Trends you'll be glad to see the back of and won't miss one bit.

Boxy tops with no shape.
Oversized clothes. I work hard to try and keep my waist. No ways am I hiding it in shapeless boxy tops.
Ditto oversized clothing.
High-waisted trousers. I prefer mid rise.

Bit of a contentious one but I'm sick of seeing white trainers etc everywhere. I went for a meal the other day and every woman seemed to be wearing a dress with white trainers.
So uninspiring and if your feet are larger than a size 5, white makes them look huge

What are yours?

FannyCornforth Wed 30-Mar-22 11:49:15

My feet get really uncomfortable in sandals. They get all sweaty and slippery.
I acknowledge that I am quite a sweaty person. I am very heat intolerant, so it must be my body trying to regulate its temperature.
I bloody hate Summer

Cold shoulder tops and dresses, jeans with huge rips in them, slug eyebrows, lip fillers, botoxed 22 year olds, arm candy designer dogs as a fashion accessory& not a loved pet, false eyelashes that look like tarantulas. The words she/her at the end of someone’s title or social media handle. Nose rings like a bull would have.

You can’t be serious. Jeans with rips and holes look ridiculous on anyone over 21 ???‍♀️

harrigran Wed 30-Mar-22 11:52:17

I am all in favour of trainers, I have such painful feet that ordinary shoes are too uncomfortable to wear.
Bootcut jeans have never been out of fashion, I have always been able to buy them in M&S.

I love everything you hate, Snowberry because that's what's on trend now. Just because we're grannies it doesn't mean we can't be up to date. I'm glad I've still got the face and shape to still wear clothes that are fashionable.

Missiseff Wed 30-Mar-22 11:57:15

I love white trainers with dresses

Nannina Wed 30-Mar-22 11:57:28

Young men wearing their trousers with the crutch round their knees and waistband below hips exposing their pants. I don’t know how they keep them up! Remind me of toddlers with an overfull nappy

timetogo2016 Wed 30-Mar-22 11:58:57

Caterpillar eye brows and cod face lips.

Doglessfornow Wed 30-Mar-22 11:59:11

Older people, especially women, in baseball caps.
Baseball caps worn sideways or back to front.
People who push shopping trolleys with their elbows!

jaylucy Wed 30-Mar-22 12:04:09

People whingeing that they don't like a certain style of clothing when these days, there is no need to actually wear it!
30 or 40 years ago, if something was classed as "fashionable" that was all that you could buy, whether you actually liked, or suited it or not!
Now it doesn't matter so much what you wear - it's more a case of what either suits you, or what you feel comfortable in!
Mind you, anything in that 1980s emerald green needs to be hidden and forgotten for good!

Nannapat1 Wed 30-Mar-22 12:06:39

I hate 'wokery' too but as I've NOT worked at keeping my waistline neat, I'm rather fond of boxy shapes and loose fitting clothes, whether or not they are currently on trend.

Lulubelle500 Wed 30-Mar-22 12:09:05

Low slung trousers for boys are long gone now Nannina! It's all skinny jeans now.

Nannan2 Wed 30-Mar-22 12:09:55

People making a 'thing' out of something that really isn't! ??

Trust me, I don't believe in dressing my age either.
But there are some things that definitely dontt look good on a 50 plus woman
Cropped tops for one.

For me it's heavy white soles on lumpy trainers. I used to be able to buy attractive, normal sized trainers with matching or toning soles the same width as my shoe. I don't want to clump around in boat sized shoes with grubby white bases. Nor do I want heels which stick out backwards such a long way that they catch on steps on my way down the stairs.
I used to buy Ecco but even they all seem to have white soles now, or be really awful "granny" styles with rounded toes.

FannyCornforth Wed 30-Mar-22 12:14:51

jaylucy I agree with everything that you’ve said; including your opinion on Wordle Green smile

Caterpillar eye brows and cod face lips.

I hate this too. I do worry if the fish-faced women are condemning themselves to having to permanently use these fillers. So ugly in my opinion.
And the eyebrows are just awful. At least if they're drawn in they can be removed but so many are too dark, too thick and too permanent

winterwhite Wed 30-Mar-22 12:19:26

Ripped jeans and trainers with dresses on people over 30 remind me of the expression mutton dressed on lamb.

And though not a 'trend', beige-coloured anything.

rockgran Wed 30-Mar-22 12:19:35

The front tuck. One shoulder bared. Extra long sleeves. I've just realised that I could go on for ever so will stop now! hmm

Glasgo Wed 30-Mar-22 12:20:07

Not one particular example snowberryZ. But if you listen to any reality/quiz show with young women taking part you will recognise it. My daughter informed me it is called vocal fry and originated in America.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 30-Mar-22 12:20:53

I don't follow trends any more but I'll be glad to see the back of stilletto heels for good - I believe some women still wear them, I'm a trainer gal myself.

What about torn trousers with enormous ripped holes in them? T'other day I saw some which was almost more hole than trouser leg. Inelegant to say the least.

Whiterabbit1956 Wed 30-Mar-22 12:22:10

1) ... Painted on eye brows
2) ... pierced lips and tongues
3) ... female celebrities wearing almost nothing
4) ... people who only wear a piece of clothing once (is this one allowed?)
5) ... high heeled shoes with stilettos (especially when they walk on my oak floors).
6) ... large breast implants
7) ... New jeans with frayed bits and holes in them

snowberryZ Wed 30-Mar-22 12:22:55

Ah so this is Vocal Fry.
Would be easier to do with an American accent

Heavy eyebrows! So very ugly. They take away from the pretty face and lovely eyes. Tattoos. Am longing to see uninked skin! People go around looking like they’ve escaped from kindergarten.

Mallin Wed 30-Mar-22 12:33:45

I have size 12 legs and thighs. So wear tight fitting trousers with a baggy top which hides my size 20 upper figure.
