I loved it, stylish, chic and very Megan, the tiara was beautiful, she wore it well. Standout outfit for me was Amal Clooney, what a stunning colour, thought Pippa looked gorgeous too, posh, not so much....... what did you all think?

Gossip face on!!

She’s very lovely but not a fan of the dress. It was incredibly bland for such a high profile wedding. I wonder if the rumours that the original dress design did not meet with the Queen’s approval have a sliver of truth to them. It would have been a great choice on a much older bride but not design led enough for the occasion. Also, she needed a last fitting much closer to the ceremony; couture Givenchy needed to fit better round the shoulders and neckline and the waist than that.

Good outfits spotted: Kitty Spencer, Priyanka Chopra, Serena Williams, Sarah Duchess of York, HRH Kate, Countess Spencer, Charlotte Riley, Carole Middleton

Questionable choices: Victoria Beckham, both the Yorks, Amal Clooney (stunning but too attention grabbing), Carey Mulligan (beautiful but too informal), Oprah (didn’t fit), Doria Ragland (too dowdy for mother of the bride)

Just no: Abigail Spencer, Gina Torres, Sabrina Dhowre, Cressida Bonas, Victoria Aitken

The dress fitted perfectly imho. I’m sure she has numerous fittings. It wasn’t supposed to be tight or revealing. A boat neck is supposed to stand out slightly from the body without gaping, which it did. It wasn’t frilly or fussy, thankfully, but the drama and occasion was from the back with the beautiful embroidered train., hardly bland. I loved the beautiful evening gown too, very elegant is such a gorgeous fabric. I have studied couture sewing so am interested in how clothes are constructed.

I thought the dress was lovely- very simple and very elegant. Perfect for a high profile wedding.

I am hopeless at ‘celebrities’, don’t know who most of them are. I do recognise Elton John because there aren’t many short fat celebrities! I though the Clooney woman (never heard of her) looked as if she was thinking of absolutely nothing but how she looked.

Meghan looked lovely, but I’d hoped she might wear something rather more original than a classic bridal outfit, and I don’t think a veil, however pretty, is acceptable in this day and age.

The Queen, Kate and other royals all looked fine, except for the York girls who don’t seem to look right in anything. They are a bit overweight, but that’s not the problem. I am jealous of the DofE, who at nearly 97 and six weeks after a hip op walks better than I do!

Meghan’s mother was lovely, and I didn’t think she needed anyone with her. Women can do things alone these days! Prince Charles looked after her very kindly when necessary.

Would like to have seen more of the bridesmaids and pageboys. The boys’s outfits were versions of Harry’s, too military and dark and gloomy, I thought. The twin boys did their part most beautifully. Not easy to carry a long train up steps, I imagine.

The music - Elin Manahan Thomas did well in the lovely Handel piece at the start, fabulous trumpet playing in that too. The chapel choir was perfect as usual. I can’t stand gospel choirs, so the mute button was useful there.

The American preacher I found embarrassing, and hadn’t anyone given him a time limit? Oh dear.

All in all, it was fun and I enjoyed watching. I like Windsor (one of my sons lives near there), so it was lovely to see it looking at its best in the sunshine.

I thought it was beautiful and the still photographs are stunning.
I made the mistake of watching it on ITV and Schofield starting prattling over the cellist when he was playing and killed the atmosphere. I switched over but it was a shame that the commentary was so bad. I don't understand why they can't allow quiet moments.
It is nice to have someone both intelligent and compassionate in the royal family.

DameDiscoDiva Sun 20-May-18 10:36:05

Thought the dress was dull and it was too big in the waist as was her evening dress. The veil looked like a mosquito net. Frankly for someone who is purported to be so stylish I thought it all a little disappointing. Not a great advert for British fashion designers. Thought a lot of the guests looked better dressed. Still as they say, all brides are lovely......

Jaycee5 Sun 20-May-18 10:37:44

I agree about the dress. The kind of thing Audrey Hepburn used to wear.
Also about Beckham chewing gum. He always seems to do that.
I don't think that it could have been planned better, apart perhaps from giving the American pastor a time limit!

Jaycee5 Sun 20-May-18 10:38:28

My last comment was addressed to the OP not the comment above criticising the dress.

lizzypopbottle Sun 20-May-18 10:52:30

I didn't watch but caught up this morning with my electronic version of the newspaper. It was certainly a colourful occasion. The bride and groom looked ecstatically happy and I wish them great happiness. Marriage can be a hard road but they're starting with every advantage.

I wasn't particularly impressed with the wedding dress. I thought it was rather severe and I've never liked a boat neck. In one photo, the upper sleeves looked rather bulky too. A different, softer fabric might've been better. Still, (to paraphrase) you can't please all of the people....

