To cut or not to cut?

Your hair and your eyesight sound just like mine! My fringe used to hit the top of my specs then do it's own thing. At one state I had a sort of gutter running along the top of my specs!
I've now opted for a sort of sloping to one side fringe, layered as it makes it look a bit thicker, and use some sort of product on it - at the moment John Frieda it was on special offer because it seems to work. I also blow dry it using a small brush and curling the ends under.
On the subject of specs (Yeah, I know you weren't asking, but still ...), I'm also very short-sighted, minus 10 in one eye and minus 8 in the other, with astigmatism in both, so have a complicated prescription. I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to ditch my large specs and get smaller ones. Somehow the optician managed to get all that plus varifocals into a small space. I also invest in extra-thin lenses which are brilliant - cost a fortune, but worth it. Means my hair doesn't interfere with my specs and people don't believe that I'm really as blind as a bat with impossible fine, has a mind of its own hair.

PS Have you tried one of those 'meant to be weatherproof' hairsprays. I think Elnett is best.

Personally I think short hair looks better when you are past a certain age. I had long hair for many years but wouldn't go back to it. I suppose it depends on the shape of your face, but I think long hair can appear to drag your face down.

I find the best way to give my fine hair a good lift - I don't use any products - is to dry it largely by brushing it upside down. Just a bit of right-way-up at the end. Only takes a few mins.

I think it's called asymmetrical, at least that's what I call it as mine is sloping to one side.

However, that was not the intention; I cut it myself the other day.

The varifocal challenge for me is reading music. Everything else is fine.

I have thick bushy hair, the opposite of you I think. It is much easier to look after now it's grown just above my shoulders. The weight pulls it down a bit. I can wash and dry it, and it will last about 5 days.

When it was short, I had to wash it every day, or it looked awful. Flat on top, and a mess. Now I tie it back if going for a windy walk. I like feeling the swish of my hair when longer too.

I had about 6 inches cut off my hair last week - it gets to a certain length and then starts to break so it definitely needed doing. Unfortunately I've been ill since and have a huge crop of cold sores all round my mouth so have had no interest in trying to titivate it - a bag would be a better investment My lovely hairdresser just sent me a huge bouquet of flowers with a get well note - so unexpected and so thoughtful!

I'm with seacliff. Thicker hair is more manageable in a longer style. Keeping a short cut looking good on thick hair is harder work!

I virtually never wear my long hair loose. It is always tied up or plaited.

Just bumped into an old friend who has had her hair cut short - she hates it and can't wait for it to grow again!

I too need the ability to get up, brush and go. The answer for me is a really, really good hair cut. It sounds expensive but deduct products, perms, colour and it seems reasonable.

Listen to Ladygracie - Don't cut it off! Don't be fooled by the short haired photos - they take ages to arrange, a ton of "product" and need washing, drying and styling every day - then it rains and you look like your dad. Long hair is so easy! It doesn't need washing every day. Putting it up in a bobbly bundle however you like makes it curl without even deliberately curling it. I love long hair. But then my mother would not let me have my hair below my ears and was so rude about it that I didn't dare let it grow till after she died.

A bit of back combing at the crown gives a bit if height distracting from flat fringe

Fringes can also be feathered rather than heavy. ?

I'm thinking I might have mine cut now. It was short, blonde and spiky for years, until I saw someone I'd been at school with who said "You look exactly the same! Even the hair!" I decided to grow it, and grow it I have, but it looks ruddy awful these days.

Ah Cherry - backcombing - I remember backcombing - I will give it a go - and a feathered fringe. A very good wheeze as my fringe, in spite of being fine hair, is quite heavy.

luzdoh - that is just what I want to avoid - faffing around every morning! Too many other great things to be doing!
