I am trying to stop buying clothes. I really do have enough for my informal retired lifestyle.

I’m 5ft 6 so hoping it’s not too long on me River.

I’ve never really been a huge clothes shopper and could do with a few bits for autumn.

Hush and Seasalt do some great clothes, esp with tummy forgiving designs. Not cheap though. M&S used to be my go to. Now not so much.

Wondering about the flying jacket, have you seen it “in the flesh “ or just online?

I see that the one I ordered in ochre has an alternative colourway in navy with an ochre pattern which you can get 20% off with a Sparks card plus an extra 10% off if you order from M&S through the Topcashback website or app. That brings the cost down frim £49.50 to £34.65.
Every little helps.
I did look at the one you ordered gillybob but although it's pretty, flowery patterns don't suit me, nor would the colour.
I would be interested to see a real photo of it and read what you think of your recent purchases...colour, fit etc...when you have time.

I do know that it's not leather (at £69 that would be a miracle) and it's machine washable.
I think more harm is done to the environment during the manufacture of cotton and I expect that the jacket will last me until my expiry date.
Prob made in Bangladesh or other foreign climes but what isn't nowadays?
I recently noted on some medical plasters, that they were made in China.
There's no avoiding that place.

I haven’t been to an actual large town all through this summer. Most things Ive wanted I’ve ordered online.

Went to M&S today. It’s been years since I’ve been able to buy a bra style I like in my size in-store and even then are often sold out online. Bought nothing as I didn’t like any of the clothes there. I used to buy most of my clothes there in the 80’s and 90’s. It’s all so frumpy now. 10 years ago I bought 4 spring weight clingy jumpers in the same style which I love but they are showing their age now.

Went to Debenhams and saw some Skechers I liked. Couldn’t find anybody on the entire deserted shop floor except someone operating a till so I gave up.

Then I went to Boots to ask for a refund for some C******e face cream that smelt totally chemically, rancid and fishy. The shop assistant said. “That’s how they are supposed to smell”. I did get a refund ?

The high street is killing itself.

If I don't like or it looks too cheap, it'll go back.

I have a Sparks card Gabriella and the only offers on mine are 10% off multi packs of knickers, ditto knitwear and sausage rolls . Nothing for dresses, coats or anything else worth having .

I think my dress will end up going back . The more I look at it the more I think it was made for someone much taller with a willowy size 8 figure.

I saw some fine clingy jumpers in M&S Guildfod this week. Granted, not the largest store but it has a lot of stock.
They offer a fine gauge, merino V neck fitted jumper in 3 colours for £45.

Oh no...please try it on. I'm size 16 top and 14 bottom so have to buy the 16 and not particularly tall at 5-6 1/2.
Don't be afraid of trying something outside your comfort zone and ask your family for their honest opinions if you feel the need for confirmation.
I think it will look good with boots, heels or trainers.
Many younger women are wearing lightweight midi dresses with clumpy walking boots.
I saw Helen Skelton (sports presenter with a horrible voice) on tv, wearing a calf length midi dress with clumpy black above ankle boots and a blue denim jacket.
Anything goes nowadays.

I wondered if you could even put a belt around it for a change? I have a blue denim jacket and also a dark beige/ almost ochre fake suede biker jacket that might look okay with it ? Both the denim and the suede jackets would go beautifully with the dress and are right on trend but timeless on their own. Don't try for matchy matchy items. Clashing colours are fine.
A cross body bag would be good if you have one.
I personally hate carting around big totes which ultimately get filled with the kitchen sink and do your back in.
If you feel comfy and fab you'll be fine and your confidence will soar.
I bet your DH/OH will look twice and get a glint in his eyes at the 'new' you.

Pp mentioned that tunic and trousers/leggings have had their day. Also inferred that they are a cover up for those overweight. Hmmmm...... That's pretty much my go to for around the house. Marks are great for good quality leggings.

Going out is a version of it. it might be a knee length (or nearly knee length) dress with leggings or with a pair of my Robell ankle grazers. Footwear is trainers or Reiker for super comfort.

I always try Marks first. I used to get fabulous cotton jumpers in their Indigo range which sadly is no longer available.

Not everyone who likes this style is necessarily overweight. I'm all for comfort with a bit of funky style of possible.

Some of the on line Laganstyle linen clothing is mouthwatering and I've ordered some for a holiday in October. They are probably to be considered in the tunic style though come in all lengths from above the knee to midi to ankle length.

I did say “pleather” GabriellaG which is very good especially for those who may be vegan. I recently bought a quite expensive bag/backpack by Fiorella lighter than leather which is very good - but my old prejudices die hard.

I do have a couple of over the body bags Gabriella but they are brown , Black and Tan . There is a gorgeous dark red one in M&S at the moment which is just perfect .....sigh

Many years ago, I bought a Tencel skirt. It was lovely, but when washed, the fabric went sort of hard! Then, when dried, it reverted to being soft again.
Now is this 'new' mentioned Tencel, the same fabric, or is it completely different?

I was quite impressed with M&S when I went in this week - lovely colours and classic styles, the coats and jackets especially. Less glitter thread where it's unwarranted too....

I agree BeeWitch things are much better in M&S of late. Last year and even earlier this year I could not have been tempted to buy anything but right now I could spend like a woman with no arms ..... My poor CC is feeling the strain.

gillybob - I sympathise... I was within a whisker of splurging on a Chanel-style black & white jacket, oh so beautiful...but couldn't justify buying it now I'm retired
