Has M&S lingerie lost the plot?

I've just been to M&S to top up my underwear and was horrified to find mountains of multipacks of bras - with colours that will surely end up in landfill. Not a navy bra to be had (my preferred go-to colour) Their 'new' high leg knickers - my standard for years - are made of the thinnest fabric going! I'm distraught. Where do you buy your underwear? I am in need of guidance to a new decent lingerie shop - after 69 year loyal M&S knicker wearing.

I bought bra tops (pull-ons, no wires, not expensive but well-made) and knickers recently from M&S. Really impressed with their "Good Move" sports bras in green and black and one called "Body Body" in dark red. (Pulled the padding out and chucked it but if anyone can think of any good uses for unwanted bra pads, please let me know).

Seven pairs of good quality plain black cotton knickers for £8 seemed like a bargain too.

Maybe you looked in the wrong places, CvD ?

Hi Baggs, they could be glued inside the heels of wellies to stop rubbing. or if unseen when worn, stitched to the top of bra straps at the bit they cut in to shoulders.

Thanks, Baggytrazzas. Good ideas but I guess I've been lucky cos never had heel rubbing wellies (and I spend a good amount of time in wellies), nor have I ever had bra straps that dig into my shoulders.

Someone else might find those suggestions useful though ?

Just ordered some more of the M & S crop tops I mentioned. They are much reduced. Been wearing one today and it has been so comfortable and actually fits and isn't too loose or too tight or anything. Great for the activities I engage in.

The colour is called raspberry, which is fine as I mainly live in mid to darkish coloured tee-shirts.

I have M and S bras from an Ebay seller who sells discontinued lines. I have some of their non-wired non-padded bras with broad straps that don't slip off my narrow shoulders, a style I have liked for years. They wash and wear very well.

I have a friend who always buys from Matalan. I buy my bras from Fantasie as they are a good fit on me and I always wear nude colour as it does not show through.

I now Live in Ireland and now get mine online at dunnes.ie they are as good as M and S used to be, I get the essential range, I'm sure they deliver outside of here, I used to order clothes for my grandchildren to be sent to the UK, when they were younger

Tesco, great for pretty cotton underwired bras and nice knickers too. Even better when they have 25% off smile

OH DEAR, I just read your posts, I am waiting for a delivery of undies from M & S. I am disabled/housebound so have to order online. Now I am hoping that the order will be acceptable.

I used to buy all my bras from M&S. They probably fall into the category being decried on here, push-up, padded, plunge. They weren't cheap either. But the style was exactly what I liked. Discontinued.

I have been in M&S twice in the last month. A big branch. Neither had anything near the style I like that they previously sold.

Went tp M&S three weeks ago for bras and knickers, bought no knickers, even Asdas were better quality. The clothes were made of very poor materals and did not cater for anyone over 30!

Try EBay for m&s returned items!

Two or three years ago I bought some underpants from M&S for my husband. He complained that the only way they felt comfortable was by wearing them back to front.... none of the previous brands he liked seemed to be available

I recently bought two new bras from M & S in a larger size. When I put one on it felt just like the smaller size so I compared new and old and they were the same measurement.
Annoying.

Being housebound I have no choice but buy on line. For many years I have bought underwear etc from Ambrose Wilson. The last pack of panties the trim started to unravel, I found some similar ones, cheaper, on Amazon and they have lasted longer.

Linda65 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:14:04

As I am very curvy I bought my last bra from bravissimo and they have a great selection. John Lewis not too bad and you can find some that are not expensive. I gave up on M&S a while ago as the sizings were strange!!

Linda65 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:17:14

Can I also add that M&S use Evri who used to be Hermes for their deliveries and my friends and neighbours have been experiencing a lot of issues. Apparently this is not an isolated experience if the reviews are to be believed!

AdeleJay Wed 17-Aug-22 12:19:14

I find M&S horribly frustrating. I like to buy a pretty set occasionally but they are very ‘tarty’ looking in my opinion. Have zero idea what to use for everyday. Their plain packs of bras always have white or pale beige which look grubby so quickly. And the knickers are just the luck of the draw

Otis Wed 17-Aug-22 12:27:00

I buy my bras from Sainsbury's, have done for several years now. They aren't expensive, fit well and last for ages.

NotANana Wed 17-Aug-22 12:27:38

I have found that I buy a pack of knickers in M&S after much searching etc.
I wear them, and then decide to get some more because I like them. And can I remember what sort they were? High-leg...shorts...full...bikini...brazilian...Not A Clue.
(I think I'd notice if they were thongs...alas, my thong-wearing days are behind me in all senses)
The labels aren't any help, either.
So I start the whole rigmarole all over again.

GranJan60 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:32:21

M&S knickers are awful - so thin and don’t last. Not sustainable to keep buying.so often. If they have to be multipacks, put in less or charge a bit more for decent quality. Would be good to have more midi type ones in cotton or cotton blends too.
Have been loyal customer for years but shop less and less there now even though I’d like to - they don’t cater for older women but seem keen to attract younger customers who don’t shop there.

Treetops05 Wed 17-Aug-22 12:57:15

Thanks for the post, they still had my favourite t-shirt bra, previous one worn to death...and unavailable locally. In fact I was told it was discontinued, only to find it online. It also said they had 48 navy bras

LindaJ Wed 17-Aug-22 13:07:56

On the M&S app search for bras then filter the colour to Navy and you get the choice of 48 different navy coloured bras!

Nannashirlz Wed 17-Aug-22 13:22:18

I’ve actually got some really nice ones from sainsburys and Tesco’s and they wash really well. So much so I’ve bought a few times now even for my grandkids and one of my daughter inlaws said she was shocked on quality for a supermarket In fact I’ve just tossed out some expensive ones because they were falling to bits after a few washers. I paid £18 for two pairs sainsburys I paid £6.50 for 5 stopped buying marks a while ago because of quality.
