Hi all. I want a haircut, one that minimises my jowls. What do you think?

lemongrove Tue 06-Jul-21 21:18:57

Either short or ...medium to longer hair, nothing that sits at chin level like a bob. It’s yet another dismal part of the ageing process isn’t it?

JillEH Tue 06-Jul-21 21:26:31

Must admit that some things no longer motivate me. I am still trying to try with my appearance and grooming... I just don't know how to do it!

kittylester Tue 06-Jul-21 21:45:08

You seem quite dissatisfied with lots of things about your appearance op.

JillEH Tue 06-Jul-21 21:47:00

First, what does "op" mean?
Second, no not dissatisfied, but anxious. A different thing.

Callistemon Tue 06-Jul-21 22:34:39

Do jaw exercises (not in public).
Tell yourself you're lovely.
Because you're worth it.

JillEH Tue 06-Jul-21 22:35:57

Callistemon good idea. Is that cosmetics company paying you?!

MissAdventure Tue 06-Jul-21 22:37:29

I think a bob at just about chin length is supposed to be flattering.
I'm hardly a style icon though, so I'm probably talking out of my hat.

JillEH Tue 06-Jul-21 22:40:43

We are all style icons...

I wanted a change of style too JillEH, and did an internet search for hairstyles for old fat face ,
All that came up was Jane Fonda (thin and doesnt really look old), and 20y old's with fashionably dyed grey hair! grin grin grin

If you find an answer please let me know!

Namsnanny Wed 07-Jul-21 01:10:37

Oh, and Jane Fonda was wearing a wig!

JillEH Wed 07-Jul-21 01:36:36

Namsnanny yeah I did a similar thing, and got the same results...thin old gals who probably had had a chin tuck... It's time we made double chins fashionable. Let's start a jowl-positive movement!

Not sure about the hairstyle but I do have the same problem with a double chin. I avoid having my photo taken because whatever angle a pic is taken from the dreaded chins are always so obvious.

I've had shortish layer cut hair for 20 years but now in my 70's I took the plunge and have grown it into a bob that sits below my jaw line. My hair is still reasonably thick so I tuck it behind my ears and it curls round towards my chin, partially hiding my jaw line and reducing the look of my jowls. It's much more flattering than the short cut I used to have.

My double/treble chins have become worse over the last couple of years BUT NO ONE KNOWS!

Never mind the hair style, Face masks are your friends grin

Face yoga.

(Best not to try it in public.)

Otherwise you could try different wigs to see which is most flattering and have your hair cut into that style.

Don't go to the hairdresser I went to though, she doesn't know the meaning of 'bob'.

I know!
I used to get a cut for 10 bob but prices nowadays are astronomical grin

OP I think you should spend less time looking in the mirror. Being obsessed with how you look is not healthy.
I have a rule - I only look at myself once a day - unless I catch myself in a shop window!!

Callistemon Wed 07-Jul-21 10:21:02

grin

I thought I'd convert bobs into £s but I need a cup of coffee first.

Namsnanny Wed 07-Jul-21 10:39:17

Actually I've just seen a man with a beard and a double chin.......? May be I should abandon the tweezers?????

MissAdventure Wed 07-Jul-21 11:15:56

I saw a woman with both, this morning.
Then I moved away from the mirror.

Namsnanny Wed 07-Jul-21 11:21:52

??? mirror? What's that then?
