Does anyone else loathe the current trouser styles?

I'm tall and seem to have spent most of my life trying to avoid the 'ankle grazer' look. I found Dorothy Perkins Tall range are a good length but I was amazed that they included cropped leg and ankle grazer trousers in this range. Surely if a tall person wants 'too short' trousers they would just shop normal ranges!
I quite like cropped trousers, just below the knee, as an alternative to shorts in the summer (they help cover my veins!) but baggy ankle grazers just look weird to me.

@Caleo, I am middle aged pear shape with short, stumpy legs that resemble a tree trunk at best. Wide cropped trousers with a “floaty” top are the very worst outfit l could wear as they would make me totally shapeless and look three or four sizes larger than I actually am. I need a fitted top to the waist, flowing over my (far too large) hips. Straight legged style trousers work well and leggings/footless tights if I am wearing a knee length dress. Nobody is allowed to see my knees!

Well, the fashion world has got to make money. Every season there has to be some "must have" item of fashion to get folk to spend money no matter how ridiculous. You are not being vain.

I wore baggy trousers in the 1970s and I do not want to wear them again. I'll stick to my jeggings thank you.

I have never followed the latest trend, I believe a lady dresses for the occasion and is not led by the latest fast fashion fad. There are some amazing YouTubbers and websites if I ever need any inspiration....

I'm 5'2, as broad as I'm tall and I'm happy to wear them as long as they're comfy! Yes, they probably make me look like a sack of tatties, but I'm past caring...

Here Here! I'm 4'10" and also as wide as I'm tall. I don't really mind what I look like as long as its clean and fairly tidy and most of all comfortable.

I love wearing baggy, comfortable trousers - but they have to be full length, not cropped. I don't care too much about whether they suit me. I know slim trousers don't, as I no longer have the shape for them!

Caleo, my friend has a large body and tiny, short legs. She wears tight leggings with baggy tops (to show off her slim legs, she says) and, frankly, looks ridiculous - as if a child is hiding under said top - holding her up!

(I do wish people would just check in a mirror, side and back view, before assuming that something suits them!)

I’m tall and slim but wouldn’t wear those cropped baggy trousers. I stick to slim leg, ankle skimmers in summer, full length in winter. I have a few pairs of wide leg linen trousers from ages ago, can’t bear to throw them out as they are good to wear in hot countries, if I ever escape from the UK again.

I looked at myself this morning and reached the conclusion that I looked like a sack of potatoes regardless of trouser style, so it's a diet me, and crossing fingers that I will get into ANY style of trousers before it becomes really cold!

I’m not impressed with the plethora of styles, few of which suit me as well as bootcut used to 20 years ago.
I tried “balloon” jeans- big mistake!
Skinny is out as I have fatty legs,
Wide legged look silly on 5’2” ,( my inner Katherine Hepburn seems to be AWOL),which brings me back to straight leg.
What I miss most though is decent material at a price under £80+ , they all seem so flimsy and I regret getting rid of my various pairs of M&S wool and tweed (half lined) which did not cost anything like that.

On the school run I see young mums with ripped jeans to show off their leg tattoos, and one who wears black fishnet tights underneath which show through the rips.
It's not a look I aspire to though ?

Cropped, wide, narrow, baggy...........who cares what is in fashion? I wear what is comfortable, and if it makes me look reasonably human, so much the better - but I’m not really bothered. Getting old is very liberating.
It’s ages since I bought any new clothes anyway, and I have more than enough for my needs. Keeping up with fashion is too much like hard work.

I hate skinny jeans , trying to find some reasonably priced bootcut ones is a struggle as all the cheaper brands are skinny . I like Roman original brand for trousers as they are well made and affordable

Everyone had their own style. I am not bothered by what other people wear.

My aunt always says that clothes designers hate women. Why else would they design such ridiculous clothes. Yes, I also hate cropped trousers, unless they are capri pants, ie fit to the leg and finish at the bottom of the calf rather than something 'half-mast' flapping about looking as though they ran out of fabric. It makes me laugh when young women see new season's styles and those of us in our 60's say "Yes, I remember wearing that the first time around".

I don't mind so much for summer, but to have cut off pants in fall/winter is just awkward in my opinion. I really do miss capri length, or just at the top of the calf. They were nowhere to be found this year, and deemed to be frumpy.

Young people are not wearing socks, but I hate not wearing socks in my shoes, plus there is the cold ankle situation (we get a lot of rain). Even with short boots the pants don't quite meet, and skin is showing.

Yes, cropped baggy cargo style trousers hurt my eyes. Very ugly. Coupled with clunky trainers resembling a rocket launch pad, the effect is ludicrous.
I love fitted Capri style such as Audrey Hepburn wore, with a striped top, red cotton scarf round my neck, ballet pumps and a string of onions over my shoulder as I cycle along ?.

I wanted a pair of navy trousers, really struggled but eventually found some lovely ones in M & Co.

I'm convalescing after a broken ankle. While I had a plaster cast on I had to reluctantly order baggy cropped trousers but I agree, I wouldn't wear them normally as they look hideous on me. Give me straight trousers any day.

I have found during lockdown that I have resorted to lots of comfy elasticated waist trousers and now feel so uncomfortable in any trousers with buttons and zips. My apple tummy doesn't help!

I like the "long shorts" by Mountain Warehouse. They are about knee length and just right (for me) for riding my trike. They are not too tight and best of all they have plenty of pockets. Have you noticed ladies' trousers rarely have pockets? These shorts have two side pockets, two hip pockets with zips and a back pocket as well. I think they are a men's size, but so what? They are comfortable and practical.
