My dear grandma, never cut her hair and it and it was down to her waist, so I suppose sometimes she must have trimmed it or it woukd have been down to the floor.it was put up every morning into a low chignon. It doesn’t seem fashionable to let older people to have such long hair these days, mine rests in my shoulder and I will have a few inches off next week. How long would you go?

Short short short for me. Can’t bear my hair long. I shall be battering on my hairdressers door tomorrow as I’m getting to look quite shaggy!!

Ah now your talking netflixfan, I’ve just bought some purple and blue/black. I can’t decide which one to go for this time though. I’ve had it every colour of the rainbow before now but this will be the first time I’ve dyed it for about 8 years.

Yes, go for it SolitarySpirit! If anyone thinks I look witchy, too bad. Must get a pointy black hat. I have the besom broom already and plenty of black clothes. We could form a coven.

I just saw your post boheminan
I had very long hair until a couple of years ago that I wore in a clip. I dreaded getting it cut because it felt so thin. I was very, very surprised when I did have it cut to just above my shoulders just how thick it actually was! My hairdresser always remarks on the thickness of it now.

Farzanah Wed 07-Sept-22 18:31:34

Count me in too GSM.

SolitarySpirit Wed 07-Sept-22 18:49:58

I have my broom by my front door so most think I’m a witch regardless Germanshepherdsmum, I say we go for it. Being normal is hugely overrated anyway! ?

My Gt Grandmother had long hair till she died aged 87. She would tie a ribbon around her head and tuck her hair up into it, styling a neat roll encircling her head. So neat and practical. I don't think she ever visited a hairdresser.

Thank you, Farzanah. This site has not come up on my searches for some reason but looks promising.

Delighted to see this post - decision time here. My hair is thick and curly and grows fast. Another month and I'll be able to pin it up but it's inbetween now and I don't like it at all. After gardening I look like a wild woman. Not happy with my hairdresser of about 20 years. The salon is local, reasonably priced and I begrudge spending a lot on my hair because I wash it and leave it - don't even have a hairdryer. Do I have the patience for another 4 to 6 weeks? confused

seadragon Wed 07-Sept-22 19:30:55

Thank you, Solitary spirit. I have been Googling but without success till now, apart from some sites which were way beyond my budget. Am exploring Farzanah's suggestion.

Well, we’ve got ourselves a coven, ladies! Hubble bubble!

Chocolatelovinggran and NotToOld thankyou. smile

That looks lovely, Norah. I also have a bob just a bit below chin length. In lockdown I couldn’t get it coloured and now I really like it as it is a creamy white, similar to platinum blonde.

sharonarnott Wed 07-Sept-22 21:06:41

I'm a few months away from 60 and my hair is down to my waist! I'll wear it at whatever length I feel comfortable with, my husband hated it when I had a shoulder length bob 6 or 7 years ago. I often ask my hairdresser if she thinks I need to go shorter and at present her response is no way. ?

Mirren Wed 07-Sept-22 21:23:33

Mine is the neat Bob it's been for decades . It is silver / grey rather than dark brown now .
I have plenty of hair but it's straight and fine so hard to let grow long and I do not suit short .
I like it as it is ... except that I am Mother of the Bride next May and I know my hair won't support any type of decorative " do" ☹️

It’s an interesting subject…..and there are many opinions on this subject. These are my thoughts…..a stylish woman in her 50 ‘s and maybe into her early 60 ‘s with shoulder length hair can look really good if she takes pride in the condition of her hair and doesn't mind investing in a good cut. But women in their mid to late 60’s and onwards into their 70 need to give serious thought to changing their style ……why? …….so often it’s thinning hair and there’s no disguising that long hair is just so ageing and unflattering with wrinkles and sagging jawlines …..whether it’s grey, salt and pepper or dyed blonde!

Lovetopaint037 Wed 07-Sept-22 22:57:35

Any length I am happy with. I only have a small area of grey hair close to one ear which is hardly noticeable. I decided when I was eighty that I would please myself from then on. I also learnt to say “no” which I found liberating and “I am not up to it anymore”. Amazing how readily the change was accepted.

DutchDoll Wed 07-Sept-22 23:02:00

Mine is just above jaw length. It's pure white and I use White Hot Hair Glorious Shampoo and their conditioner too. I have my husband's hair and my hair cut every 6 weeks by a wonderful mobile hairdresser who only charges us £29 (for us both, not each!) How lucky are we! All the salons here in Hampshire are twice that just for me!

merlotgran Wed 07-Sept-22 23:05:31

This is the length of mine. I try not to go beyond six weeks before having another trim but it does hold its shape quite well.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 08-Sept-22 08:28:48

Lovely hair, merlotgran.

Diane7 Thu 08-Sept-22 10:17:04

Not quite 70 but nearly there! Short and spiky, usually with dangly earrings ? My hair isn't totally grey yet.

Farzanah Thu 08-Sept-22 11:29:24

What amazing hair merlot but……regular posters please don’t post any more pics. A : you’re making me jealous, and B: you’re ruining my mental pic of how you look. I had you down as dark haired merlot shock

Thank you. Not my head, I'm never sure how to insert a camera photo. I found the internet picture my stylist used for the balayage. It actually looks quite the same. I'm always happy with the cut and color.

Athrawes Thu 08-Sept-22 12:28:15

I used to have cropped hair with purple streaks from time to time. Now I'm in my 70's I'm growing it but only to chin length so I can look better in hats!

SolitarySpirit Fri 09-Sept-22 06:23:34

Well I went for it! Back to Raven Black after trying to ‘go grey gracefully’, never again. I had jet black hair naturally when I was younger so it feels like coming home. ?
