Skirty Shorts??? Or Do I Mean Skorts???

Do you really want a skort?
The shorts with the flap at the front that covers only the front of the shorts?

Culottes do not have this flap across the front, they look like a skirt from all sides... they don't look like shorts from the back.

I took it that the OP wanted culottes.
Might be wrong?

OP I bought a skort in white from TKmax for physiotherapy appts.as I didn’t want to wear leggings or tight shorts.. hope you find a skort😀

But still people are offering the 'skort'.

In my opinion the skort is hideous with its ridiculous flap-over!

Generally, coulottes are below the knee wide trousers, skorts are above the knee skirt with built in short liner.

Culottes are loose fitting shorts that look more like a skirt when worn. They are similar to a skort (garment that is mix between short and skirt) but not exactly. A skort has a skirt panel with shorts underneath.

I used to have culottes (not all below the knee). I'm pretty sure I'm correct in calling them culottes.

Culottes were very popular in the 1940's. My mum had somehow managed to keep an original pair from her youth which I nabbed as a teenager in the 70's. They had the Utility label inside and I think were made from linen. They were very flattering and just above the knee.

Culottes then had a revival in the early 1980's and I bought a really lovely pair in Ercolano market in Italy. They were so comfortable and again very flattering.

Actually, flappergirl, now you mention the 1980s I remember buying a beautiful culottes and blouse set in the early 1980s.
Mine was bought in Southern Ireland - along with a fabulous cashmere swing coat! 😍

I decided to buy a skort this summer and I love it. They are more modest than shorts or a skirt. The hem is at the top of my knees. Very comfortable.

The nice thing about a skort is that it looks like a nice skirt but is has lightweight shorts underneath. You can be casual with sandals oe sneakers or a little more dressed up with low heels. I can barely feel the shorts.

Maybe you could find some "modesty pants". Sort of cotton jersey leggings which stop above the knee, to wear under a skirt. Then you could change them more frequently, as in this hot weather they will get sweaty but the skirt part wouldn't.

When I first came to Germany in the 70s it was quite usual for girls to wear a "Hosenrock" - a split skirt. Literally "Trouser skirt". I couldn't see the point in them because you would have to take them down to go to the loo. I suppose if I had been getting about more by bike I would have seen a use for them as we weren't allowed to wear trousers to the office in those days.

Chub rub shorts. Very useful. My daughter and nieces have all worn them for several years.

Hi NotSpaghetti. We were obviously international culotte trend setters! I also bought an absolutely beautiful burgundy coloured swing coat in Ercolano to go with my culottes. I wore both of them to death and sadly they are long gone. I still think about that swing coat.

I dont understand why they might feel cooler in hot climates. Surely just a skirt would be more comfortable without the need for bunched up fabric between the legs?

No, I don't think so. Talking about short shorts, with a short skirt over. Saw lots of them in Decathlon the other day.
