Women’s Parallel Wide Trousers - love or loathe?

Do you like the new wide leg trousers that are abundant in the shops this Autumn and will you be wearing them?
I bought a smart black pair this week and like the style. Of course we wore them in the 70’s so they are not new.
The advantage for me is they skim over my lumpy bits at the bottom and thighs.

Most people look awful in them. Casdon is right. They only look ok on tall thin people.

I quite like them, reminds me of the 1960s. Wish I still had the same figure, though!

It’s taken a while, but I do like them, not to extreme tho. So many styles these days are reminiscent of things already seen. But then that’s fashion I guess there’s only so many ways to present trousers each season before you see reproduction in some or partial form.

You and me both Nanna8😁

I have a few pairs of wide-ish leg cotton/linen ones for summer, but now I want some straight-leg trousers, not jeans, pref. cord, but not very skinny/very wide leg/ankle grazer, let alone those very wide, mid-calf ‘crops’*, and not ‘mid-rise’ either.

*to me they don’t look good even on their size 8, 5’ 10” models.

Very disappointing trawl online last night, so of course there’s an email this morning - ‘Did you see something you liked?’

No I didn’t! 🙁

Hate them. When you're short and fat, they look awful!

Oh definitely not good when they are over-long.
I think Queen Camilla wore some last year at an event and comments were not favourable. I recall they were a nice cobalt blue, perhaps others remember them?

Think it was a jumpsuit.

I don’t like any trousers that are too extreme, so not too wide nor too narrow. In between is best for me. I also don’t like the look being pushed of wide trousers hanging in folds on the floor. Apart from being dangerous, they look like you couldn’t be bothered to get them taken up!

😄or a pair of puddled curtains.
I’m not keen on them, and just buy boot cut jeans for Winter.

Im very pear shaped just wish I was taller. I’ve bought two pairs of these lately and can’t make my mind up about them. There’s no loose material around my thighs, but then I look the same shape from waist to ankle if you see what I mean. They might look better with heels, I’m 5ft 4.

Athrawes Sun 29-Sept-24 11:14:24

I like them but unfortunately don't suit me as I'm shorter now and would look like a box!

Millie22 Sun 29-Sept-24 11:24:23

I really like them as long as they are not too wide.

Not too sure about the winter though shall probably wear my usual fitted trousers.

TillyTrotter Sun 29-Sept-24 13:41:28

Bought a pair of wide jeans and am wearing them today with a fitted blouse and 2.5 inch heels. They feel nice and remind me of the Oxford bags I wore when I was in my early teens.

I like them, I have slim hips but sturdy thighs so they're flattering on me. I haven't got any yet this time round - might have a look in the charity shops as I probably wouldn't wear them everyday walking the dog & tending the garden & round the supermarket but they'd be nice to go down the coffee shop in.I think they look better with tops tucked in or fairly short & shaped, so the waist is defined.

I like them, bought a pair of indigo jeans, nice snug waist.

Tenko Thu 10-Oct-24 12:06:38

TillyTrotter I’m wearing mine with boots now too.

Loathe

lemsip Thu 10-Oct-24 20:13:37

Loathe all that material to launder.

JamesandJon33 Thu 10-Oct-24 20:26:58

Like them but they don’t like me

crazyH Thu 10-Oct-24 20:40:51

No, not for a shortie like me 😂

Iam64 Thu 10-Oct-24 20:58:48

I like them. I don’t like the ankle skimmer look though. I’m 5’ 8” (and a bit). As a young woman I could never buy trousers long enough, I’d let hens down, or sew 2” of fabric onto my jeans to extend the length
So I can’t wear cut off styles - takes me back to feeling too tall - which I’m over unless,…..

JamesandJon33 Fri 11-Oct-24 08:00:27

Love ankle skimmers, or just a tad shorter. Wear them at the moment with knee length socks and clumpy shoes

Marmight Fri 11-Oct-24 08:22:21

Can’t stand them. Unless you are tall and willowy IMO they do nothing for you! They seem to be worn far too long, draping on the ground making them not only dirty but a trip hazard. Not a good idea on an escalator 😱

Redhead56 Fri 11-Oct-24 08:39:54

I didn’t like and wouldn’t wear them when I very slim and young. They are not a good look I can’t see how they would be comfortable as they look like curtains.

MissAdventure Fri 11-Oct-24 08:42:37

I wore some at some point, the wind blew up my legs and the trousers inflated, then wrapped around my legs.

Blooming dangerous.

It's a good job I'm too fat to wear them.
