Anyone know where I can get a good bra for keeping my boobs out front and not in my armpits?
I don't really like underwire bras but will try one if it's going to work.

I went to bravissimo. Turned out was wearing the wrong size. So difficult when you have an 'ample' bosom!! Went from 38D to 34 G. What a difference

Amazonia, just been on the boob or bust website and done the measurements. Instead of my usual 38B it tells me I should be wearing a 30GG!!! No way would that cup size fit me - su[pose I could always use it to keep my packed lunch safe.

Ah, what you don't realise is that the volume of the cup is proportional to the band size. So, the volume of a 36C is the same as the volume of a 34D. Try the suggested size, you might be very pleasantly surprised!

M&S gave me totally the wrong size. Bravissimo are brilliant. My friend went to Rigby and Peller and they don’t measure, just look at you and come up with what fits. Sadly ,since I had a mastectomy ,I can only wear bras with a pocket . So it’s a bit hit and miss buying online. I was thinking of writing to Bravissimo and Rigby and Peller and suggesting that they charge a bit extra to sew in a pocket for mastectomy customers. And you also don’t pay vat on mastectomy bras so it would even out the price.

Agree with all those who say boob or. Bust
M and S do not measure well, so many problems including wires popping out can be solved with a properly fitting bra
What suuts one will not suit a,ither. Bravissimi yrs also if there is one near you Rugby and Peller. Yes they are expensive but honestly the brands they stock really last a lot longer than cheaper one's both because they fit you well and because they are well made
If you go at sale time you will get good bargains that's what I did. And ho one of them was such a beautiful one that it made me happy and I felt really special wearing it. The others were lovely too
The knickers were both reduced and 3 for the price of 2. I'd never paid full.price but again I we're them.when I'm going out or I feel like a but of.a pick me.up. Never ever felt like that about undies in my life before then

This is a great website for explaining how to measure yourself . If you have Facebook you can get advice on bra fitting too

I discovered Anita bras a few years ago. I particularly like the Jana one which is non wired, very supportive and high cotton content. They are expensive and sizing is a bit different. I bought five in total at beginning of first lockdown and they're still going strong. When I first ordered one I sent off for a few different sizes for fitting. They are not particularly pretty but first bras I've had that are truly comfortable.

I believe in underwire! As we say here in the American West you do need something to "round 'em up and had 'em out!" LOL

I go to a local specialist and get fitted and then sometimes even get things from department stores or on the Internet. Champion sport bras have been a favorite of mine in the past.

For those of you with a drawer full of unwearable bras, there is a fantastic Scottish charity called "SMALLS FOR ALL". They send bras, in decent condition, to adults and children in need in Africa and the UK. Any that are beyond decent can be sold for rags/scrap. You can also donate money to them.
Just Google to read about their fantastic work.

I've ditched the bra, well, almost. At home. If I'm going out I might wear one or a camisole top under a t-shirt or dress.

crazyH Thu 28-Jul-22 19:05:18

I only wear a bra if I’m going out. Never, at home. It’s too uncomfortable

Bluedaisy Thu 28-Jul-22 19:03:33

I find you can’t beat Prima Donna bras.

Nanascats Thu 28-Jul-22 17:44:27

You can self size or get help with sizing at Bravissimo on line.
Their bra's are really comfortable and the company is very helpful. I bought from their shop in London 9 years ago when I thought I was as a 36 D but I'm a 34 F. So the fuller cup takes everything in! As I live in Scotland I buy on line now and if the bra shape/style is not right for you, they have no qualms about sending back. Hope this is helpful.

I have a draw full of badly fitting bras, when I do occasionally manage to get a couple that fit well I wear them to death. We had a little independent lingerie shop in our town the lady was brilliant at measuring and fitting accurately and getting you all set up with a great selection in the right size. Especially good if you had a special occasion like a wedding and wanted your underwear to be spot on. Unfortunately she retired a few years ago and the shop has now closed. Not many like that around now, I guess they can’t compete with the likes of M&S and the big supermarkets.

On the subject of sheepdog bras, it was always funny when we turned up at school Monday morning and one of the girls had obviously been out & brought such a bra over the weekend, we’d be whispering ‘ooh hasn't Linda gone up in the world over the weekend’ tittering away to ourselves. By the following weekend we’d be begging our mums to take us into town to buy us a bra just like Linda’s!

I’m a fan of Boob or Bust - website or Facebook page. Went from 40C (fitted by M&S) to 36FF and no side or back bulges. Never had the gore flat to my chest before! NB an FF cup is much smaller on a 36 band than it would be on a 40 band.

