need new eyeshadow but don't want a mixture of colours

I have recently had my hair cropped and need a bolder eye make up. I used to use Bobbi Brown powder shadow but they no longer come in singles . Their khaki was my favourite last time I had short hair but is discontinued. All pallets have a number of colours I would never use. My hair is silver, my eyes are blue and I have a warmish skin tone. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try Look Fabulous Forever for advice on colours to suit warm or cool skin tones. Though having said that I personally don’t like obvious ‘coloured’ eye shadow if you know what I mean. My colouring is similar to yours and I like taupe, which suits blue eyes. I have been using Maybelline 24 hour tattoo cream eyeshadow in taupe for some time, inexpensive and really does last all day.

If you don’t mind another suggestion from me, I dot black eyeliner very finely between roots of top and bottom lashes which doesn’t look overdone but makes a huge difference in emphasising my eyes. Best fine and long lasting (all day) one I have found is Hourglass gel pencil. Comes in other colours too.

Hello Mazgg Bobbi Brown still does single colours. They are available on their website www.bobbibrown.co.uk. They have a range of colours, I use the matte eyeshadow in Taupe. Hope this helps.

I might have a go at that and will also try and find that gel pen, thank you..?

For me it saves putting on mascara shinamae, which I only do if going out somewhere now, and suits me better. I think I got the pen from Feel Unique. smile

I only use one colour, so buy the Boots No7 individual one.

I have just looked on Amazon and it is quite expensive so might go with the L’Oreal cheaper alternative but the way you say you apply it is what interested me..?

Does anyone use eyeshadow primer? I don’t wear make up much these days but did watch the Look Fabulous Forever tutorial about eye make up and thought I should get some.

I use eyeshadow primer along with face primer when going out out and it does hold the colour.

Is there one you’d recommend? I never used to leave the house without wearing make up at one time. And when I saw the grandchildren as I don’t want to scare them!

I know it’s not cheap shinamae but it’s the combination of fine tip and long lasting which tipped the balance for me after I tried others. I must warn you that if you use it every day it lasts a month to six weeks. However I rarely buy any other make up and never have my nails done or any other treatments, hair about every six months so I don’t mind spending on this.
Maybe I tried Look Fabulous Forever eye primer but didn’t like it. It just felt like an unnecessary extra layer of ‘stuff’. I find my Maybelline cream eyeshadow goes on well and stays put all day without a primer, the best eyeshadow I have found and easy to put on with fingers too. And cheap.

Maybee, I use an eye primer and face primer when I put makeup on. I use the Laura Geller ones, which you can get from QVC or Amazon or eBay. It used to be sold in Debenhams too, but I think they’ve all closed now. It’s an American brand, but I like it very much.

Laura Geller for me too. An easy way I’ve found to apply their soft liner crayon is to close the eye gently and pull the pencil between the eyelids - results in a fine line, top and bottom. Sounds odd but it works - I use a green, brown or purple as black’s too stark for me.

I use This Works it is an animal cruelty free company

I was a redhead/freckles and now a short haired blonde. I use a taupe eyeshadow, Rimmel lipstick and Rimmel waterproof mascara brown.
Avon Glimmerstick eyeliner in brown and Avon Glimmerstick for eyebrows in blonde. They are both a swivel pencil and no sharpening. The eyeliner is not intense, just enough to define the eyes, a much or as little definition as wanted. I’ve been using the Glimmerstick for at least ten years. Available on Amazon and eBay for about £3.50 which is around half the usual Avon price.
All cheap as chips and I wear it all every day.

Nars and Trinny London are both good brands with staying power but not too heavy.

Same as Coolgran ( although am a longer haired blonde) but I use the exact products that she recommends and they are excellent and never look obvious or overdone.

Thank you all for your hints and tips which I will try. I have only used powder shadow as it doesn't settle into the creases.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 02-Nov-21 16:17:55

That’s one of the things I like about the Maybelline one, it doesn’t!

I didn’t bother with the eyeliner after all but have just received two pots of the Maybelline tattoo eyeshadow on your recommendation. ??

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 02-Nov-21 18:26:11

Thanks for telling me shinamae. I hope you like them as much as I do. I promise I’m not on commission but since finding that eyeshadow it’s the only one I’ve used. I get hot very easily (anxiety) and it stays put. (That’s why I settled on the Hourglass eyeliner too, doesn’t melt /run into my eyes.). The name’s a bit scary but it works better for me than powder eyeshadow ever did.

Shinamae Tue 02-Nov-21 18:47:39

To tell you the truth I have not worn eyeshadow for a couple of years, I usually wear foundation, mascara and a bit of lipstick, so I will be back to tell you how I’ve got on with the new eyeshadow I think one is a caramel colour and one is chocolate…

Bobbi brown recently came out with a new concept in makeup. The line is called Jones Road. In an interview she said she sold her company and her name and none of the makeup is like it was when she owned the company.

DillytheGardener Tue 02-Nov-21 22:43:55

Pavane I hadn’t realised Bobbi brown had sold the brand. That explains why the fantastic nude shadows she used to have are now gone. Looked at Jones Road, it’s v expensive. Have you tried it? Is it stocked in any stores where I might try it out?