Jaycee5 Sun 20-May-18 10:53:37

eazybee If you haven't watched it yet, there is a YouTube channel called Latest World News Updates which is showing the whole thing with no commentary at all and it is like a whole different show.
I got really annoyed with the chattering yesterday as well, they even talked over the service and the music. At one stage, a silly woman (don't know who) said 'well she is in the car with her mother, what do you think they are talking about?' At least no-one bothered to answer her.

sarahellenwhitney Sun 20-May-18 10:53:39

I loved the dress the veil etc and Meghan did look out of this world. .Her mother looked classy, loved the colour unlike many celebs who clearly chose their outfits in the dark. Why they had that ranting gospel guy I will never understand which even had Meghan giving a 'discreet' little grin. .Over all it was a success but doesn't the UK always manage to give the world something to talk about when these events come around , even the weather behaved itself.

Leah50 Sun 20-May-18 11:00:06

Serena Williams looked fabulous, my favourite outfit. I loved the simplicity of Meghan's dress & thought that veil with emblems of all the Commonwealth was inspired.

Blinko Sun 20-May-18 11:03:22

I thought the dress was stunning, also the veil and tiara. she looked wonderful, imo.

The page boys were a delight, though I can't say I noticed Prince George. Was he there? Charlotte was charming, she clearly knows how to do it even at such a young age.

Victoria Beckham looked sullen as usual. Does she have bad teeth, do you think? grin There were some fabulous and also some car crash outfits.

I agree that the American Pastor chap went on too long. Embarrassing, I thought. No wonder people were looking at their toes or the ceiling...

The music was sublime. Must admit I was expecting rather more 'zip' from the gospel choir, though.

Overall, an amazing event, even the weather was kind.

123coco Sun 20-May-18 11:11:31

No to OP about Pippa. I thought she was pallid abd ger whole outfit a bit frumpy. Disappointed in Amal ,not the dress, but the way she was walking down the cibbles like it was all about her on red carpet! Think on on the whole tge rest of royals looked the worst Princess Eugenie looke wholy underdressed. And why was the Queen so miserable. I didn’t see her smile once! And all the RF were looimg at their order if service instrad of the Bride and Groom, so rude. You would think Charles would want to look at his son when he was getting married!

homefarm Sun 20-May-18 11:12:02

Here, Here. Beautiful dress, simple, elegant, stylish - will stand the test of time. Not to many jewels - always a downer and I loved the veil.

sarahellenwhitney Sun 20-May-18 11:13:01

lizzypopbottle In view of the harsh comments Meghan has had over the months concerning her clothes, this time she excelled herself and pulled it off. Classic which suited her slim frame and the Queen Mary tiara.WOW.If there is such a thing as perfection then this was it..Would you have wanted her wearing the Fergie Duchess of York frills and flounces, or Princess Diana's volumes of 'uncontrollable and creases the ' Emmanuels 'created for her. ?

Yellowmellow Sun 20-May-18 11:13:31

I must be the only person that was totally underwhelmed by the dress'. Loved the veil and tiara. The York girls I thought looked very frumpy. Victoria Beckham should have stayed at home. I'm not sure what 'look' she is hoping to achieve, but just comes across as a sulky spoilt madam, and i thought the outfit was more fitting for a funeral. The highlight was Amal. What a fantastic dress, and super colour for her.

lizzypopbottle Sun 20-May-18 11:14:46

Yes, DDD my initial reaction when the bride emerged from the car was, "Oh...." (disappointed, unimpressed)

The page boys had been well drilled, by the looks of it. I had a longish train which was carried by my nephew. Forgetting he was only four years old, we stepped out rather smartly leaving the church and my headdress was nearly yanked off as he tried to keep up! Good job that didn't happen yesterday!

Gerispringer Sun 20-May-18 11:20:42

I wonder what some of the critics who didn’t like the dress for its simplicity would like to have seen? A frilly meringue or loads of beads and lace ? - not her style at all.
Heard a good comment - Victoria Beckham was perfectly dressed- for a funeral.

gigi1958 Sun 20-May-18 11:26:48

Seems to me imho the British are super nice!! I think the couple looked so in love and the wedding was beautiful mostly because of their love!
I loved Meghans outfit from head to toe!
May the beautiful couple live happily ever after!

hopeful1 Sun 20-May-18 11:33:42

Loved the wedding and clothes. The pastor got a bit carried away with himself but the looks on the royal faces were priceless when he got mid rant.

Sheilagh Sun 20-May-18 11:34:20

I enjoyed watching but what spoilt it for me was the non - existent hair styles , the majority of the ladies had very straggly hair.

DameDiscoDiva Sun 20-May-18 11:34:27

The original poster asked for opinions. Not everyone likes the same things. There are many choices in the way one dresses it neither has to be dull or over the top but if that is your thing, then so be it. The implied assertion that anyone who didn’t like the dress would prefer a “meringue” is simply wrong.

Welshwife Sun 20-May-18 11:36:40

The dress was a tad plain but probably better than going over the top with embellishments. The royal dress I still think was the nicest was Princess Margaret’s. I quite like a veil but it was a bit long -the tiara was lovely and not at all Disney looking as many do. The flowers were very simple too.
I thought that if the dress was any fighter it would have pulled when she moved. There is a photo which shows her moving and the dress is pulling a little around the bust. She probably went very simple purposely because had she gone extravagant she would have been criticised even more.

I thought Edward’s wife Sophie looked lovely and elegant but she always does.

Those cobbles inside the walls are a devil to walk on!
