Do you think the baggy, shapeless, oversized clothing trend is flattering?

I think it looks terrible on most people.

What's the point of looking after your figure, only to hide it in swathes of loose oversized, droopy shapeless material?
Also, I've noticed that this particular look makes people look far bigger than they actually are.
It's a look that's only really flattering on the very slim and the very young, and even then it still doesn't look that great.
Its not going to look good on the average British woman.

Of course that's just my opinion.
What do you think?

Who makes the summer dress WW2 . I really like that style.

Yes!!

I wish I was 5' 7"!
Everything looks better if you're taller.

At one time I was 5' 5" but seem to have shrunk. My DGD has well overtaken me but says she doesn't want to be tall - I keep telling her it's wonderful.

Not if you as wide as tall though.

I’ve reached the stage where I think “that will do” and it won’t frighten the horses.

?
I think I might be that too; I just need stretching upwards.

Just seen this in Morrisons supermarket grin - not to my taste, but…..,,

So, I've had a shuffty on the Lagenlook sites and in the interests of trying to keep up with the times, i might buy just one item, as a nod to the the whole thing.hmm

I must admit, some of it does look like a load of cheap tat and reminds me of those dreadful tunic style waterfall tops that ladies of a certain age were wearing about 15 years ago.shock

I'm tall so hopefully an oversized top won't look too bad on me and I won't look like an extra from LhotP.
Maybe in white. To go with my trendy white trainers!

snowberryZ Wed 16-Mar-22 12:08:38

Apparently I need an oscar shirt, which is apparently well known in the Lagenlook World confused

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Mar-22 12:40:21

I still like waterfall tunics!smile

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Mar-22 12:41:19

About 15 years ago I was 35, so not of ‘a certain age’

The nearest that I get to that look is in the summer when wearing trousers of various length. Think Judy Dench and that’s the nearest I get.

To be honest, I couldn’t be faffed with all that material, it would drive me insane. So I would wear say for example a pair of white trousers with a tunic, similar to the photo but not remotely as glamorous

Lucca
Thanks.

I've ordered a stretching machine. Who knows I may be so much taller by the summer ?

I'm trying to have a low buy year, so will hang on a while.

I keep admiring this dress on the Fatface website, even though I hate dresses with flounces and it would look absolutely awful on me!

Why do so many dresses have that frill thing round the bottom of the hem now?

Sara1954 Wed 16-Mar-22 19:21:15

I don’t know that my style has changed enormously since the seventies.
I always loved velvet, cheesecloth, crinkle cotton, and always long trailing dresses, and gorgeous embroidered smock tops. We were all a bit mad on Laura Ashley as well
Then I got bit more grown up and discovered Monsoon and East, and we have a couple of really good independent shops around here.
I still like long dresses and only ever wear boots or sandals.
Obviously, my style has been greatly modified, but I’m still attracted to the same things.

Your style sounds like mine, Sara. Mine is supplemented by long jumpers and leggings in winter, but otherwise sounds very much the same.

Sara1954 Wed 16-Mar-22 22:53:24

Doodledog
Yes, I like long jumpers, sadly haven’t got the figure for leggings!

It's not the frill round the bottom, although that would be bad enough on anyone over a certain age- it's the whirring on the bodice!
Ok on my DGD but she wouldn't wear a dress anyway, not even if she got paid ?
Although I could perhaps persuade her that a bribe of a a few thousands to model it might be worth it!

My DM used to maintain that dresses with flounces were a cheapskate way of saving material and yet charging the same amount. You didn't the full length of fabric from waist to hem if you grafted a separate piece along the bottom.

Callistemon21 Wed 16-Mar-22 23:31:58

I can remember making dresses and skirts like that for my DD when they were little
And what were called RahRah skirts - tiered gathered layers

Callistemon21 Wed 16-Mar-22 23:43:39

I see autocorrect changed shirring to whirring

Blossoming Thu 17-Mar-22 00:30:07

I think I would prefer whirring ?

Grandma2213 Thu 17-Mar-22 01:59:51

I'm another one who has never heard of most of the names on here. I have discovered harem pants over the past couple of years, not as tight and clingy as leggings and they have pockets for phone and tissues. A long loose T shirt or tunic top and maybe a long cardi if it's cold. That's my wardrobe really, nice and comfortable. My tailors are Tesco, Asda and Bon Marche when I really need to buy something.

My favourite look for summer. To me JD gets it right every time, stylish modern but not a slave to fashion !

Whitewavemark2 Thu 17-Mar-22 03:13:23

Yes I love her style.
