I'm an absolute sucker for summer clothes. All the linen dresses, floaty tops and pretty sandals. I try not to buy things I don't need but so far I've bought a lovely H&M top, a pair of comfy (and cheap!) chinos from Marks, and this pretty dress from Boden.
Anyone else want to share any new summer purchases?

Spring wardrobe
(50 Posts)Hi there LyndaW.............me too,though I give linens a wide berth.
Having lost a ridiculous amount of weight I have had the fun and pleasure of getting myself one whole new complete wardrobe of clothes .......starting from undies upwards........whilst strangely enough even shoes had to be replaced!!
So far sketchers have done me proud.
Its been a delight with trousers 7/8 length,I won`t mention the colours as it might sound like bragging,a pet hate of mine! then tops,a cardie and I liked one waist length jacket so much, I had my arm twisted (heck as like!!!) to have another, but the piece de la resistance thus far has been a sand coloured trouser suit fitting my new svelte like figure like a glove!!
No dresses as yet but I am thinking of a floaty pair of culottes in a pretty floral pattern.
Prior to that I had bought new autumn clothing............only too find I had lost even further weight, so although I can just get away wearing them still, already they do rather hang as if on a bean pole!!!
Now what about the rest of me,I only wish they sold faces to match!
I have a new swimsuit, a dress, a beautiful jump suit and I need new good flip flops. That’s it I don’t need anything else but who knows. ?
Well done for losing weight Panache. You'll have to let me on to your secret!
Oh, what jumpsuit did you get tanith? Can you post a link? I've always been a bit wary of them - no idea why - but maybe this is the season to give it a go.
I love that Boden dress, LyndaW. However, I don't think I need much in the way of new summer gear. I'll probably exist in crops (from Cotton Traders), tee shirts and sneakers or sandals - unless I suddenly find myself going off on holiday!
LyndaW Coincidentally I was looking at the Boden dress this morning. I love it but was unsure about how see through it was and also the length. I am 5'3" and prefer knee length rather than above the knee. How does the length suit you? I probably should have emailed you privately but am pretty new so not sure how private messaging works. Meeting a friend tomorrow to go summer clothes shopping and lunch - so should be a lovely girlie day out with a glass of prosecco!!!!
Only size 8 and 10 left - unfortunately I have not got down to a size 10 yet (and not likely to either).
Lindylou51 sometimes they tell you the height of the model so that you can judge how long it may be on you.
I can't see that Boden have done that, but M&S do. But then again, there is nothing in M&S that appeals!
Just bought walking sandals ( you know the kind, a trainer like sole) to replace my old (25 years) ones!
They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
Don’t actually need anything else this Summer.Nevertheless, may well be tempted by something.
A new jacket maybe.
We have so few days that call for summery clothes that i tend not to buy much until the sales start, then i will buy one or two items to ring the changes and put them away for next year. During the recent hot spell i had great fun in opening the suitcase with last year's summer clothes as i had forgotten what most of them were. I tend if i am honest to buy more warm clothing for spring, autumn and winter wearing.
I buy long sleeved teeshirts in early spring before the appearance of summer teeshirts all with short sleeves.
I want a blazer substitute which suits a short apple with narrow sloping shoulders. Never have found such a garment and I look for it every summer.
Confession time
2 Boden dresses
2 White Stuff tops
I White Stuff skirt
1 White Stuff cardigan
I par Birkenstocks
3 M & S t shirts
1 M & S mules
I golf shirt
I visor (diamante trimmed)
Set of saucepans
Sound bar
Emma Bridgewater egg cups
all internet shopping as I am confined to barracks after foot op (hence having money to spend through not going out anywhwre). I hope to be released in the next few weeks then I can go proper shopping.
I have bought a shirt from Monsoon and a pair of shoes from M&S and that is that. Nothing else needed replacing.
I have just had a note that there is a dress code for a lunch I am going to on Sunday. 'Smart casual' whatever the heck that means. The lunch is in one of those concrete forts in the Solent and involves bucketing around in small boats to get there and a requirement to wear flat shoes. I was going to wear very dark navy jeans with loafers and a nice cotton sweater. I think I had better replace the sweater with a jacket. I am a sweater person not a jacket person and will probably never wear it again.
Not “confessing” too much, but
a few pairs of jeans and cotton trousers
quite a lot of Joules long sleeved Harbour (cotton) tops plus a cream gilet .
New white trainers, new Skechers for every day and dog walking and pale blue suede loafers (M&S) .
Oh and some oversized crepe shirts (indigo and cream) before EAST bit the dust.
And a new raincoat a month ago.
Ready for anything!
I gave up buying clothes when I retired but have snapped up a bargain skirt online. I only bought it as I thought I had sent all my summer skirts to the charity shop by mistake when I couldn't find the suitcase with them in in the loft. DH found them.
Despite the discovery of all the old skirts I have kept the new one because - why not?
I have read out many of the purchases mentioned on this thread to my DH to show him how cheap to run I am! Thanks ladies.
Loads of gym stuff from Sainsbury's TU. Love their clothes but live far from the nearest so all internet buys.
DH and I have joined after giving up smoking for over year we both got a big larger as visiting the fridge more often
This thread makes me smile somewhat against myself. Fact is I love my existing wardrobe and everything in it. However, as a result of weight loss, much of it is loose fit now. I've no plans to refill them or change them so currently moving buttons where possible etc. A slight downside of an upside.
I am a sucker for summer clothes too even though I know there is not likely to be much real 'summer' to wear them. I hate ironing so avoid linen.
I have bought a pretty cotton jersey dress from Adini, three light jumpers, a cardi and t-shirt from White Stuff, light grey chinos from Esprit, grey sandals from Clarks, a light Uniqlo jacket, a couple of cheery necklaces. Enough now - I must stop being tempted by discount offers!
I have bought so many new clothes in the past 6 months for various holidays, my poor wardrobes are creaking at the seams .... so I am exercising restraint ! And deleting all emails that relate to new clothes !!
No new buys as yet as I am still loosing weight and have another few Ilbs to go.
I will most likely buy some new linen crop trousers in time for my holidays I need a new white pair this year and may buy a cream pair not sure as yet, also a couple of floaty tops for evening wear.
I havce invested in new sketchers toe-post sandals which I found on sale in JLewis a few weeks ago.
I need to go through my summer clothing case to see what fits and what doesn't.
Goodness after reading all that I feel quite a skinflint! 3 t-shirt dresses from Asda tot £24 ??
Set of saucepans
Teetime I have a vision of you dressed as Saucepan Woman sitting under the Magic Faraway Tree
The new look for summer
I hope your foot is progressing nicely and you will soon be out and about.
Hi Lindylou51 Sorry, didn't see your post until now. I found it a good fit. I'm on the tall side and it hits me only just above the knee. The arms are the best bit though. Nice and floaty so cool in the summer but still cover up my wobbly upper arms!
Please spare a thought though for people who can't afford to buy loads of new clothes and are being bombarded by online advertising 'Now is the time to update your holiday wardrobe' when neither clothes or a holiday is affordable.
I take your point rocketstop but we already have a struggling retail trade in the U.K. and fewer people employed in the “fashion” business.
How does it help either you OR them if I give up buying clothes?
