All about the dress again, oh no!

I love Megan’s style but oh my goodness what has she got on at wedding in Lincolnshire (the bride looked fabulous) it looks as if possibly the shower curtain got wrapped around her and there wasn’t time to get it off, maybe she has been told to cover up more but ye gods, it swamps her, obviously she likes it because she is wearing it, but in my humble opinion a no no☹️

Seeing as it was a Spencer family wedding, I wonder why William and Kate weren't there?

I like the dress. The fabric looks lovely and floaty although (just glancing at the photo link) I think maybe it could have done with being a size smaller. Very pretty and feminine.

Maybe there was a "sorry no children" policy and they couldn't get a babysitter. wink

I agree that floaty dresses will make a nice change. Does anyone else remember the sudden change from years of wearing mini skirts to the new midi length in the early seventies?

All that fabric flapping around my calves made me think I was going out in my nightie. grin

IMHO, the dress was far from horrible, although it did look a bit like a kimono. It was a nice fresh print and she is of a stature to carry off a big print. We are used to seeing her in a fitted style and this one seemed out of character.
I wouldn't be embarrassed if she was my daughter!

I like it. I bet it felt lovely and swishy.

And as Lemongrove says, you could certainly stash away a few secret vol au vents in it - fill out the top a bit.

PCS criticising a dress is not the same as criticising the person wearing the dress.

She's a lovely young woman with a stunning figure, but this dress was too large, too billowy and flowery dresses may be the height of fashion but this dress swamped her - she is so slight that, on a windy day, she would be taking off in it. I hope she can get a refund from O de la R.

sorry PECS

I really dislike the term 'bitchy'. Why is it 'bitchy' to discuss a dress which was very different from everything else she has worn in public and which was not an unqualified success. And why shouldn't we discuss it anyway - theres plenty of serious threads on and other light ones. That's absolutely how it should be - a range for people to dip into and out of as they wish. Discussing the dress doesn't mean we don't care about serious matters as well. Im still really interested in clothes and fashion - my role model ( not that I could ever get close) is Diane in The Good Fight.

As it cost over £3000 I would have expected a better fit. However I did like the floatiness, and the pattern. Didnt think her fascinator was on correctly though...

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 11:05:48

If we don't tell her then no-one else will - only an honest granny (or two) can get away with it

gillybob Mon 18-Jun-18 11:08:31

I enjoy fashion too MaryEliza and can't see anything at all wrong with having an opinion on what someone in the media is wearing.

Personally I think whoever advises Teresa May on what to wear should be sacked as she always looks very frumpy. I am sure there are appropriate dresses and suits that she could wear that would more suit her height and stature.

Emm14 Mon 18-Jun-18 11:31:23

She looks absolutely terrible I do not like MM one bit - I think she is fake

humptydumpty Mon 18-Jun-18 11:37:46

Now that does sound bitchy..

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Jun-18 11:39:44

Have you met her Emm14?

lollee Mon 18-Jun-18 11:40:15

Monica, not criticising everything she wears, just this one dress. I commented on daily mail and made clear i like her other outfits, this was a one off disaster.

Anniebach Mon 18-Jun-18 11:46:05

Floating dresses and floating hair not a good look unless on a young person

Legs55 Mon 18-Jun-18 11:49:15

Perhaps if it had not been such a windy day then the dress would have floated which I'm sure it's meant to do.

I personally would NOT wear a dress like that, think overlarge tent/barrage balloon blush but I'm not a size 0 or whatever MM is. She is going to be criticized over her fashion choices, look how often Duchess of Cambridge was called "frumpy" & "middle-aged"hmm

Perhaps she was making sure she didn't "upstage" the Bridegrin

I always feel able to reject adviser's opinion if I don't agree. Is this not done in royal circles? I wouldn't know. She seems to be an intelligent young lady therefore she was presumably happy with her appearance. Good luck to her. She'll have a picture of things to come if anyone informs her of this thread.

maryeliza54 Mon 18-Jun-18 11:53:37

This thread is as nothing as opposed to what she's had elsewhere on social media - I guess she'd be delighted if all people criticised her for was her clothes.

HootyMcOwlface Mon 18-Jun-18 12:11:12

I was just looking at some pictures online and I quite liked the dress. I thought Harry had a look of a young Prince Charles about him in the photos too. And didn’t the bride look like her Aunty Diana!

Seakay Mon 18-Jun-18 12:25:00

whatever makes you think that your opinion is humble?

sarahellenwhitney Mon 18-Jun-18 12:39:33

From what we observed of 'the' wedding dress and later the Stella Mcarthy evening dress it appeared HRH was going to show the Royals a thing or to about style. So far, with the Trooping of the Colours, her outing with the Queen and now the Spencer wedding a bit of guidance would not go amiss. As for the hair, which she has to continually fiddle about with, that in itself is upfront for improvement.

GabriellaG Mon 18-Jun-18 12:50:16

Messy hair and fascinator/hat was far too small for the size of the dress which made the balance of the outfit all wrong.
The dress was FAR too voluminous and shapeless to boot.
It looked like a deflated hot-air balloon made out of a deconstructed California King sized duvet (I have one in a virtually identical patrern and colour)
Simply dreadful, and her hair on the Chester visit with the Queen was dreadful too. Windy day, hair everywhere. Tut-tut.
