Anyone still going to hairdresser?

I cancelled my appointment because I'm afraid of putting my head back to be washed giving the opportunity for germs to go onto my face from hairdresser above me. My area of the UK has a low incidence of C19 and I am fit and well albeit self distancing and staying at home unless absolutely necessary to venture out. Have other Grans been keeping hair appts? My hair is driving me mad and long overdue for a cut and blow so I would welcome yr kind thoughts or experiences?

I have bought some root touch up stuff and some hairdressing scissors on ebay and will set to on myself when looking too bad. Would be interested in getting utube links from anyone re; cutting your own hair. Fortunately, when over 70 hair growth is not so active (I think?).

I think we need to keep as up to date as possible with the advice.

Now the NT is closing all its open spaces and we are being advised not to go out into the country for walks. We should all pay attention and only see absolutely essential others and even then keep our distance.

Hairdressers are not essential anywhere, including your home.

None of us know if we are incubating CV19 or acting as carriers so we have a duty to everyone else not to infect them unknowingly and not to put ourselves at risk in order for the NHS to cope with those who need it.

It really is that simple.

I am going into work tommorow, as I said upthread, I am sitting at least 5 feet away from my nearest colleague. I will not go to any take aways to eat and will bring in my own food, I will also not be sharing biscuits or anything like that.
For my own sake I am letting some of the comments go, the bit about me being irresponsible like a drunk driver was spiteful though, and it really upset me. That remark was totally uncalled for and designed to cause me maximum upset.

I shall be cutting DHs hair and he will NOT be cutting mine even though he kindly offered! smile

My hairdresser of 25+ years is also a friend and her partner is undergoing treatment for cancer so I cancelled my last appointment as I had a cold and didn't want to pass it on. I would not go now even in the unlikely event she would make an appointment for both our sakes. I've bought a colour kit and will attempt to do my roots myself - I usually cut my own fringe anyway. I have it tied up most of the time and as we can't go out or see anyone it doesn't really matter what it looks like. sad

Plus if I am not going anywhere and nobody is going to see me - who cares?
Bad attitude, but why stress over it?

suziewoozie we could have learned from Italy but now we are becoming Italy
Did they not go into lockdown in the north after the first two deaths? But the cases and deaths still are rising.

DD said she was going to facetime me this morning so I spent extra time on my hair, made an effort with my make-up and got dressed rather than slob around in my PJs.

She rang me on the landline. hmm

Call what we should have e learned from Italy us to go into lockdown more quickly. Given that they appear to be 24 days ahead of us and went into full lockdown on the 9th, that’s the equivalent of our locking down tomorrow - for Italy, it appears much too late, if we’d learned from them we could have locked down at least a week ago. BJ is far too fond of quoting our wonderful liberal democracy and far too much of a coward to make any decision until forced to do so. He’s a child in a job that needs an adult. Cometh the hour, the man hast not come

Sorry mistype 14 days ahead

suziewoozie Sun 22-Mar-20 14:36:03

DD arrived with flowers before i proofed and I couldn’t read for the tears

Why not do a Joan Collins? We haven’t seen her own hair for years?hats, scarves, and WIGS. My idea of extreme sport is seeing how long I can go without washing my hair, so not bothered.
It’s all rather unimportant at the moment isn’t it?

H1954 Sun 22-Mar-20 16:52:38

Sorry, have to say this; you are all so concerned about what you might pick up in the hairdressers! Did you consider what you might actually pass on to the hair stylist??? Don't go! Simple!

janeainsworth Sun 22-Mar-20 17:09:43

Callistemon I think a lot of people panicked and travelled south, taking the virus with them.

etheltbags1 Sun 22-Mar-20 17:13:38

Had mine done 3 weeks ago, I won't be going now for the duration. So will be back to my old look of scraped back pony tail

Fiachna50 Sun 22-Mar-20 17:16:23

No, I will be cancelling. Not worth the risk, my hairdressers can be very busy at times.

Oopsadaisy3 Sun 22-Mar-20 20:23:47

I have cancelled, the salon is in the gym , so it will probably close soon anyway.

Heaven knows what I will look like, a badger like old hag I expect......who knows what my hair colour is now? Well, we will soon find out.
