Changing over to Autumn/Winter clothes

Will somebody please tattoo on the inside of my eye-lids
“On no account buy any more jumpers” ?
I have made a start on getting the bags of Winter clothes down from the loft and I cannot believe how many jumpers I have amassed over the last few years.
The charity shop and the Afghan refugees will do well out of them as they are all in excellent condition, but short of changing three times a day I DO NOT NEED ALL OF THEM.
It is nice to rediscover some old friends however and I can hardly wait for it to get cold enough to wear them!

I really like my winter clothes, snuggly jumpers, suede boots and cord jeans -which do you prefer?

GNs how about doing our bit to save the planet and trying a capsule wardrobe. No more sorting through cupboards of mismatched clothing to find two items that you can wear together.

#andme I thought I'd 'capsulated' my wardrobe last year but I still managed to buy another pair of boots (there was a small gap in my colours and styles....) And another coatigan! But I'm really really going to make a concerted effort to have a real clear out! Specially as I know more People than usual may be searching the charity shops this year and frankly the stuff is usually horrid with the odd gem, and most of my stuff is M&S (or S&M as DH likes to quip..)/ ex-Boundary Mill., Which I'm not going to visit any more as I think I need to reduce my stock, and I'm not going to get anything now that's going to outlive me , if yer get my drift?! I find it hardest to ditch coats as they are still like new even at 15+ years old! Love autumn winter .

I'm impressed that anyone would have enough jumpers that they could store them in the loft over the summer. I have a few, but need them at times over the summer when the evenings are chilly.
I much prefer sweatshirts as they seem to wash and wear better than jumpers.
I am really looking forward to getting back into my ankle boots again. Trainers never seem to look tidy under trousers; sandals and daps don't give much support.

I make rag rugs with all my old t-shirts (plus the rest of the family's and friends cast offs). Can't find a use for old sweaters though, the ones that aren't good enough for the charity shops. Anyone got any ideas?

Some charity shops sell unwearable clean clothes to the 'ragman' ie textile merchants but check first.

Jeans and jumpers for me in the winter. I’ve nearly finished knitting an oversized waistcoat which will be a great body warmer in freezing weather.

I hate winter weather but I love winter clothes.

My navy blue cashmere coat was purchased in 1976. Still looking good. I wear it for formal occasions and recently bought a down puffa coat for this winter. The Jules winter jacket with quilted liner will be going to the charity shop. Interesting thread. I am on my second home with nothing stored in the loft. smile

I’ve started to sort my summer and winter stuff too. Generally I like autumn and winter things best. I’ve probably got plenty of things too, but just might have to buy the odd top up! I was in M and S last week with DH and saw a puffer jacket which I just HAD to buy - even though I don’t need it. ?? I do try to get rid of as much as I buy and only buy when I need it but I’m afraid I fail terribly

Well done!
Just wondering why more stuff crept up to our loft after we emptied it when more insulation was put down hmm

There are no clothes up there, though.

Winter clothes make me feel claustrophobic, give me lightweight summer clothes all the time - and the weather to go with it.

I don’t have a capsule wardrobe but usually only buy a few colours anyway, so things always ‘go’ with other things.

Callistemon Wed 22-Sept-21 17:08:58

I have three capsule wardrobes, one in the spare room.

I've just bought 2 new jumpers, a shacket and knee length navy boots. Do I need them, probably not. I just hope this winter I will get to wear them, I bought a new coat last winter and got to wear it once with the lockdowns.

Can't bear jumpers or anything woolen, I usually wear polo shirts or long sleeved shirts throughout the winter. I have a couple of sweat shirts in case it gets really really cold.

I’m just the same, it’s usually far too hot indoors to wear thick jumpers and I find them too itchy. I’m a T-shirt and sweatshirt person, with maybe a light fleece gillet on a very cold day.

MayBee70 Wed 22-Sept-21 18:05:56

I’ve just been wearing layers throughout the seasons for as long as I can remember. After a cold start to September it’s now baking hot and I keep making the mistake of going for a walk with a long fleece on rather than a short one with a zip that can be easily removed.

On my holidays in the Yorkshire Dales the sun is shining not even thought about winter clothing.

Janetashbolt Wed 22-Sept-21 18:51:56

Apart from school uniform never owned a jumper or cardigan, I don't really feel the cold. Wear the same clothes all year round. At the moment 2 black skirts and 5 different coloured t-shirts

Sara1954 Wed 22-Sept-21 19:24:20

I put off the changeover for as long as possible, I prefer summer clothes to winter clothes.
I dislike dull colours, and everything seems really dull this year.
I’m quite good at getting rid of stuff though, every season, if I haven’t worn it, out it goes.

Goodness!

I've got a cardigan slung round my shoulders as the temperature has dropped.
It was lovely and warm all day.

Jaxjacky Wed 22-Sept-21 21:09:43

Alioop might I ask what a shacket is? Thanks.

Lucca Wed 22-Sept-21 21:54:55

Cross between a shirt and a jacket ?

Jaxjacky Wed 22-Sept-21 22:04:12

Dog! Should’ve thought of that Lucca thanks, just never heard of it..

Don't do seasonal wardrobe but simply layer up or down according to weather. Trying to do my bit for GW by not buying any more items. I really have more than enough clothes that I still like irrespective of their age. Buying something on a whim or 'for a wee change' has got to go. Difficult but.....hey.

Happysexagenarian Wed 22-Sept-21 22:44:31

TBH I usually continue to wear t-shirts and sandals right through the winter unless there's snow on the ground, I just add a cardigan or overshirt. I can't remember the last time I wore boots in the winter.

I do like winter clothes, supersoft jumpers and tunics, velvety cords etc., but this year I can't seem to find the longline styles I like in nice colours or patterns. So many seem to be totally shapeless and drab. And why does everything have to have three-quarter sleeves??

Edge26 Thu 23-Sept-21 08:45:05

What I love about this country is the seasons and how you can dress accordingly. I must admit though I do love wearing jeans, nice boots, jumpers and coats. It is nice to get them after hanging in the wardrobe and thinking , these are nice I'd forgotten I had them .

Jane71 Thu 23-Sept-21 10:28:38

Yes I too love the seasons, but don't like changing from summer clothes to winter clothes. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but I prefer to gradually move rather than suddenly store a raft of clothes and bring others out. Not having many clothes helps I suppose, but don't get me started on footwear. I shudder to think how many pairs of sandals, flats, heels, boots, walking boots I have.
