Would you wear dungarees?

I went into the Gap Outlet store near me today, they had mid blue denim dungarees at 50% off- so around £25. I tried them on and loved them - really comfy - great for gardening and general chores I thought, I pictured myself wearing them with a breton t shirt and white pumps. I ended up not buying them as I was unsure whether they were appropriate - I'm slim and fairly tall btw, so not a tweedledum look, - question is - can a gran wear denim dungarees or are they only suitable for toddlers?

If they "sparked joy" in you, @suzied go for it! Life's too short to worry about what people think. I still have two onesies that are super-comfy and I could care less what people think!

If they wash well wear them.

Millie22 Sun 24-Feb-19 12:10:51

No ..... but Mr Tumble looks good in them.

I have a couple of smart black onesies but need to wear the with incontinent pads, because I'm telling you , you need to fight them to the ground to get a wee1 Make sure the loo has a clean floor to drape them on. Lovely for comfort, though.

In this day and age wear what pleases YOU!

Sheilasue Sun 24-Feb-19 12:47:44

Nope definitely not.

Yes. I've worn dungarees all my life and still do. I currently have two pairs, one soft indigo denim and the other a bold floral on a grey background (linen). I made both pairs myself because I didn't often see dungarees in the shops, and not in my size (16) and I can tweak the fit to suit me. Dungarees are so comfortable to wear and I really don't care if people think I'm too old or not the 'right' shape for them.

If you fancy a pair of dungarees - get them!

If you feel good in them add them to your wardrobe, if in doubt leave them out.

Personally I would only wear them if I was six years old, and even then...…………………...probably not.

They have to almost taken right off to go to the toilet, so don't risk being in a hurry! A big NO from me. ???

I recently saw my GC's Mum in a denim pair. Very nice indeed. As a direct result of this article I'm going to search out what's on the market for myself. Rather fancy the idea as I regularly wear jeans anyway. Thanks OP.

I wouldn't wear dungarees now, I did so in the 1970s and felt a perfect frump in them, and they were annoying every time I needed to wee.

But if you like them and they suit you, why not?

DanniRae Sun 24-Feb-19 15:41:19

Definitely not with my size 18 bum!! shock

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sun 24-Feb-19 16:06:59

I wore a short dress which had a dungaree type bib to it iyswim when I was about twenty. I obviously loved it at the time but I probably didn't look too good in it with my figure. Can't think what came over me - except my excuse is that I was young and daft.
Unless I was taller and slimmer I wouldn't wear anything like it now. If you like it and can carry it off (lavatorial problems notwithstanding) I'd say buy it if you like it. My dear old mum used to say, 'it's worth it if you wear it.'

Cambia Sun 24-Feb-19 16:24:04

Lived in them when I was younger but not sure if I would wear them now. However if you like them and feel good in them then get them! Whatever makes you feel good and there are no rules now!

Jaycee5 Sun 24-Feb-19 16:35:20

I'd like to be able to wear them but I have the worst kind of figure for them short, tending to dumpiness and short wasted. They would emphasise every figure fault.

PatsyF Sun 24-Feb-19 16:37:08

Go for it.

Well if you like them and you look/feel nice in them
BUY THEM...we only live once!!

Carole28 Sun 24-Feb-19 17:02:04

If you like them wear them. The top and shoes sound just right. Don't garden in them - go out in them and have fun. Life is too short, don't worry what people think , anyway they will probably be thinking they wished they had the guts to wear them toosmile

gillyknits Sun 24-Feb-19 17:20:04

Not for me. I don’t fancy looking like an extra for Mama Mia!

Lazigirl Sun 24-Feb-19 17:37:11

I don't think I would wear dungarees, but wouldn't say never, it depends how they looked and I felt in them, and state of waterworks I suppose! The jumpsuit I ordered from M&S has arrived, and its the nicest thing I have ever seen in there. I absolutely love it but sadly it's not for me. It's way too long in body and leg. They always model their clothes on size 8, 5'11"", models, which I am not. I also struggled to get in and out of it as the buttons were fiddly, and would definitely have been disastrous in an urgent toilet situation. Oh dear another dream bites the dust.

Speldnan Sun 24-Feb-19 17:37:56

Why not, don’t think there should be any barriers to what you wear, though I don’t like very short skirts on many women unless they have perfect legs! Or are under 20!

Maggiemaybe Sun 24-Feb-19 17:57:14

if you wore a certain fashion the first time around then you’re too old to rock the look the second time when it’s back in fashion!
I guess I should ditch the purple panne velvet hot pants then. sad

annifrance Sun 24-Feb-19 18:02:35

Never did, never would. Would worry about getting them off in time for a wee!

Lazigirl Sun 24-Feb-19 18:03:51

Not many of us are the same size as they were in the hot pants era Maggie sad but if you are..........
