Does anyone else loathe the current trouser styles?

I mean baggy, cut off/cropped, often baggy and cut off or cropped.
Personally I think they don’t look nice even on size 8 models of 5’ 10”, like pics in an email this morning from a co. I buy from now and then.

I suppose they’re all right if you honestly don’t care what you look like, but I don’t mind admitting that I don’t want to resemble a lumpy sack of potatoes. I’m not short or even particularly fat, either, but that’s what I’d certainly look like in some of their latest offerings.
If that makes me vain, so be it!

I know what you mean witzend. All Summer I've been looking for some straight leg white trousers. I eventually found a pair in Damart of all places. I have never bought from them, but these are good.
I'm 5' 3"ish. I would look nothing on earth in the baggy short trouser you see everywhere.

Blondiescot Wed 25-Aug-21 10:38:43

I'm 5'2, as broad as I'm tall and I'm happy to wear them as long as they're comfy! Yes, they probably make me look like a sack of tatties, but I'm past caring...

Im with you on this. I’m not keen on then either. They don’t look practical or attractive to me. There were lots in m and s sale so maybe others feel the same!

Doodle Wed 25-Aug-21 10:44:28

No I don’t like them either. I’m resorting to making my own.

glammanana Wed 25-Aug-21 10:45:47

Witzend I don't think it make's you vain at all you know what you like and what suits you.
These wide legged cropped trousers usually only work on very slim youngster's like my DGD who is just 19 she wears them with a short cropped top and it works well for her.
MiniMoon I have always looked at Damart and bought some nice staple pieces from them which have always been excellent quality their size's are true to form and fit well .

I don’t like cropped trousers at all so usually buy wide leg linen trousers from M and S or wear boot cut jeans…

Rosalyn69 Wed 25-Aug-21 10:48:38

I love them. I find them very practical and they suit my lifestyle. I have some straight leg trousers from M & S which are super nice and easy care and look lovely with a pretty shirt.

My shape is elderly apple so I have thin legs and dumpy body. If I wore narrow trousers or leggings my little thin legs would look like they were hanging down below the more voluminous upper garment. So I like straight leg trousers with enough width to balance the quite loose shirt I like for an upper garment.

I bought three pairs of comfortable linen trousers for wearing at home but they have become very baggy linen trousers; no I haven't lost much weight but they have stretched.

(Yes, they were cheapies)

PinkCosmos Wed 25-Aug-21 11:29:29

I think you have to be a very slim Amazon to really suit big baggy trousers.

On the other hand, leggings are a bit of a challenge. As one other poster said, if you have an apple body and skinny legs they don't look right.

I am an apple but with fattish thighs. I wear leggings but with long tops which (I hope) look OK. I mostly wear cropped leggings for just being at home. They are a bit more more flattering than the long ones which can make you look like Max Wall - remember him!!

I prefer straight legs jeans and trousers really. I get mine from Bon Marche.

I have some tapered cropped trousers by klass also a site named Esprit has some great organic and pure cotton/mix offerings. And the best budget I find is good old Matalan! They have every shape and style and size for all of us at a budget price too so multi buying (Ooh one in every colour!?) won't break the bank

Aldom Wed 25-Aug-21 11:36:16

I wear straight leg and cropped trousers. I am 5'4" and slim. Cropped trousers suit me equally as much as long straight legs. They are lovely in summer. I'm wearing navy cropped at the moment. Off out for lunch with a friend.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 25-Aug-21 11:38:39

I hate anything cropped, be it top or trousers and won't be buying anything in that style.

Aldom Wed 25-Aug-21 11:40:36

My cropped trousers are tapered. I wouldn't wear the flared ones.

jaylucy Wed 25-Aug-21 11:43:41

There is no way that I would wear cropped or bengaline trousers with my cankles!
Being plus sized as well means that if I wore cropped anything I'd just look like a lollipop!
I'm just really glad that wide legged , full length trousers are due to be the thing for this autumn/winter so I can buy a few pairs to keep me covered for the next time that the cropped styles come back round in the cycle!

MawBe Wed 25-Aug-21 11:44:55

I am just glad we may be seeing the end of “skinny” jeans.
Mostly because I don’t have “skinny” legs but they do few favours to anybody.
Other than that I don’t know what anybody is objecting to in “current trends” - cropped trousers suit those with good ankles and have always been popular with a certain age group.
Personally I like straight , bootcut or wide trousers , think Lauren Bacall! Glad to see a move back in that direction.

AGAA4 Wed 25-Aug-21 11:49:31

I don't look good on cropped trousers or leggings. Prefer straight leg or boot cut but they aren't around much now and I wear boots all through the winter.

Namsnanny Wed 25-Aug-21 12:56:20

Well, imv anything is better than the torn leg jean fashion.
Splits frayed all the way up the legs.
So popular at the mo.
I dont like fully elasticated waist bands or pleats in trousers. Fussy I know!

PinkCosmos Wed 25-Aug-21 13:03:46

I like the tapered cropped legging and trousers and I think they suit me. I am a quite chubby but I have nice slim ankles smile. Need to highlight the positives!

Casdon Wed 25-Aug-21 13:16:53

I think it’s possible to find a cut off or cropped style that suits you, and I like tapered style jeans too. You have to try different styles on to see what works best with your figure though. I like ones which are close fitting to my calves best. The shape of your trousers/jeans does date you like nothing else in my opinion because for some reason people are less willing to try different styles than on their top half, so it’s worth making the effort to find some you like, especially as they are really practical as well in the summer, they look nicer with sandals than full length.

Jaxjacky Wed 25-Aug-21 13:19:54

I don’t wear cropped trousers, either shorts, straight legged M&S jeans or their joggings with boots. I have one pair of wide, full length linen trousers. 5 11, size 16, occasionally a 14.

crazyH Wed 25-Aug-21 13:23:36

I'm short with skinny legs ...can you imagine what a sight I'd be in cropped trousers ? ?

Ro60 Wed 25-Aug-21 13:51:22

At 5' and a bit (--less than I used to be--) they are a god-send! - No more having to cut the bottoms off & re-sew. ?

Deedaa Wed 08-Sept-21 16:31:04

My swollen ankles stop me wearing any sort of cropped trousers. I wear wide linen trousers in the summer and straight leg jeans in the winter. I bought a couple of tapered pairs this summer which are supposed to be rolled up above the ankle but I just roll them down.
