Buying two of the same thing

I like remarkably little of what passes for “fashion”these days and find myself tempted to buy TWO of something I really like, which is really comfortable or flattering, (sometimes in a different colour, but not necessarily) so that when it wears out or gets too scruffy, I shall have a “spare” .
Does anybody else do this?

I always buy more than one item of identical clothing if I find something I like - though not special occasion clothes obviously. I've got four pairs of dark violet blue cords which I wear all the time, and quite a few jumpers in the same style but different colours. I don't know what I'll do when my troysers eventually fall apart!
Have also done this with shoes, bedlinen etc.

As Pamela says, and Sudoku and others have found, it's often not till a few months later that you realise what a good buy you have made. By which time the item is no longer available. I have plenty of things like that.

Any attempts to find another one have ended up proving a waste of money as the second buy is never as good as the first.

I do this all the time. I have a dozen T-shirts, all the same make and style but different colours. Four pairs of cords, ditto. Four fleece jackets ditto. Work dresses, plain jumpers, cardigans, casual coats.... I'm quite fussy about stuff so if I find something that works, I go for it!

If it comes from M&S and you like it, definitely buy more than one as they turn over stock so often it's not likely to be there the next week.

Wish I'd bought two or more of my favourite lipstick which Estee Lauder have seen fit to discontinue!

Yes I do it because sometimes you go back weeks later and its no longer available. We get more sensible with age!

GoldenAge Tue 06-Feb-18 12:31:18

Yes I often buy two of the same thing in different colours and like WilmaKnickersFit I recycle some of these so my pretty pointelle camisoles, short-sleeved, and long-sleeved tops live their lives as daywear before they become tired, and then reappear as bedwear. I love being able to look at them and remember how old some of them are!

Yes also buy in several colours of same thing.I notice this winter I seem to have worn the same outfit every day as I have been mainly in the house . Dont need to dress up for things the way we used to.

all the time. my basic wardrobe is two long tunics, one teal and one gray, same exact style, two shorter tops, actually shorter tunics blue and black. wear them with leggings or jeans, and I have three dresses of the same style in different prints for dress. I've got two pairs of ankle booties which are really comfortable in tan and black. my winter parka is the same one only a different color than the one I bought years ago. I still have it but use it at the animal shelter where I volunteer. I am quite small so when I find something that fits and looks well I tend to purchase it again.

I buy 2 of the same bikini bottoms but different sizes: a 12 for the beginning of the holiday and a 14 for the second week ?. Somehow the top always fits both weeks!

Wendiwoo Tue 06-Feb-18 13:28:02

I do wonder why so many of you folk suffer bunions. I had mine ‘done’ last year, no pain and up and running in 6 weeks. Now able to wear nice shoes instead of boats.

inishowen Tue 06-Feb-18 14:47:15

Yes, two tops from Bon Marche, different colours. I really like this shop for tops that are nice and roomy.

Yes Athough I do like a lot of today's clothing lines/trends, I'm not a fan of asymmetric hems or ripped jeans. I find a lot of Marks clothes are for what I call, the cruise crew (what used to be the blue rinse brigade)
I buy from Primark, some bits from M&S, coats from JL (a lovely Bruce Oldfield trench last year) Oasis, Zara, independents within House of Fraser, Joules and country-wear shops and two pencil skirts from VB. I love shoes and bought 3 pairs of ankle strap 4" heels recently in nude and black suede and greengage faux silk.

All my bras are identical in white, black or nude. I bought 2 cardigans the same as I could not choose which colour I preferred. If I find a dress that has has flattering fit I often buy 2 in different colours. I do it all the time. My children think it is funny but I don't care, comfort first.

starlily106 Tue 06-Feb-18 15:37:54

Yes, I have just bought 4 pairs of shoes, all the same style but different colours. And I have six cardigans for wearing at home, also in different colours

quizqueen Tue 06-Feb-18 15:43:57

If someone finds clothes or shoes which suit them and are comfortable then it makes sense to buy similar in different colours. Surely, that sort of behaviour can't be criticised on here!!!...unless Mr Trump advocates it, of course, and then everyone will think they can pour scorn on him!!!!!

stevej4491 Tue 06-Feb-18 16:04:19

Yes I'm guilty of that, whether it's shoes or clothes.I never go out looking for certain items, but if I do see something i like I buy it or two of the same. Years ago I had four pairs of Clarks shoes that I used to wear on a daily basis, one day i was out with my daughter, she said "mother look at you feet",I had a navy shoe on and a burgundy one, did I care? No.

kwest Tue 06-Feb-18 16:11:03

I certainly do this. I have finally given up wearing black clothes ( ageing effect ,too draining) and have switched to navy. I was actually looking at the Lands End site last night so that I can reproduce the perfect V neck T shirt ( I already have two of them in black) and I will buy three of them in navy. There is an offer on but it only saves £7.50 if you buy three and they are £20.00 each. I will try to hang on for a 'flash sale' when they will be cheaper.

MibsXX Tue 06-Feb-18 16:26:34

I often wish I had, by the time a piece of clothing or footwear has become a favourite, often it's no longer available to buy :-(

harrigran Tue 06-Feb-18 16:57:54

Yes, I have one wardrobe full of duplicate clothes and shoes.

deaneke Tue 06-Feb-18 17:35:15

Thanks

deaneke Tue 06-Feb-18 17:45:04

Hi, could you tell me what make walking boots! Having problems since I broke my ankle! You might have a few versions of this as it wasn't very clear if it had been sent! Aplogies if so!

Nanna58 Tue 06-Feb-18 17:55:09

Bought a pair of navy skinny trousers in Tesco ( F&F) yesterday for £12- amazing, lovely material and sooo comfortable. Going straight in on way to look after DGS tomorrow to buy another pair . Will kick myself if I don't ?

pollyperkins Tue 06-Feb-18 18:11:43

Wendywoo interested i your comment. Ive got bunions but Ive been told how painful the op is and how long it takes to get over it and how it's not always successful etc so Ive not had them done.

123kitty Tue 06-Feb-18 18:17:58
