What to wear with this skirt ?

I bought this skirt last year and have never worn it as I just can’t find a top to wear with it . I was hard to capture the exact colours but it is dark purple and bright orange . It’s a heavy brocade material so ideal for winter with thick tights but I would appreciate any advice on what kind and colour top to wear with it .

Love the skirt!!

Lovely skirt, good job you said purple, it looks black. However I would go for a plain cream top and quite delicate too. Skirt looks quite heavy material.

I second Kettlewell. They have a quiz on there, so that you can find the colours that suit you.

I think you should wear a white shirt

Dark grey?

I would only wear a plain black jumper with it - difficult to see the purple - it looks orange & black? If it definitely looks purple then you could pick that out or the orange. It would have to be a fairly long one for me too but then I like everything to cover my tum & bum grin

Another recommendation for Kettlewell .

The skirt is quite short ( not mini but above the knee) and the dark colour is definitely purple . Cream seems to go but I’m struggling finding something short enough to wear with it . It is quite a heavy tapestry/brocade .

If you get a different colour from the skirt, top and tights in the same colour will pull it together.

Brown top and matching opaque tights

I thought of this thread whilst doing the ironing just now when I ironed an apricot-coloured top. It's not a colour I would normally wear but it cheers me up when I do wear it. If that colour suits you, it would also be an alternative choice to go with the skirt

I would only choose the same colour (purple or orange) in the skirt. Where did you buy the skirt? I'd take the skirt back to the shop to see if they have a top in either of those colours. To add a different colour would look too busy and not streamlined IMHO!

I’ve had the skirt for over a year now Patsy bought online from Whitestuff I doubt they’ll still stock it . I’ve looked for something in the same (dark) purple but can’t find anything .

In the absence of a matching purple or orange, I'd take the good advise of jumper top and tights to match.
If, for example, you choose a black jumper, then black thick opaque tights with black shoes/ankle boots.

Choose a scarf or chunky necklace/bangles/earrings (not all at once) in the appropriate colours to break up the black of the jumper.

So many brilliant and very stylish ideas. Thank you all so much. I tried the skirt last night with a black cardi (just to see the colour as I don't have a black jumper....yet) and a cream jumper. They both looked great. I like the idea of picking the orange or purple back up in a scarf or necklace. Brilliant. Thank you all again.

I'll look out for you too Patsy wink

The skirt has such a strong pattern I'd go for a simple black top and black tights and try to find a necklace that picks out one or two of the dominant skirt colours. Maybe wooden beads or an op shop or market find? Top could be fine wool or lighter weight material as you tend to get hot. Aldi do great fine wool tops that are super cheap, you've just got to be quick when they are advertised. Don't spend time trying to match the skirt colours as you'll never get them exactly the same and near miss colour match efforts never look good.

I will suggest go for cream color or black color top.

Possibly a rust colour jumper?

In my suggestion, Pink or solid white colour crop top will looks good with a orange colour skirt especially when you are go for a night time event.

I see why it’s so hard to coordinate
