How many perfumes do you have?

Just to start a light-hearted conversation, how may fragrances are on your shelf, and do you wear them all?

I have only a few.

White Tea by Elizabeth Arden - it's my go to daily spritz, I wear it every day, even on days home.
Shiseido Zen Secret Bloom - this is my evening fragrance. My first real fragrance was the original Zen, but they stopped making it, and this is a similar but more floral version.
Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt - I have a tiny travel size sample that I toss in for travelling, but I find it fades quickly.

I think I've only ever had 2 full size bottles on the go, and switch up a travel size when I find something interesting. I will try a different daily light scent when I finish a bottle, but my evening scent will last for years.

Some women I know have a real collection of fragrances, some others only ever have one. Yours?

Me too

Both my current perfumes were gifts from my daughter who is now a chemist but when she was a student she did a course with a French perfumier (I forget the name) but she has a great nose and can tell what perfume I'm wearing every time.
My special occasion and when I feel in need of a boost is Chanel's Coco.
My other, more daytime wear, is Miracle by Lancome but I don't wear perfume every day any more.
The last bottle emptied was L'Air Du Temps.

I have several perfumes - 2 Burren Perfumery ones Ilaun and Winter. The first I wear in Spring and the latter as the name suggests in Winter. I have Paul Smith Roses which I wear in the summer. But wear Tom Ford Neroli Portofino anytime of year and also also Geo F Trumper Extract of Limes which is a cologne for men but very lovely! Also have some Ghost and a box of trial size Penhaligon perfumes which I tend to take on holiday. As previous commentators have said perfumes smell different on different people and are very personal.

Most perfumes react badly on my skin. Those with musk just stink. The only perfume which had everyone mention favourably was withdrawn some 40 yrs back. But the men’s Brute? That changes when on my skin. Very attractive and nothing like it is on men.

I'm also a Jo Malone fan.

They are designed to be layered in any combination so I have been slowly building up my collection of 30ml bottles that I use everyday. I don't have a set combination, just whatever takes my fancy. It's taken me a few years to decide which ones I like the best (definitely the floral based ones) and I'm going to ask for one more for Christmas and then I'll have six different fragrances that I'll probably keep replenishing.

Sometimes I'll use three together if I'm going out somewhere special. I don't find they fade but maybe that's because I use more than one at the same time.

I'm often complimented on the fragrance but the downside is I'm unable to recall which combination I've used on any given occasion!!

So far I have English Pear and Freesia, Peony and Suede Blush, Honeysuckle and Davana, Mimosa and Cardomom and Poppy and Barley.

I have three on the go, I love perfume & like others wear it everyday. I like to try new fragrances but usually drift back to old favourites. Current ones are:
Organza
J’Adore
Poison Girl EDT
I also love Lancôme La Vie est Belle & Coco Chanel.

Just the one. Too expensive for more. Tom Ford Rose de Chine. 😁

One - which I have used since a young woman - Miss Dior.

They actually changed it some years ago which annoyed me, but I now like it and continue to use it.

Secondwind Sat 22-Jul-23 07:05:31

None. I’ve not worn perfume since I was a young woman.

Molecule 01. I can’t smell it and neither can my husband, but that’s a good thing as he can’t stand perfume. So how do I know it exists? Because I get so many compliments when I wear it, often people recognising what it is. It is not available everywhere but it is sold by Liberty of London, and can also be bought on line, about £95 per 100ml.

I’m a perfume lover, and TBH, a perfume snob. I’ve been scouting for a new summer fragrance and sampled a few M&S perfumes last week and was impressed. Came across this in research ..
melissajanelee.com/marks-and-spencer-perfume-dupes/
I was also impressed with Body Shop Blue Musk Zest which is the winner - along with M&S Pink Pepper.
My winter perfume is usually Mitsouko but I’m lusting after Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady and feel a treat coming on. As they say, I’m worth it!

NotSpaghetti Sat 22-Jul-23 10:09:42

Bossyrossy why do you wear it if you can't smell it? That sort of defeats the object for me.
I'm just curious.

I do love Molecule and (as said earlier) have worn it since its inception but I would certainly stop if I couldn't smell it.

NotSpaghetti Sat 22-Jul-23 10:10:30

BtW. Not the newer Molecule fragrances.

Nonny Sat 22-Jul-23 11:20:09

I have used Diorissimo since I was 20. It isn't always easy to find these days. I also use Anais Anais!

debsf1 Sat 22-Jul-23 11:23:17

Oh dear. I have so many! Flowerbomb (2 different versions), La Vie est Belle (4 different versions), Chanel Coco, Black Opium, Obsession, Assaro Wanted, YSL Elle and lots more as I can never make my mind up as to which is my absolute favourite. I think I’m making up for lost years, my late husband was unable to tolerate anything perfumed due to a rare form of migraines so wearing anything perfumed was a big no, and going out was a nightmare..

Gransey Sat 22-Jul-23 11:26:20

Kathmaggie

Dioressence is the only perfume I wore in the 1980’s and still adore today. Other perfumes from my past I don’t like anymore

Is it still available? I would dearly love some, thank you for the inspiration Kathmaggie, another one to check out at the Duty free?

Bossyrossy Sat 22-Jul-23 12:17:49

Notspaghetti, I guess I wear Molecule 01 for the benefit of others, they certainly tell me how lovely it smells. I agree about the newer versions not being as good, I stick to the original.

melp1 Sat 22-Jul-23 12:21:55

Angel by Theirry Mugler and the Aldi dupe for everyday use.

NotSpaghetti Sat 22-Jul-23 15:04:57

Would be nice Bossyrossy to have one for home use - for you then maybe?
I think the original is fabulous and SO wish you could smell it - especially as you are generously wearing it for others!

SueD Sat 22-Jul-23 15:12:12

I have three. A next perfume which I wear for everyday, Eau de Lancôme that I wear for going out and Rive Gauche that is for high days and holidays. I wear perfume every day and it’s part of my daily routine along with moisturiser and lippy. The full works are for going out days and add in some eye make up for evenings

Irismarle Sat 22-Jul-23 16:51:03

It is interesting to read that some people wear perfume for the benefit of others. I think after a while you become so used to a perfume that you don’t smell it yourself any more, but others still can. Although I wear perfume mainly because I enjoy the smell myself, I can think of three occasions when strangers asked what my perfume was. The answers were Chanel 19, Fragonard’s Patchouli and Paco by Paco Rabanne. The latter came in a tin, and I’m not sure if they still do it.

BridgetPark Sat 22-Jul-23 17:53:54

I used to love Dior Dune, a beautiful fragrance, but hard to track down. My newest favourite is a L'ancome Idole, its strong and very long lasting. I also love Clinique Aromatics Elixer. There are so many on the market these days, I suspect there is big money in it, it's cost has rocketed, sadly.

NotSpaghetti Sat 22-Jul-23 18:24:10

My husband has a bottle of Gautier's Fleur du Mâle which is lush, floral and intense which I occasionally "borrow" - I think some fragrances are decidedly unisex.
Some of the Tom Ford's are - eg. Tobacco Vanille.

Nonnadiana Sun 23-Jul-23 10:44:25

I love Eden by Cacharel. I keep one in my handbag. I used to like LAir du Temps
