Where do others find usitbale clothes that fit? I find it more and more difficult now. I am 62, size 16/18 with a bit of a tummy problem, and like natural fabrics as much as possible, and reasonbale prices now I am no longer working (nothing available after redundancy). Not ready for polyester beige elasticated waists yet which most seem to offer. Any good ideas anyone please, mail order or otherwise?

Bonmarche on the high street or internet.
Yours-the same but usually more fashionable.
Ambrose Wilson mail order but can be high priced.

Cotton Traders are good - I have some very smart jeans that in fact do have an elasticated waist - but they do not ruffle up round the middle - it is wide elastic and it just looks like a tidy wide waist. Here they are: www.cottontraders.com/pull-on-rib-waist-jeans/invt/ac14055

Luckygirl some of M&S trousers have a wide elasticated waistband as you describe. The only problem there is that they are getting thinner and thinner so I need to wear leggings under them in this weather.

GranJan60 look at Next on line for sales and another store I have found on line is Zulily. The clothes are permanently on sale but they are so different. I also like their kitchen ware, again, many bargains.

I'm 16/18 too and I love Adini clothes especially their tunics and dresses; easy to wear, washable, can be dressed up or down and in my view reasonably priced www.adinionline.co.uk/

I like some of the styles at Adini (the ones that skim over the tummy nicely), especially in the 50% sale now on www.adinionline.co.uk

I also found jeans I like at under half price in the Dash sale.

Snap goldengirl re Adini!

Luckygirl those Cotton Traders look nice.

How much nicer rib-waist sounds grin

Ive always nought the same trousers for years from jd williams as they fit well and are so comfy, the last lot I ordered were awful, the material was thin and rough, the sizing was way out. I emailed to complain and was told that they had changed suppliers! Now Im searching around for something similar.

Have a look at White Stuff their fabrics are forgiving without being dowdy also Boden which tends to be a bit more expensive but their jersey stretch wrap dresses are a boon. I would look in some shops you haven't been in. Don't just dismiss them as 'only for the young' you are still young. I have to say White Stuff as been a revelations for me lots of love tops, knits and some dresses and lovely colours- I haven't bought their trousers I'm still on Per Una stretchy jeans which fit my rounded derriere and short legs.

I like the Cottontraders trousers but find if you have a rounded rather than pert bottom like me, and you happen to stoop or crouch the trousers do not have a very generous crotch to back waistband material allowance and I end up with a rather big 'builders bum' showing which is not attractive blush

Thnaks everyone I will give these a try.

I am wider round the waist than in the past, but I still find that I can get clothes that fit in all the usual High Street shops. The ones I use most are Sainsbury, M & Co, East, New Look.

I'm size 16-18, bit of a tummy, big boobs. My shops are Cotton Traders - stretch jeans, tops; Next for tops ( size smaller than other shops fit!); and EWM (look for the more modern store rather than the classic tweeds type found in some towns) serves me very well, even in the office where my clothes were admired by the younger generation.

Internet, favourites are ASOS, Lagenlook, Adini. I too find Cotton Traders less generous around the crotch. Lands End aren't bad.

TK Maxx can be a great hunting ground. Patience is required as there's so much to sift through. But often a lovely quality item to be found at a reasonable price. Good luck.

I like sea salt, East and Adini but they are too expensive so I wait til the sales or buy on eBay, if you order online you can pick up in store so save postage too

www.everything5pounds.com. They do sizes up to 30. Some of it is not to my taste but you can find some nice looking items.

I'm a big fan of Cotton Traders and have bought some lovely tops from them. However, my waistline isn't proportionate with my hips and their jeans don't fit me very well. I've also bought some excellent tops from Bon Marché. I get emails from various companies such as East and Sea Salt and am very tempted by some of the latter's tunics and dresses, but might wait until I have dropped another dress size.grin

I used to love ordering the excellent quality petite clothes online from Country Casuals and had some great bargains in their sales. Sadly this is one of the companies that 'bit the dust' last year. Would love to know any other company now using their suppliers!

Damart is more modern that it sounds and has comfortable clothes that are fashionable. I also like New Look although it is aimed at younger people and many of their clothes aren't suitable but those that are, are very comfortable and reasonably priced.

I, too, like Sea Salt and East. They have very generous sales. I like Lands'End Starfish range for casual wear. They are easy fitting clothes on my apple style build. They too have generous offers from time to time. When I worked I loved Artigiano and Poetry but can no longer afford them or, indeed, need that many smart clothes now. I recently bought some cord jeggings from Damart which I sized up for so that the legs weren't too tight, and altered the elastic waist by simply tightening the elastic.
I endorse what others have said about Cotton Traders jeans with the flat stretchy waists.
None of us, I notice have mentioned Marks and Spencer. They should take note. They were my go-to place for clothes once.
I mourn CC and their sales. I really have to love it to pay full price for anything now.

Lupin Wed 04-Jan-17 11:36:52

Sorry M&S. They do get a mention.

goldengirl Wed 04-Jan-17 11:46:59

I also like Lands End and Cotton Traders and was very daring this year and bought a tunic/jumper from Joe Browns which I've worn a lot. I've also had the odd item from Sea Salt and White Stuff - the latter was a denim dress which I've worn and worn - dressed up and dressed down.
I just love looking through catalogues and online. I like Boden too for something special but they can be pricey so I pick my moment when there's special offers!!!
I also have found it difficult to buy shoes that fit straight away but have now discovered Reiker which are excellent and as I have to have the right shoe heightened they have a good base which allows this - though of course it adds to the price!
I'm afraid M&S doesn't feature these days

Getting the right size has become a real problem because there is no agreed standard. However if you want, and can afford or find secondhand, then clothes and shoes made in Germany are very good. It seems that the German individual just will not put up with sloppy sizing which is borne out in their shops. Fortunately we can buy many of their brands in the UK.
