngsters are like grin), she rang her own hairdresser and arranged for me to see her the same day. Her hairdresser sorted me out and gained another client. She told me about the ketchup trick and warned me to wear a swimming cap as I used to swim 5 mornings a week back then. Now of course, you can get shampoo to use after swimming. hmm

A few years later I put henna on my hair and ended up looking like a baked bean - even my hairdresser couldn't do anything for me that time! grin

Jalima Wed 20-Jul-16 23:28:28

I used to bleach my hair blonde myself, can't remember the name of the stuff I used but it came in a bottle.

The henna effect was much nicer when I did it a few years later and it seemed to make my hair quite shiny and conditioned.

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 20-Jul-16 23:43:10

Oh my hair was in fabulous condition! grin

annodomini Wed 20-Jul-16 23:54:10

phoenix, the best idea you've had is to go and consult your hairdresser! And if she says, 'I told you so', just enjoy your slice of humble pie. grin
