I’m looking for the holy grail of moisturisers - does it exist?
I prefer creams without too many irritating chemical as I end up itchy and sore. I’ve tried various creams and as I’ve got older and we go into winter and cold windy weather my skin is feeling dry and a bit sore. Anyone got any suggestions, please

Also products, Boots No7, E45. Waste of money paying for anything more expensive, probably paying for packaging.

Wow there’s lots of replies here! thank you! I’ll be making a list and lurking around boots and online trying them out. I get flare ups with anything with beeswax and I didn’t get on with Liz Earl either.

I’ve got fair skin from my irish mother, so I’m aware I need cream with SPF in too

I was advised by my GP a dermatologist to use Cetaphyl cleanser and moisturiser a few years ago when I had rosacea and since then I haven’t looked back. It is reasonably priced and has nothing in it to cause irritation.

I've got very sensitive skin, so I use Simple soap, cleansing lotion, and moisturising cream. I find them all alright.

I posted earlier about child’s farm and la Roche Posay for moisturising with Rosacea. I use Lush calming soap with rose and camomile, best thing ever. I also use Lush sleepy lotion as a body moisturiser every night (helps relaxation too!).

I have Celtic sensitive skin and use Simple day moisturiser with SPF and then Clinique City Block on top to be ultra sun safe. My mother has had several basal cell cancers. City block can be drying so moisturiser has to go on first.

E45 is a great alround moisturiser with no additives - inexpensive too.

Aveeno. I've used the different formulas and they are great. I used to be very sensitive to the lanolin used in moisturisers, came out with red rashes. GP actually prescribed Aveeno, but I buy it myself now.

Some moisturisers make my eyes very sore and runny so I have to be careful. My go-to cream is Olay Provital but using l'Oreal at the moment for a change. Also the day and night creams from Poundland (50ml pots, £1) are very good, suitable for vegans, not greasy. I might try Aveena as it seems to be very popular with grans.

I have dry skin, which seems to be allergic to something in most High Street brands

I use a moisteriser and night cream produced by a company calle PureNuffStuff. www.purenuffstuff.co.uk . I have been using it for over 10 years without any problem.

Dermalogica is one of the best moisturisers I have ever used and doesn’t irritate my skin. It is expensive but worth the cost. Equally I use Aveeno as a body lotion.

I clean my face with Simple ( or sometimes Nivea lotion ) then moisturise with CBD cream from Holland & Barret. Works very well.

Two years ago I woke up with my face swollen up like 'elephant man'. I had spent the whole of the previous day preparing green beans for the freezer. My skin had also become very dry. My doctor recommended 3 antihistamine tables a day and cutting out all fancy creams and moisturisers and just using the Aveeno range. It did the trick and I have used Aveeno ever since. I also saved a fair bit of money by doing this. Aveeno is often on special offer too so I usually stock up when it is on at a specially good price.

I agree Dr. Hedison Returning Eye Patch is great for dry skin.It is a Korean skincare beauty product.I have been using this product from the last few months. It gives my skin natural radiance when applied and it is very easy to apply, a little goes a Long way. I advise you to use this product.

Aglassofroseplease I tend to go for natural products - chemical free. I find that raw shea butter is wonderful. I usually buy a block of it off the internet and it lasts me for quite a while.

Another one that I use regularly is coconut oil.

Good luck!

I second Childs Farm baby moisturiser. I have extremely dry skin and apply it morning and evening.

I have used Bach Rescue Cream since my late 20s: now at 63, my skin is still soft, smooth and wrinkle-free. It is dry, sensitive and prone to allergic reactions, but Rescue soothes it away in seconds. Also works well and safely for intimate dryness.. wink

I've used Bobby Brown moisturiser with SPF25 for years - v.pricey but a little goes a long way. Aveeno is good but very fragrant and I can't use any products with fragrance as I am allergic to the chemicals that provide the scent.
Remember Pond's cold cream?

This is great. Aveeno and Simple are coming out tops. I think. I like the sound of the more natural products - my arms got very dry, scabby and flakey ( old age?) in the summer and I used some Shea butter that was recommended to me and it seems to have done a good job.

I have to watch it with shampoo and conditioner as well - I had my hair done recently and whatever they used on me triggered off the flakey scabby scalp and ears again.
Keep the recommendations coming especially moisturisers for the face please

I’ve just thought has anyone used Eucerin?

This is what I chose to moisturise with
www.amazon.co.uk/CeraVe-Moisturising-Lotion-236-ml/dp/B07CG2TD9F?tag=gransnetforum-21.
Works wonders on my granddaughters eczema, non oily too.
I like argan oil aswell. Its great on my winter hands and lips before bed.
I don't use aveeno, its tested on animals.

Purplepoppies Sat 07-Dec-19 15:43:59

I meant to say cerave seems to be cheapest on Amazon at the moment but other uk retailers are stocking it now

luluaugust Sat 07-Dec-19 15:53:14

Another vote for Aveeno. I use Clarins moisturiser on my face.

Try epaderm and dermoil from chemists. Recommended for ezcma sufferers. Cheap and perfume etc free.
