I need a complete overhaul

I look a complete mess.
I’ll start from the top...

I’m keeping my hair long into middle age as I’ve had short hair/a bob and neither suit me.

My hair is shoulder length but it is fine and straight, it is currently looking lank and lifeless.
As we’ve moved I recently changed hairdresser and she’s reluctant to cut a fringe into it (it had been a while since I had been to a hairdresser) as my hair is so fine.
The thing is that fringes really do suit me and without one my face looks too long and a fringe provides much needed body and shape.

Although I have about 8 grey hairs I think my hair needs a colour too. I’m naturally dark blonde, I don’t want any big change. I just want to look like a better version of me but I don’t know what to ask for.

I’d like to know how to do a good updo, I have enough hair for it but I’m just hopeless at hair.

My skin is good but I’d like fillers to give my cheekbones definition again and reduce my jowls but again, I don’t know what to ask for.

I’m short and a size 10/12 but I’ve lost sight of what suits me. I’m not ready for the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie look yet but my youthful style isn’t appropriate either.

My weight fluctuates by about a stone, a have a health problem (currently seeing consultants etc) which means I can’t do a formal diet. I can lose a stone in 2 weeks and I’m not huge to begin with. Similarly I can gain that same stone back and I hate it when I’m heavier. I’m an hourglass shape but my tummy looks disproportionate when I am larger (this never resolved itself after I had my children). There is so much I want to hide in clothing that I’m not sure what I’d accentuate!

Finally, I would like to exercise but my current health problems mean that some days I could run 3k and a day or two later I can barely climb the stairs. So losing weight through exercise isn’t a viable option either but I would like to exercise on my ‘good’ days.

My House of Colours season is soft summer if that helps.
I am drawn to plain, classic styles.

Can anyone please help me?

Try on that outfit you would never normally choose..it might surprise you..in a good way.! Step out of your comfort zone. Fine hair may be better in a short feathery or layered style to give it some movement! No point in saying you need a " complete overhaul" but sticking with what you have usually done!

PECS I take your point but over the years I’ve tried lots and lots of different short hairstyles and a few bobs. The bobs aren’t too bad on me, although long hair looks better. When it comes to short hair I’ve tried everything; from the 80s Human League style as a teen, through short crops, an truly hideous asymmetric thing and short but longer on top styles. They all look awful and make me feel awful so I’m not going to be repeating the experience anytime soon. One of the advantages of long hair is that I can easily tie it up out of the way when I need to. My hair grows really quickly so short hair needs to be cut every 3/4 weeks. It’s a no from me all the way round.

Hot maybe you just need to indulge yourself! On Friday I treated myself to a massage and facial and yesterday had my roots done so I feel less "end of winter" and more "Come on Spring!"

Once you've found a hairstyle and colour that suits you stick with it.
Dress to suit your shape. That's what I do. I look short and frumpy in midi or flared skirts, and only look good in straight knee-length skirts so that's what I wear.
If I ever wear beige, people ask me if I'm ill.
One thing I have found over the years is that as our skin and hair grow duller, fabrics with a sheen can help. I once wore a very shiny scarf and several people commented how nice I looked (but it was only a scarf that was different). Then again when I wore a satiny blouse I also received compliments. Shiny lipstick and shiny/satiny fabrics next to your face work wonders I've discovered.
