Joanna Lumley has said more than once she cuts and dyes her own hair and just uses Astral as her face cream. I wonder what hair colour she uses, does anyone know, plus even hairdressers don’t cut their own hair so how does she do it? When I tried Astral cream I thought how thick it was, that it didn’t sink in and left my skin greasy looking.
I don’t know why I started thinking about it, but it is annoying how she looks so good with so little maintenance. Wish I did.

It’s interesting that if you like someone you don’t know, like a celeb, you’ll believe what they say.I’m neutral about JL and don’t believe it at all. She has obvs had work done on her face so will have her hair cut and styled and use expensive face creams.Astral is prob good for taking off make up.
In between hair appointments she may trim bits like most of us do.
Oreo I am totally ambivalent about La Lumley, but I really don’t think that she is a serial liar.
Her hair looks home dyed and cut as well (it looks a bit like mine - a mess, and I do the same).
She has also openly admitted to having Botox and fillers.
I think she probably does chop her hair, but also has stylists for each shoot. It never looks very healthy or glossy because I imagine she's colouring it very regularly.. but she's an amazing looking woman for 76
I also cut my own hair, I learnt with a YouTube tutorial
It's very curly though so I can get away with it and wouldn't dare with straight hair
Ooh, VS, do you know which one?
My hair is curly too. I just grab bits and snip away
Argh that's a big responsibility!
Absolutely love this guy and he does the cut here

I only take a little off when I do mine then tidy it up at the sides
Thank you, that’s great. I’ll watch it later 😊
My hair is much longer than this, so the layers come out much longer. I wouldn't be brave enough for it to be as short as the layers are on the dummy
Cutting you own straight hair would be a nightmare.Only poss if it’s long and you can see what u r doing.
Brassy bleached hair is very ageing especially in your 70's - neither is it particularly flattering! At the risk of inflaming the anti-royalists, I think Camilla's carefully balayaged creamy shade is much more flattering..
I had a good look at lots of pix.
It's the work done on her face that makes the difference. She's got a good face structure so with collagen/botox wouldn't need actual face lift? her neck is really good - I think thats exercise. (yes there is yoga et al for face) And I bet good quality cleaners and serums et not just Astral.
She also is usually beautifully made up!
People are right about her hair, looks as if it needs some TLC attention.
Oh..and her teeth are fab. That doesn't come cheaply unless you are incredibly fortunate.
I cut my hair during lockdown it was fine.
My Dh put 'nice and easy' colour on also during lockdown and now has got the the job permanently.
I have always cut my fringe as I am very fussy re the length.
I was agreat fan of the Purdy cut back in the day.
And I bet good quality cleaners and serums et not just Astral
She may use Astral occasionally to make sure she's not fibbing 😀 but such thick creams can easily 'drag' the skin and cause more problems.

Ab Fab 😁
My mum always used Astral every night taking off her foundation she never had a wrinkle and her skin was like a babies bottom until the day she sadly died.
JL has always been an inspiration from her Purdy cut to date she always looks good.
My DD has been on TV taking part in various shows and does say that the make up people can work wonders with both hair and face and I can vouch for that as she is not someone who spends a lot of time in front of a mirror!! She did a show when covid rules were being relaxed a bit but had to more or less do her own thing due to a big reduction in staffing numbers.
I'm wondering why I'd never investigated Astral before, just a product I'd passed by in Boots, now given the testaments here, I think I'll give it a go.
On the subject of Boots and skin products, and slightly off topic from Joanna's hair, there was an article in The Times Weekend magazine yesterday reviewing the new "miracle" serum, "Damage Reversal" launched by No 7 which crashed their website allegedly. The reviewers conclusion "for once this justifies the hullabaloo surrounding it" So I'll be hotfooting it down to Boots in the next week to see if they have still in store and pick up a jar of Astral at the same time!.

I recently found Neutrogena Hydroboost for droopy eyelids, and rather to my surprise after having used it for a week I can actually see some difference. I think I'll also have a look at Damage Reversal..
I think good skin (no wrinkles) is a lot to do with genes. I use any cream that’s on offer and mine isn’t too bad, like Mum’s. I can well believe JL cuts and colours her own hair but she looks good anyway. I always like her clothes which she says are ancient!
My sister got that 'miracle serum' from Boots yesterday. She said they had loads of it and no one grabbing it despite press reports of queuing.
I am fortunate that at nearly 74, I have no wrinkles on my face. My arms however could definitely do with a miracle.
There’s a programme on Channel 5, 9pm, tonight, Sunday, Joanna Lumley talking about her life.
We can all have another look at her hair and face.
I read many years ago that actresses can claim tax rebates for beauty products used when they perform, so in interviews they always say they only use the most basic of products: cold cream, touch of lip gloss, wash their hair in detergent and trim it themselves. As if!
Don't know if the same applies to actors.

Lucky you, no facial wrinkles.
My whole body would benefit from a spray starch and intense ironing.
Now there’s good business idea. Adjoining body ironing/spray tan/ makeup artist salon for those special occasions. 😂
Thanks for the heads up on the Nuetrogena Hydroboost pascal 130, although I've managed to escape being wrinkled of face, sometimes it does startle me when I notice there are a few on my neck. I have also noticed my eyes disappearing into my head somewhat, remembering they were larger in my youth. However, whilst we can't push back on the effects of the passage of time, if there's anything out there to alleviate it somewhat, I'll give it a go. My mission next week will be to look out for these various recommendations on a visit to Boots.
