For some random reason my social media has decided to shower me with postings about pre-loved mothers of brides outfits. Not having attended a wedding for many years I am astounded by the fashions. It appears mothers are outdoing their daughters for being the focus of attention. Dresses in orange, magenta, and extremely bold patterns accompanied in every case by a hat as big as a cartwheel which I have never seen worn elsewhere, well maybe by a few at Ascot races. Most dresses seem to come from a few fashion houses with Italian sounding names and at eye watering costs! I do not disapprove but it looks like almost a prescribed uniform. Is this a general thing or not?

Hello girl, you should look at the pre loved Facebook group previously mentioned. Lots of larger, shorterladies asking for advice and giving suggestions.

Well my DS is getting married in May. I have bought an expensive dress and fascinator. I will get myself all dolled up and feel super duper special on the day. The bride is wearing a beautiful dress. My DDs are bridesmaids and my DGDs are flower girls, all in gorgeous dresses. The MoB will look stunning. My DH and my son will be all dressed up as will my DGS as a pageboy. I have no intention of being left out. Yes, my dress cost me pounds and pounds more than I would normally pay, but I have only one son and I want to feel totally special on his day. And afterwards, I will sell the outfit to recoup some of the cost and help someone else feel really special and different. And NO I won't look like a dog's dinner or a pantomime dame. But I will look and feel the best I possibly can.

When my son was married a year ago, everyone wore facinators or hats.
It wasn't an over the top wedding, but that tends to be the style at all the weddings we have attended.

My cousin's friend liked my hat so much, I gave it to her at the wedding, for a forthcoming wedding she was attending. I didn't want it back, I don't really suit them!

My dress cost £5 as a Manager's special in an M&S outlet. I had spotted it before Lockdown and couldn't resist it, putting it away for a special occasion, just in case. I got so many compliments. Guests thought I had spent a fortune on it.
I had hoped to wear it at my daughter's wedding, but it was cancelled due to Lockdown. She ended up getting married in our garden, a simple affair, so the dress would have been too much.
