How many beige clothes do you have?

Having just purchased a bright tomato red Joules top (reduced), I wondered whether at 74 I should tone down my colourful clothing. I am still more or less dark haired and tan easily so always go for colour.
How many beige items of clothing do you have (I have none) and how many red?

Just one summer boatneck jumper. It goes with most things but I’ve never been into beige and browns. It’s just useful

I never wear beige. I have some red and lots of pink in every shade, mostly deep vibrant pinks. Not much green, a little bit of blue, a little white, masses of pink. In fact I just ordered a pink patterned blouse from M&S yesterday. I don't actually need it but it's the only new thing I've had since the start of lockdown. I'm 73, so why not.

I have nothing beige. I suit blue and purple so have a sea of these colours in my wardrobe. My pet hate is seeing elderly men in beige slacks and a pastel green jacket, oh and beige shoes!

No beige, ever. When I met my bloke, he was reading a book titled Never Admit to Beige. I like the title. I think it sums up an attitude.

I do, however, hanker after a camel coloured coat.

I had a beige jacket with a belt from M&S - at least I did before I went to see Edie with the fabulous Sheila Hancock. She wore an identical jacket at the start of her journey. I came home and put it straight in the charity bag. No more beige!

I never wear any tone of it on my top half, because it makes me look so washed out. I do have a couple of pairs of casual summer trousers in a natural shade, which I suppose is a form of beige, but team them with a colourful top.

I avoid beige like the coronavirus! A few years ago I “ lost “ my Mum in M&S. She had Alzheimer’s. I was thinking of asking staff to help find her, but how would I describe her? An old lady - gray hair- dressed in beige. When I looked round shop 95% of people fitted that description.
Happy ending though. She had forgotten I was with her and gone home.

Well food for thought shysal. I have one beige Cardi, and one pair of red cut offs - for summer I'm mainly in navy or turquoise, whites when I dare, a variety of colours of T-shirts.
In winter it's mainly browns or black with red or pink jumpers

I had a wardrobe full of beige a few years ago..... then me and my best friend said that if ever one of us caught the other buying or about to buy beige we would quietly take the garment and put back on the shelf ...only because we both have enough of it! I dont wear red as I’m not fond of the colour. But I also like bright colours. You keep. Wearing any colour you like ..,,. And that includes beige.

I think beige has come in for a lot of stick here but IMO some of the “elderly” pastels are much more reprehensible (especially teamed with beige or, even worse, each other)
There is a particular pastel lilac, often favoured by “trendy” vicars of either gender, also a pastel green which suits nobody and don’t get me started on peach.
Whoever decreed that the older generation look good in pastels?
Give me denim blue, bright red, a bold yellow and white any day (not necessarily together, but why not?)

I recently discovered I have four pairs of beige linen trousers! Three of them were bought in the ‘steroid years’, so are far too big, and heading for the charity shop with all the other ‘fat clothes’.
The newer things are mostly cheap and cheerful, with lots of royal blue, red, and orange.

One of my grandmas, along with her two sisters, my great aunts wore the old lady uniform of pleated skirts, cardigans, often with a broach and some sort of old lady blouse when I saw them, which was quite often as a child. I guess at that time they could have been around late sixties early seventies. Many women on GN will of course be that age, and I imagine I'm typical often in skinny jeans, long shirts, and leggings. Ankle boots in winter, sliders in summer. I try to conjure up visions of my elderly relatives, who actually weren't that old, but seemed like it, wearing the attire of today, and then I try to imagine them doing some yoga poses, such as downward dog, wearing say crop leggings and t shirts, somehow it doesn't work grin I guess we are all of our time.

I own one ( old ) beige summer jacket, and a natural botany wool cardigan. I don't own anything white, apart from underwear. I like colour, and also pattern. I rarely wear blue, nor do I have any blue furnishing. Although I do wear primary colours, I'm attracted to muted shades like rust, maroon, sage, mustard, and if I choose blue, it's likely to be a wedgewood or airforce blue. I do like pink and orange.

I love colour - bright Summer shades suit me best. I cannot wear cream white or beige near my face. I don't look too good in black or yellow either. I save all those colours to wear on my lower half.
I have to be careful with red, but I do wear it. I like the sound of your tomato red top SHYSAL, If the colour suits you- wear it, enjoy it and enjoy being happy in it.

Hetty58 Wed 08-Jul-20 11:16:39

shysal, no beige here - I find it dull. You don't need to tone down your favourite bright colours, at any age, just wear what you like!

123kitty Wed 08-Jul-20 11:17:18

Alima I've had my colours done and would recommend it. Any of the colours I disliked I just removed, still left with plenty of choices. Always carry my swatch with me, it's a tiny handy size. Beige doesn't suit me, but I'll happily wear beige trousers. I would NEVER wear anything that could be mistaken for soft furnishings- now that is ageing.

Chewbacca Wed 08-Jul-20 11:19:40

Not a thing in beige in my wardrobe.

rowanflower0 Wed 08-Jul-20 11:21:19

I have a bright red top on today, and my favorite colours for clothes are red, pink, purple and blue. I wouldn't dream of wearing beige.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 08-Jul-20 11:25:57

Never ever wear beige as it just doesn't suit me. I tan very easily and my hair is now all white so some colours make me look washed out. I go for blues, denim, lots of white, red and of the blue hues. Just love colour.

J52 Wed 08-Jul-20 11:27:15

The only beige I have are a pair of linen shorts and a Burberry Mac which I don’t wear, but can’t bear to part with.

I think skin tone and hair change with age and the colours we once wore no longer suit. Warm browns, pinks and red spectrums used to be my shades. Now it’s cool blues, and greens.

Gajahgran Wed 08-Jul-20 11:29:22

I think it's important to wear the clothes you love and in the colours you love. If you feel good in it and it makes you happy it's likely to suit you.
I have tried, and mostly failed, to have a capsule wardrobe. I like red as it suits my skin tone and I have just counted 10 red items. I do not have any beige but like black and navy. I do have a camel coat and wear it for special occasions.

Rose30 Wed 08-Jul-20 11:33:28

None - they don't suit me. When I got home from a Colour me Beautiful session I threw all my clothes on a bed and sorted them into colours. The pile that wasn't on my colour chart went out. It wasn't surprising that they were things I rarely wore or never felt properly comfortable in them!

Re Black - someone once told me that the French wear black to weddings as it is very chic - is that true???

Juicylucy Wed 08-Jul-20 11:36:33

None, I don’t like it. I like a pop of colour, beige is neither here nor there in my opinion.

dizzygran Wed 08-Jul-20 11:38:39

Made me think - not much beige, but read grey, navy and white!! Will have a look for some colour.

Flakesdayout Wed 08-Jul-20 11:46:22

Ooh I dont do beige and I have to be careful with red. I do have one creamy/beige jacket which I bought for a wedding but that is all. I do wear black usually in winter and for trousers and jeans and do have lots of colours for summer.