DutchDoll Thu 28-Jul-22 15:37:23

Anita Jana comfort support bra
5427 is tthe best one that I've found . 44E or 44DD!

Beautful Thu 28-Jul-22 15:17:49

I would make an appoinment for a bra fitting. I had my first bra fitting when my daughter was getting married ... surprising how you think you bra fits but doesn't, completely different size altogether

pen50 Thu 28-Jul-22 15:12:52

There's a Reddit site called A Bra That Fits which gives you detailed instructions for measuring yourself. Suffice to say that I went from 38B to 34DD and things look much better!

Gabrielle56 Thu 28-Jul-22 14:50:33

We always used to say that old ladies wear salvation army bras-they uplift the fallen!
I've always worn wired bras , they give great structure and support .in my heyday I was a normal 36B now I'm a mahoosive 40DD/E depending on make, I was always in proportion and had a neat slender figure nothing special but Why do we need the enormous tilers nailbags that appear in older age?!? Neither use nor ornament and make all my clothes look frumpy ,hence the wired catchnets! Wires do not cause issues or dig in if you are wearing the correct size, just don't be tight and spend some dosh getting measured and I don't mean the amateurs at M &S- For the first fitting.once sorted great bras can be bought at Asda or Tesco!

grandtanteJE65 Thu 28-Jul-22 14:17:33

Unless you have mobility issues, your best bet is not to ask or take our advice, but go along to any shop that offers personal service and have yourself measured and fitted with a bra that solves your problem.

This may be expensive, but after all, you need only buy one bra there, and can probably find the same make and model online afterwards once you know what works.

amazonia Thu 28-Jul-22 14:08:58

@MaggMcG sounds like you're in the wrong shape bra. I can't wear a plunge bra for that reason. I have to have a higher gore so that they are safely contained!!

Coco51 Thu 28-Jul-22 14:08:03

Then there was the bloke standing behind an old lady at a bus stop and says ‘Show us yer tits’ - so she lifts up her skirt!

amazonia Thu 28-Jul-22 14:05:53

@knspol. If you can get a tape measure round your ribcage to measure 30" then you are about a 30" band size. A 38B cup size is about the same cup size as a 30F. If you are spilling out of a 38B then you will need at least a size or 2 bigger in the cup, so that takes you to a 30G bra size. Does that make sense. A 30G cup really isn't that big. It's not like a 38G which is much much bigger. I'm a 30G with a dress size 12 frame. Get to a proper bra shop and try on a few. You'll be really surprised. A proper fitted band will feel very strange and tight to start with but your boobs will thank you.

Coco51 Thu 28-Jul-22 14:04:07

Triumph’s Doreen are marvellous. I had to stop wearing them because arthritis in my shoulders does not allow me to wear baack fastening bras - so now my boobs point sideways rather than out front!

knspol Thu 28-Jul-22 13:31:53

Forgive me... my sense of humour has got the better if me - I'm not laughing at anyone's comments in the slightest. I can totally empathise as my boobs have gone west too!

The post strangely brought to mind a video clip about boobs but not bras.

Here are the lyrics to a song by Rodney Carrington. "Show them to Me"
(Google it for the video clip which is hilarious)

^Oh it seems to me this whole world's gone crazy
There's too much hate and killin goin on
But when I see the bare chest of a woman
My worrys and my problems are all gone
No one thinks of fightin, when they see a topless girl
Baby if you would show yours too, we could save the world
Show them to me, show them to me
Unclasp your bra and set those puppies free
They'd look a whole lot better without that sweater baby I'm sure you'll agree
If you got, two fun bags,
Show them to me
I don't care if they don't match or ones bigger than the other
You could show me one, and I'll imagine the other
Even if you're really old, theres nothing wrong
Don't be sad your boobs ain't bad, they're just a little long
Show them to me, show them to me
Lift up your shirt and let the whole world see
Just disrobe, show your globes and a happy man I'll be
If you got, dos chichi's,
Show them to me
I've met a lot of them, but never one I've hated
Even if you've had thirteen kids and you think they look deflated
Theres no such thing as a bad breast, I believe this much is true
If you're a big fat man I'm a titty fan and I'd love to see yours too...
Show them to me, show them to me
Just like the girls gone wild on T.V.
Just lean back and show your rack and I'll be in ecstasy
If you got two casabas
Show them to me
All the world will live in harmony
It'll do you good, it'll give me wood, we'll make history
If you love your country, I'm gonna say it one more time,
I said if you love your country yeah
Then stand your ass up and show them big old titties to me^
