Anyone over 50 still have long hair?

Nearly always had mine long. Still below my shoulders. I dye it myself and would probably have it shorter if I let it go grey/white.
Last year, a regular workman in the area thought my DH (he's 64 and I'm 63) was my dad - I'm sure the long hair had something to do with it! A good enough reason to keep it fairly long for a wee while yet?

I had mine cut this week only to just above shoulder but its better for me as long hair doesnt suit me that well and next time Im going to get it abit shorter

I think long hair on older women can look very sophisticated if tied up in a bun. But NO pony tails please! Look in a hand mirror and get a view from the side. If hair is scraped back your profile can look awful. Short hair - or shortish - is really the way to go when older. It can knock years off you if cut well. And if short hair makes you feel less feminine then wear lovely earrings, lipstick, a silky scarf or something to brighten up your face.

I’m 56 and have just below shoulder length hair. I have had many many different styles and lengths over the years.
I find it easier to cope with when it’s longer so easy to put it up. I get very hot some times ( menopausal) so to have a cool neck is great. Sometimes I wash it and don’t dry it and put it straight up it keeps me cool and when you take it out it has a nice bouncy wave.

I am nearly 63, have below the shoulder length hair and have it coloured blonde every 7 weeks at the hairdressers. When I worked in an office in the UK I wore it down and straightened. Mostly now, it is scrunched up in a clip or in a plait. I love it .

Mine has been long for most of my 68 years and that means that I don't have to go to the hairdresser very often . I wear it up since DC started pulling it when they were babies and I have just let it go grey naturally. It is a lot thinner than it used to be though

My Mum never had her hair cut after she was about 60. She had always had thick wavy hair. In her later years twisted up into a 'bun' but still bouncy and curly at the front.
She lived to 87, her last years in a care home. I don't know how she managed with washing it because she'd had a stroke and definitely couldn't do it herself. The staff were very fond of her.

People say it looks 'dreadful' on some older women, but if those same ladies chopped it short (I think Mary Beard was mentioned), I really don't think it would improve her (I actually really like Ms Beard's look - she's not glamorous, and even if perfectly coiffed, wouldn't turn into a movie star, but she has her own look.)

Ah bgr it, have your hair however it pleases you.

I don't know who came up with all these 'rules' about what women should and should not do after 30, 40, 50 etc, but to hell with them.

Life is too short to live for other folks' opinions. Especially about hair.

I haven't had long hair since my early 20s and have gone up and down in between then and now! I've had a chin length bob for about 15 years and like that style and think it suits me.

I clearly remember my Grandma's next door neighbour who always wore her hair in a neat plaited coil/bun but who would occasionally be seen with the plait loose (if she came in first thing inthe morning, which she often did!) and it reached the small of her back!!

Still have long hair, I'm 74.

So easy to look after.

Why would anyone have problems with someone having long hair into old age.
I certainly don't concern myself about other hairstyles people have.
Life is for living do what makes you happy.

I'm in my fifties and it took me 50 years to grow my hair long! At first I was determined to hang on to it, but then I noticed it was getting very 'endy' and had no style. I went to the hairdressers and had quite a few inches cut off. It's still longish, but much more bouncy and easier to manage. I don't wear it up, as it doesn't suit me, but I did have it dyed back to its natural colour as I'm dark and it was very 'salt and pepper'. I think I will continue to keep it shoulder length, but get it cut regularly and perhaps go a little lighter in due course.

mine is short and spikey and dyed, it's alwys been in some form of short style as I have very fine babyfine hair which doesnt hold any other sort of style

Mine is extra short at the moment because I took the scissors to it myself. On one side only. So the hairdresser had to cut the lot shorter to blend it in.

Never mind. It will last me.
