Trends you'll be glad to see the back of and won't miss one bit.

Boxy tops with no shape.
Oversized clothes. I work hard to try and keep my waist. No ways am I hiding it in shapeless boxy tops.
Ditto oversized clothing.
High-waisted trousers. I prefer mid rise.

Bit of a contentious one but I'm sick of seeing white trainers etc everywhere. I went for a meal the other day and every woman seemed to be wearing a dress with white trainers.
So uninspiring and if your feet are larger than a size 5, white makes them look huge

What are yours?

Chewbacca I've never minded cold shoulder tops.
Especially when I read in a magazine that the shoulders is one of the few places on the body that doesn't age, they don't get wrinkles, or get saggy.
It's true when you think about it.
Hands and forearms can get wrinkly and get age spots, upper arms go a bit bingo wingy as we get older, then there's back fat.
But shoulders stay young! smile

People being weirdly judgemental about what other people do with their lives and bodies.

Uh, this is called Style & Beauty?hmm
Where people like to, yknow, discuss styles and beauty trends?

If it annoys you best to find some other topics to frequent.

FannyCornforth Wed 30-Mar-22 11:21:07

People are allowed to disagree Snowberry

Amber made a valid point.

You can’t demand agreement and tell others to sling their hook!

I’m really into style and beauty; but I can’t get riled up about what others wear.
It’s not as if there isn’t enough choice out there.

Huge puffy fake lips. The weird trend for painting on fake freckles (to look like Meghan Markle apparently)

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 11:24:59

Nobody is demanding agreement over anything.
I myself like booycuts some have said they don't.
So what? I'm not getting arsed about it.
I agree with disagreement.
What I find a bit off is when peopke come on a thread with the sole purpose of pouring scorn on it. Its basically a way of disrupting the thread

There was a thread recently about why people do this.

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 11:26:30

Its under Site Stuff

Anything with a stepped hem particularly those awful dresses short at the front and long at the back. Just having 2 blouses altered to have hems same length all round.

Painting on Freckles? shock
Didn't people used to paint on fake beauty spots years ago?

I’ve hidden that thread, along with all of the others written by that poster

I’ve done the freckle thing myself

Making loads of assumptions here, but aren't these trends often aimed at younger people though and not intended for (speaking for myself here and I assume many of the folk on Gransnet) the older generation?

My parents moaned about my clothes and music when I was a teenager, but it wasn't for them....it was for teenagers.

Perhaps it was ever thus. Ripped knees and fancy eyebrows aren't for us and never were meant to be.

Coastguard, couldn't agree more.
Trouble is the shops seem flooded with things aimed at the very young.
And its difficult to find things that aren't messed about with in some way.
I just want classic clothes that are cut well and look nice.

Mamma66 Wed 30-Mar-22 11:32:01

Ripped jeans
Slug eyebrows
Voluminous sleeves
Tattoos

FannyCornforth Wed 30-Mar-22 11:32:10

Nothing to do with Markle, I think that was just an excuse for the papers (the DM) to print another picture of Meghan

BarbieB Wed 30-Mar-22 11:32:13

What l dislike intensely, womens clothing outlets you can buy online where each model is holding her phone in front of her wearing whatever and pouting as well. ?

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 11:33:08

How times change. I can remember putting lemon juice on mine to try and fade my frecklesshock

Alioop Wed 30-Mar-22 11:36:51

Slashed jeans, I've better ones that I use for gardening and decorating.
Having sweatshirt hoods up even on boiling hot days.

Polremy Wed 30-Mar-22 11:37:35

You must be my twin. Totally agree with all those, particularly the coffee one!

Polremy Wed 30-Mar-22 11:38:17

Sorry, meant for Chewbacca. A new to this.

FannyCornforth Wed 30-Mar-22 11:39:08

I suppose the term ‘trend’ is doing some heavy lifting here.

Some of us must follow trends; while others don’t.

I think that when you are in your late 20s you should have figured out what you like and what suits you.

When the ‘trend’ for trainers and dresses disappears, I will still be wearing them.

Similarly I’m steadfastly loyal to my Uggs, my hair colour and the way I do my makeup.

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 11:40:41

This thing lately whereby online fashion retailers insist on using plus sized models to model things like leggings and sportswear.
As an average sized person I struggle to envisage how it will look on me and end up not buying anything.
I also think the clothes alook bad on models who are too skinny as well.

I wish they would use average models.

Irismarle Wed 30-Mar-22 11:43:10

Asymmetric hems on skirts which look so messy with bits hanging down when you put a coat on top. I thought they would go out of style but have now been around for ages.

I agree also about voluminous sleeves. I spent quite a bit on a Sézane cardigan with fairly wide sleeves. It is lovely but I can’t get my coats or jackets on over it as their sleeves are all too narrow. So the cardigan languishes in the wardrobe waiting for the moths to come.

Vocal fry. People, especially young women who enunciate their words with a harsh, croaky, rasping sound as if they are suffering from a throat infection. Drives me potty!

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 11:44:17

Oh yes. Fanny.
I will still wear skinny jeans wirh boots in winter. Even if its not on trend anymore.
Because it suits me.
Trainers with dresses I will be binning. Mainly because I don't like the way it looks (appreciate that others like it)
Also because trainers are too got on my feet on a warm summers day.
And I don't like hot feet.

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 11:44:54

too hotgrin

FannyCornforth Wed 30-Mar-22 11:46:28

Glasgo oh yes! Not many people have heard of this (I know I had to look it up a couple of years back)

They go particularly weird at the end of sentences, as if they’ve run out of air.

I'm intrigued.
How do you mean? Can we have an example?
