I used a strong magnifying mirror this morning when I put on my makeup. To my horror I saw I had a long, at least 2 inches, hair growing just under my chin. shock I cannot imagine how I have missed it.

I am always tidying up DH's ears and now I will have to get him to reciprocate with my chin. Why did none of my family tell me ?

I associate whiskers with really old people. I hope at 70 I am not in that category yet.

hildajenniJ Mon 20-Feb-17 16:30:26

Nobody in my family mentions my whiskers either. I have a very long one that grows under my chin, and two tufts, (or they would be if I let them grow), on either side of my chin. I hate them, and have an ongoing battle against them with the tweezers.

Me too NanKate. I recently retuned from a trip to UK with a really long black hair protruding from my chin, my husband said he hadn't noticed it ! !
The hair on my head is thinning why then is hair sprouting elsewhere. ? Wish I had the long lustrous locks I see in the Holly Willoughby ads.

I have on on my chin, which I call my witch's hair. I realised I needed to do something about it again when DGS was stroking it last week!

I am always saying to DH 'why didn't you tell me I had a whisker?' He always says he didn't notice.

rosesarered Mon 20-Feb-17 17:35:52

DH's never notice anything ( it's in their job description) so I always check for any naughty hairs springing up in a magnifying mirror in a good light, and blast that sucker into oblivion the moment I spot it.grin Although they are fair hairs, they still have a wanted dead or alive poster out on them.

Ana Mon 20-Feb-17 17:41:19

That's the trouble with fair hairs, they can sneakily grow to a ridiculous length before you spot them!

Dark hairs would be so much easier to nip in the bud, so to speak...

kittylester Mon 20-Feb-17 17:43:30

I have one that is non existent until I get complacent and then, lo and behold, it's an inch long. To add insult to injury it's GREY!shock

grannylyn65 Mon 20-Feb-17 17:45:55

So true Ana ?

Treebee Mon 20-Feb-17 19:11:35

I've asked DD2 to be my bristle buddy and let me know if she spots any I've missed. Often wondered whether to mention to a friend about their chin hair, never have. How would you put it tactfully?

dahlia Mon 20-Feb-17 20:13:33

Treebee, I think you just have to come out and say it! Perhaps you could begin by describing your own problems with chin whiskers, and see if she reciprocates? Good luck!grin

kittylester Mon 20-Feb-17 20:28:43

I was wondering that too! A friend has two or three little clumps of very fine hairs and I never know whether to mention it or not. She only has sons and they wouldn't either notice or mention it. She does, however, have a dil who is a bit bossy and scarily glamorous so I'll perhaps leave it to her!

For several years I had a long black hair that would sprout from my cheek. How ever carefully I looked for it it was always about an inch long before I found it and yanked it out. It finally seems to have given up, but no doubt another one will spring up somewhere else!

I wish hairdressers would discreetly include a little tweeze around the neck and chin when they've finished cutting and are just tidying up. Some of these little nuisances are in very awkward positions where you can't get at them or you can't see them properly, because you create your own shadow.

ninathenana Tue 21-Feb-17 07:13:20

A good magnifying mirror and a table lamp with a bendy neck that you can twist into any position plus a good pair of tweezers are my best friends.

kittylester Tue 21-Feb-17 07:14:55

Our hairdresser sorts out DH'S eyebrows so that's a natural follow-on, Jacky.

Such a comfort to know I'm in good company with the blooming chin hairs. IPL has been useful for some of the dark monsters but I still harvest with my trusty magnifying mirror (the strongest I've bought from John Lewis) so it continues.

I have one like a phone cable it is so curly..........why? what are they for?

However, in life now, I have very little satisfaction but getting one with the tweezers is a triumph of sorts, not sure what else I can do for entertainment.

mernice Tue 21-Feb-17 10:32:30

I wouldn't be without my 'Wizzit' about £5 from Amazon.......amazing results and they don't grow again for ages and often not at all.

ChrisSnape Tue 21-Feb-17 10:34:11

Facial hair in my experience starts to appear around the menopause and continues. I get my eyelashes dyed every month and at the same time have 5 minutes electrolysis. It doesn't actually get rid of them once and for all but it certainly weakens them and a small session once a month keeps on top of the problem as different ones grow each time!

harrysgran Tue 21-Feb-17 10:34:19

I treat myself every 6 weeks to a lip and chin wax and use a whizzing in between I find its a bit of a confidence boost to know I'm whisker free?

sarahellenwhitney Tue 21-Feb-17 10:39:00

Nankate what is your definition of old age.My late mum at 91 had less grey hair than me when in my sixties. Her skin was as smooth as a baby's b---m.

Susieboxer Tue 21-Feb-17 11:07:31

I find a small electric shaver is my best friend tbh!!

Poly580 Tue 21-Feb-17 11:17:17

A lady I worked with had her hair cut and it was dreadful, longer on one side than the other. Whilst having lunch it looked like a hair was going in her mouth with her food. I leaned over and said "oh there is a hair" and pulled it out of her food.....it was about 3 inches long and still ATTACHED to her chin. I nearly died...We laughed for years about that. I know she had long hair but how could she have missed it. We were only in our 40's. Happy days!!

Neversaydie Tue 21-Feb-17 11:18:41

Yes threading ever 6 weeks or so and tweezing in between
Have had electrolysis in past to sort out the worst but I think another session is due
My daughters have promised to tidy me up regularly when I am decrepit and in a home
I do think daughterless women are more likely to let them sprout ....
