We're off to the Canaries in the summer and already I am worrying about what to wear. I am large (size 18, 5'8"), always wear trousers and always flat shoes/sandals. Any suggestions about how I can look reasonably stylish and not out of place wearing trousers?

Hang on. I object to your comment about only size 6 women getting away with their legs not rubbing together. IMO, that's a bit of an assumption.
I'm 5-7 and size 14/16 in trousers (depending on where I buy them) but I've never had problems with my legs 'rubbing together'/chafing due to not having a thigh gap even in skinnies or sports leggings whuch are really tight. My legs are blemish free...thanks.

I d buy linen. Its hot and creases far too much. Except for linen mix sweaters. I love those. Katyk I hope you wore your lovely dresses anyway. Its nice to wear dresses. Everyone is always in casual gear nowadays.

We go to Tenerife twice a year on average, usually Spring and Autumn. I only buy cotton clothing anyway to minimise over-heating even in the U.K. Most of my dresses have shearing elastic bodices and very floaty skirts. Hardly anyone seems to dress for dinner though last time there was a party of six who really went for it every evening! Elegant would be a long way down my list with comfort right at the top!

I used to holiday in the Canaries several times a year. I chose to self-cater to avoid having to dress up, although I don't think many people bother in hotels. I therefore spent every day dressed in an assortment of swimming costumes covered with an artfully folded or tied sarong. I felt perfectly comfortable dressed this way when walking or cycling from place to place or on the beach, even though I only wear trousers at home, and I am not slim by any means! Have a great holiday! sunshine

I usually tie around waist, under arms ,over one shoulder or as a halter. More ideas here, some too revealing for me.
