I just don't like the current trend for beards or designer stubble on men of all ages. Unless very neatly clipped I find them ageing, scruffy and unclean-looking - even on George Clooney! What are your views?

Shudders !! Sat near a man with food hanging from his huge beard in a restaurant awhile back and try as I might I couldn't help seeing and looking at it,
I changed chairs with my husband so I couldn't see it!! And fortunately my husband had finished eating, he thought it funny .
Awkward and very Yuk!!

We’re the beardie family! Fil, dh and ds all have beards and full heads of hair - including my 91 year old father in law! I’ve only every seen dh without his beard once and I hated it. It’s a bit salt and pepper now, but so is his hair so he matches. Ds was sporting a really long, bushy, slightly auburn (?) beard until recently but has now trimmed it back. His boys hung baubles in it at Xmas!

I like a man with facial hair ?
Not so much hairy backs though....

DH grew a beard when DD was 3 years old but she refused to let him kiss or cuddle her with it - so he shaved it off!

My ex-husband had a beard when I met him in 1970, which was part of tge attraction, but he shaved it off some years later and refused to regrow it.
My second husband, found through Friends Reunited, has a beard and I love it! This photo is from our wedding day in 2015.

Some men suit them and others look dreadful. I don't like this fashion for "hipster type beards" which to me just look scruffy. The ones with various shades of grey and white with a sprinkling of original hair colour still in them do nothing for a man's appearance in my opinion. Much prefer to see men looking clean shaven.

My husband has always had a beard and I love it and can't imagine him without it. Its clean, its tidy and lovely. Also I love men with long hair and ponytails or a topknot but I am afraid he doesn't have enough hair for that. I think the big busy beards are ageing but the short well trimmed ones are great and young looking.

My husband had a moustache grown to hide a scar on his upper lip. My son has a well trimmed beard, now grey, which he grew when first married because his wife is older than him and he looked so young.

I don’t mind facial hair. My son has a beautiful beard although sometimes it’s a bit prickly. It’s the beards that are not much more than stubble that I dislike, such as a Jeremy Corbyn’s. I just don’t know why they bother to grow a pathetic beard that you can see the skin through.

I did a sponsored 'Brave the Shave' with my husband last year; my hair, his hair and beard. He thought he was safe in declaring he would only shave his 30 year beard off if we made over £1000 jointly. We made £1900, so off it came. Couldn't wait for him to grow it again - he looked so different it was like sleeping with a stranger! Never again!

never understood why men shave.we dont usually shave our heads ,or other ares, so why our faces?

Absolutely hate beards even on George Clooney.

My OH has had his beard since he was 17 ,he's 63 now.He did take it off once for a dare and I was most upset .When he was young he was a dead ringer for Cat Stevens as he's got older he's just as gorgeous with his beard and I'd hate him to shave it off.He is very image conscious loves to be well dressed and wears fabulous smellies, his beard is part of him .

Kim19 Tue 09-Apr-19 12:32:59

Not for me at all. No matter how clean they look, I have this sensation of creepy crawlies and old food therein. Yuk! Sad to say one son has recently adopted this fashion and, in my opinion, does nothing for him but covers up a rather pleasant visage. Of course, I haven't said anything and don't expect to be asked for my thoughts. I think sometimes there is a motivation of laziness in the shaving arena and this I can understand.

I have never seen my husband without a beard and moustache and we've been married almost 40 years....
It is getting a little thin now but he wouldn't be 'him' without it

DH has had a beard since he went to Uni. Started off as a neat Mandred Mann jazzy beard, nearly black. Now it’s a neatly trimmed grey job. We were talking to dark-bearded youngster the other, comparing beards, he was really surprised when I told him DH’s beard used to be as dark as his - don’t youngsters realise they will be grey one day!

Well Eglantine21 my old grandma always reckoned kissing a man without a moustache was like eating an egg without salt. However, I had a beard when Mrs. S first met me, grown initially to look more grown up when I was appointed foreman to some really old boys at the tender age of nineteen, shaved it off to copious tears when first born was born, (some obscure pseudo-Dr. Spock reckoned it was better if the child saw the beard grow over time so they got used to it) and, because I think she would divorce me if I ever did it again, my neat goatee is now quite grey, but well tended and much adored by both daughter and wife. My dad and both of our sons also have beards and one of the grandsons is starting to sprout too.

Personally I can’t stand beards or moustaches never have and when DH tried to grow one a few years after we married I quickly persuaded him to shave it off?

pen50 Tue 09-Apr-19 13:06:27

I loathe all facial hair on men. Scratchy, and it makes them look so much older. I'm very pleased that my partner shaves properly every morning.

Brigidsdaughter Tue 09-Apr-19 13:07:06

I love a good, well groomed, beard. DH and DS both have beards. It's essential to have good enough hair growth or they look pathetic.

seadragon Tue 09-Apr-19 13:21:13

I like a furry man myself - moustache especially, though, as the beard era coincided with a short period of pipe smoking...

Annaram1 Tue 09-Apr-19 13:31:36

Personally I like men with beards, and when I was only 20 my first fiancé had a beard and I loved kissing him.... Haven't seen him since we broke up, but if still alive his beard would be grey now. Teetime, watch out for your lovely husband!!!
He'd give George Clooney a run for his money!
But I do not like hairy chests or backs one bit.

Rosina Tue 09-Apr-19 13:46:43

teetime your husband looks really good with that beard - and I think the dog is most appealing too!
My son has grown a neat well trimmed beard and it suits him. However, I shudder at the 'Old Testament prophet' type of beard - they look revolting and I always fear bits of food might drop out. Ugh.

quizqueen Tue 09-Apr-19 14:21:41

I dislike facial hair and excess body hair and stubble especially- it brings me out in a rash so won't go near it. It's like kissing sand paper!

trendygran Tue 09-Apr-19 14:28:23

I can just about cope with a man’s beard if it is neat and trimmed but I hate bushy beards altogether. A few men I know or know of, look several years older with a beard and are mostly better looking without them ,in my opinion.
