The Telegraph colour supplement has a 'helpful' article which describes what we should wear while walking the dog. As I only rarely walk my daughters dog should I invest in stylish/expensive clothes to be part of the dog walking fraternity/sorority? I thought it was all gardening jackets and wellies. I wouldnt want to be thought unstylish. grin

We have only recently got our dog, so I'm not properly equipped yet. I do the early morning and late evening walks and tend to wear my pyjamas wit an old fleece over the top, I borrow my DH's Toggi Stockmans coat, which is a huge waxed coat to cover up my pyjamas. Green wellies and thick socks, all topped o;ff by whatever hat I can find. Not elegans, I think I will have to shop for something nicer.

Simple - like the rest of us that don't have dogs - dress for the weather, plus where something that you don't mind getting muddy!
At least that article provided someone with a job!

I have been a dog walker all my adult life. Definitely wouldn´t wear thick jumpers, find that once I get going I get quite hot. Thinnish layers are best. And a waterproof jacket with a hood, many´s the time I´ve been caught in a sudden downpour with nothing to cover my head. Very very comfortable shoes, possibly several pairs, so you don´t wear the same ones every day. Wouldn´t wear wellingtons, as I imagine they would cause blisters. I always tie a small silk scarf around my neck. And always take my mobile phone. Happy walking.

I just wear a pair of wellies as they're really comfy to walk in on normal streets, with whatever trousers I'm wearing tucked in, but I must have my ear muffs on as I get bad earache if it's windy.

I can't wear anything too warm even in very cold weather as I get really hot - sometimes I meet up with my sister and brother-in-law to walk the dogs and they are dressed as if going out in the Arctic!

When I first started walking my lovely dog, who sadly died on Christmas Day, I was determined not to be a 'typical' dog walker. I only wore trainers for exercise and so wore flat shoes and a light jacket when it wasn't cold, my wax jacket and wellies when cold and an umbrella when raining. After about 12 years, my feet hurt and my elbow ached holding the umbrella! I bought a v.ery comfy pair of Sketchers trainers and a waterproof jacket with a hood for when it is raining!!!,
