Is anybody else fed up with so called “beauty tips”? I’m 64 now and have eventually realised ( probably always did) that you have the skin you were given genetically. I’ve done everything over the years to look after my skin, and still have a face full of wrinkles! Don’t waste your money on all these products!!

My friend is 73 but doesn't look her age at all. She looks maybe 60 but others might say less. Her secret she says has been to apply vaseline every single day for the past 40+ years. It worked for her, too late for me. I have two other friends who also dont look their age, one has always avoided the sun due to being blonde and fair skin the other still takes HRT.

I hope they never discontinue Astral -I've been using it since I was about 13. (now 71). I feel uncomfortable without it. Other than that I don't really care - I just try to be clean and tidy!

I think how we age is down to genetics. Luck of the draw basically. The dermatologists I worked with for 10 years dismissed the beauty creams. Said any moisturiser is good enough. Internal rehydration is more important. Water, not wine, sorry!

I couldn't care less about beauty tips. No product is going to make you a 20-something girl again. A lot depends on our genetics, so they are really just selling a dream as there is no guarantee that the product will work for you, except for programs like Photodiva that remove wrinkles from your photos thus letting you trick everyone on social media, but why do that? Aging gracefully is much more important, in my humble opinion.

I don't have a regular skin care regime. Some days I just wash my face with warm water - some days I use a cream face wash.
Most days I moisturise my face but not always.
However, I am told that I don't look my age - 72. I think it's down to the luck of the draw whether you have good skin or not. I wouldn't say mine is especially good but it's ok. smile

I always use a serum first thing in the morning after I've washed. I never put soap on my face, I use warm water plus a nice creamy cleanser. I always put some moisturiser and a dab or two of foundation on before I go out, some neutral eye shadow and a quick lick of eye liner. I do it because it makes me feel better, not because I want to look younger. I intend to continue doing this for the rest of my life and love to read beauty tips aimed at the older woman and at 72 I most certainly fit that category!

If you feel better spending £50+ on cream, and can afford it, that’s ok. I do giggle at adverts for pots over £100, to me that’s ridiculous. I adore the smell of Astral but I’m allergic to something in it (lanolin, I think?) and can’t use it on any part of my body ? My hands are a different matter and hate the dark/age spots which are increasing, but just have to accept it. As a piano player+teacher, I can’t stand dry hands but no amount of cream at night makes them soft. Don’t spend a fortune and anything with Shea butter or honey in it is fine. Oh and my lips, is the Gale Hayman lip lift really better than the Avon lip lift? I just use Vaseline or anything else.
