Mostly about the dress

My younger daughter was divorced, her second marriage was in a church in Wiltshire, her second husband was also divorced. Both divorces there was no guilty party, the marriages had broken down.

Best wedding I have ever 'attended'. I have to disagree about the American pastor. What has been called a 'rant' I call passion!! And what he had to say was the perfect message for the world and for Meghan and Harry who have a life of service and love ahead of them. I found the smirks on the faces of some of the attendees to be irksome. So judgemental of this wonderful black pastor, so up themselves!!!! But the British (especially the Royals) have a reputation for having a broomstick up their proverbials!!! Good on you Meghan and Harry for having the courage to break that mould. Diana must be proud!!! And the cellist and gospel choir? Two of the highlights for me!!!!

The very thing I fear Nainai, Harry sees his view of his mother in Megan . I may be so wrong but I do think he has found a substitute for his mother and she has found a spot on the world stage. I am troubled for him.

And no doubt will now have angered many, sorry

I can’t see a single similarity between Meghan and Diana.

My thoughts on the wedding are:
The simplicity of the dress plus all the small children was well staged to make Meghan appear youthful.Not one adult attractive bridesmaid or matron of honour, very surprising seeing that she has many friends.?
Her Mother looked very isolated, and it appeared to me that it was her who reached out to Prince Charles ( who seemed a bit suprised.)
The Queen looked very put out and I didn’t see a single
smile, although Philip managed to look jolly at times.
The American Pastor started off well, talking of love, then went rapidly downhill with a rambling treatise on fire and technology and slavery.He became a caricature of a fire and brimstone US Pastor, which was a shame, after the boring way the service was conducted up to then by the Archbishop speaking like a robot.I should think Meghan and her Mother were embarrassed, as the guests were smiling at each other at times.
Harry looked genuinely overcome when he saw his bride and how she looked.Meghan gave a polished performance as you would expect.
Elton John looked ridiculous,Beatrice and Eugenie looked frumpy, the Beckhams looked liked the Beckhams.Camilla’s hat was too huge as was Amal Clooney’s.
That’s about it.

Queen looking cross? I've put up with endless suggestions of the cheer-up-it-may-never-happen kind all my life if I'm not grinning like an ape!

Great wedding mixing th cultures. As an American I thought the queen could have smiled a little bit she was probably having trouble picking her jaw up off the floor after the shock of the passionate pastor.
Personally I didn’t like the plain dress but her veil representing all the commonwealths with appliqués was beautiful. Felt sorry for Sarah F but I guess she made her bed. Her girls looked dowdy again. Loved the Earl of Spencer’s third wife’s outfit though.
It was nice to watch the television and not see something negative that is happening here but to see something that gave me a good feeling.

That's quite a negative view of the occasion lemongrove Yes some things were not perfect but I think on the whole it was a happy day for everyone and as Rhinestone says its good to see something cheerful for a change. I wish the couple every happiness.

I do agree about the strapless wedding dresses not being appropriate for church, although they have been almost universally worn it seems for a few years now. One of my friends who married in the seventies hit just the right note; she got married in December in a truly beautiful dress with the softest floating floor length skirt, and a little white velvet bolero. Come the reception, off came the bolero and she had a lower cut glamorous dress to show off her fantastic figure. She made it all herself too .....

Hope today will be a Windsor free day, but expect the cameras will be at the garden party tomorrow and it will all kick off again.

Am i the only one who thought the dress was "boring" it was too plain, maybe a reflection on her personality. I thought some of the guests outfits outshone the brides.

A deliberate choice to have a plain dress , only took a few seconds to look at it , no distraction from the wearer ?

my favourite Aunt wore a strapless dress and bolero combination in the late fifties.When I came across her wedding photos a few years ago when my mum died my daughter was surprised how modern it looked .
For thse complaining abut a boring dress be very grateful she didn't go for a see through corseted number popular in America now ,watch "Say Yes To The Dress" for examples ...lol

I totally agree with what you say.

I doubt very much she would have been allowed to wear such a dress anyways Paddyann, the Queen and others, would not have approved it!

Actually having watchex tge recording again (sorry to be so obssessed!) I did notice the queen smilin g both before and after the ceremony. I think now that she feels it's right to be solemn in churchnot that she disapproves of anything .

The exchanging of marriage vows is so beautiful , I have never seen a bride beam at the moment of taking her vows, until Saturday. I love to see a smiling bride walking out of church, they glow , didn’t we all ?

Well, I have to say that I thought the wedding was lovely. The bride looked radiant, Prince Harry looked smart and endearingly, quite emotional.
I think only children were chosen for bridesmaids was do to with Meghan having a lot of close, special friends and didn't want to choose one as maid of honour over another, rather than being worried they would upstage her.
The Queen can often look dour during formal parts of services but I really don't think it is because she is disapproving and more to do with the fact they are the formal parts. She can't win, really. If she was grinning ear to ear all the way through, some would criticise her for behaving inappropriately during the more serious parts of the ceremony.
Nothing is ever 100% perfect, is it, and to some eyes an outfit can look beautiful and to others it can look hideous. There were one or two outfits that I didn't like, but it would be unusual for any of us to think every single thing we see is lovely.

With regard to the sermon by the American bishop, well, it was in danger of becoming too long, but on the whole I liked it, and it certainly seemed to have the congregation enthralled!

I think the congregation were bemused rather than enthralled. However we all have our own take on things.
A very thin, dark haired American divorcee marrying into the Royal family again, ( Wallis Simpson) only this time, things have changed and now it’s allowed.Would William have been allowed to though, had he so wanted?

We'll never know, will we, lemongrove as his choice was Catherine. I'm pleased that Harry has married the person he
wanted to marry. As to her nationality, who cares? If we go back far enough in our royal history ( not so far back, really),
there are a variety of nationalities married into the family.

I thought the dress needed to be fairly plain so as not to detract from the veil and the train.

But I do think the headline should have been "Successful actress marries ex soldier!"
