Can I ask you which sites/shops you use for fashion and styling inspiration? So many sites for "older women" are aimed at 50yrs, even Gransnet does this. It's 20 yrs since I was 50 and I am in need of a new look. Any suggestions ?

Now to watch the video on boots which Casdon kindly posted

Thank you for starting this thread, I’m really enjoying looking up all the sites being suggested. I can’t get out and about at the moment and this has given me a real lift.

For jeans, jeggings and leggings it's M & S. I'm just 5 ft tall so their short range is a perfect fit. For knee length dresses, often fit and flare, which I wear with opaque tights and ankle boots, I am finding a lot I like in Fatface. They are probably meant to be worn shorter but, being short, they usually land on or an inch above the knee, which seem to suit me at 71.

I ordered short jeggings from M&S. I am 5ft tall and I had to cut three inches off them today, their sizing is not consistent.

My daughter bought me a 4 hour wardrobe edit with a stylist for my upcoming 'big' birthday. I was incredibly nervous ( visions of someone disdainfully plucking items from my cupboards ) but she was amazing. Very little thrown out and my suggested shopping list was accessories - scarf, belt, chunky jewellery. She put things together in different ways and organised my clothes into things that go together. As an example, one dress that I had ( black, oversized jersey, Oliver Bonas) that I honestly haven't worn for 2 to 3 years is now a go to with leggings or coloured tights (I buy Snag) white shirt or a thin long sleeved tee underneath. She added a scarf, a snood chunky necklace to show how it could be dressed up for meetings/ socialising or down for the school run.

My task for today is to take a note of these sites!

I’ve just had a look, I really like the interchangeable crossbody bag straps, what a good idea - I’m very tempted.

DH has just bought me a dress from Seagrass. 💕

Marydoll & Blossoming - I'm so pleased to hear this thread has cheered you up, that's lovely.
Posy, I love the sound of a wardrobe edit, I will look into it but I'm not sure I could bear the embarrassment at someone eyeing over my rag, tag and bobtail collection of clothes. Delighted to hear it worked for you, what a thoughtful gift.

p0Sy That's what I used to use online style websites for - if you can find someone who has a similar colouring and shape it's like having a personal catwalk in your living room. Sometimes other people just put things together in a way I wouldn't think of and provide a bit of inspiration. Even if their style is very different to mine it's still interesting seeing how they put colours together and accessorise.

Love this post! Made me laugh out loud and I’m still smiling….thank you

I meant to add this comment to one that talked about whatever horrors are going on in the world, there’s no point in sitting around looking like a sack of spuds with a face to match…but it just came as a stand-alone comment.
Loving this thread and off to look at the Texture website

I agree. Why does being 70 have any effect on what you wear? I agree that skin tone and hair colour might cahange the colours that suit being worn near the face but for heavens sake wear what you like!

I’ve been looking for a long grey cardigan - and just found one here…..

Here's the lady that I saw
www.thecharlotteedit.co.uk/
She's on Instagram too. She has saved me a fortune - we're going away in November and I had a list as long as my arm of stuff I thought I needed.

p0Sy Thu 19-Oct-23 18:24:34

Greyisnotmycolour - the first thing she asked me to try on I modestly went into the bathroom b4 emerging. An hour in and I'm there, saggy bra and all whipping off garments.

Greenlady102 I think I just worded my original post badly. What I meant was that the sites I was finding online weren't much inspiration and what I really wanted to know is what real women 70+ are wearing. The answer is anything and everything that takes their fancy, isn't that great? This thread has become a great resource for all of us, I've discovered at least 20 companies I've never heard of and have plenty of new places to find clothes other than the narrow range I've been buying from for too many years. I think I might try the personal shopper service at John Lewis just for the fun of it and I've just bought a lovely pair of duck egg blue gloves from Seagrass, so thank you ladies who posted that site and to all of you for your contributions.

Maybe we could start a thread of Show me your pictures - favourite outfits (you don't have to model it) that'd give those dull "Fashion for 50+" sites a run for their money.

Greyisnotmycolour Thu 19-Oct-23 18:39:28

Posy that's brilliant & made me laugh , sounds like you had a great time.

I have a calendar with pictures of DS and family. I have just looked at this months.

It shows DS, DGD and DGS at a pumpkin farm. DGD, 15(at the time) is wearing a mid thigh length khaki padded jacket, large burnt orange sweater and black leggings. I, at 80, have and wear exactly that same outfit. The ony difference is that she is wearing white trainers with it and I wear black.

As we say, what has age got to do with what we wear?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 19-Oct-23 21:19:38

Monica I totally agree 👍🏻
