Is it me, or is this a pretty ghastly look? Even if you’re young?

In an email from M&S just now.

M&S have really list their way with women's fashion. They are trying to appeal to the young market but they would not shop in M&S. I like their underwear, find the odd item of clothing here and there but really struggle now to find an outfit from their ranges. I now shop online a lot as the choice is better and I can try on at home with correct underwear, shoes, accessories etc. Never thought I'd prefer online to actual shopping but I do now.

I quite like it!! She has a serious face - yes- but that’s ok.

Maggiemaybe Mon 16-Sept-24 14:26:13

I quite like the look. And I’m obviously not the only one, as all sizes of that jacket are sold out online. smile

I think sulky’s been a popular look for models for many years.

Maggiemaybe Mon 16-Sept-24 14:28:26

Oh, I’m wrong, there are four left in size 10! Sadly I haven’t got a spare £250.

I don't like it but then fashion has always been about differentiating yourself from those not so much in the know. She looks a lot better than I do even when I'm trying, so who am I to criticise just because I wouldn't wear it. I bet my mother had similar thoughts when she helped me patch fashionably frayed loons and tried not to comment on the length of my micro-mini skirts...😂

Their cotton socks are comfy and vfm.

Jewelle Mon 16-Sept-24 14:32:04

Ooh I like that jacket! Not the overall look but the jacket may just pop into my online basket!

Maggiemaybe Mon 16-Sept-24 14:34:08

You’ll have to be quick, Jewelle. It looks as though it’s sold out in most stores as well.

Thank goodness. My "resting face" is miserable. 🙁

Yes they have 4 left and I can collect tomorrow morning from my local branch!

I like the skirt as well. I’m not to be trusted with leather though since I believed the one person online who claimed that my beloved suede skirt would withstand a gentle 20 degree wash. Spoiler alert - it did not.

grin😁😄😃😀🤣

One section I like in M&S is the recently bought Jaeger clothing. Mind you, I didn’t step out my habitual zone of long and short sleeved striped t-shirts.

Will be sticking to smart and stylish. Sadly M&S are trying to appeal to the younger generation who wouldn't shop there. I'm more Whitestuff & John Lewis now.

TiggyW Mon 16-Sept-24 16:22:15

Typical tall, stick thin miserable looking model! Looks as though the jacket is falling off her shoulders. Wouldn’t suit me anyway as I prefer longer jackets. I do like real leather though, but the loss of the Winter fuel allowance won’t allow me to shop in M&S! Maybe from Vinted…

Saabsal Mon 16-Sept-24 16:24:35

Dreadful! Not just the model but the clothes too.

TiggyW Mon 16-Sept-24 16:29:00

This was my personal favourite in Asda last Spring. 🤣 Is she trying to be gender neutral?

ReportNetherbyg84 I'm in Glasgow too, mid 50s, size 14/16. My issue is I'm short - 5 foot 1.5 inches - yes, the half-inch is very important smile. M&S have been making trousers/jeans in several lengths for ages but they seem to think that short women can wear standard tops, jackets and coats - we can't. We end up looking oversized and 'drookit' like the sulky model pictured here. As for sulky models, that's always been fashionable. For some reason, fashion thinks sullen is cool. 250 quid for a gold leather parka/cagoule is a complete rip-off, especially when pensioners can't even afford fuel this year. M&S aren't thinking straight; this makes them look callous.

I think it looks fine. Can we maybe not waste time and energy criticising outfits that others might like?

No one is wasting time or energy - just having a simple vote of Like It or Don't Like It. Just as you would when looking at a piece of art. Fashion is art.

sunglow12 Mon 16-Sept-24 18:47:11

I won’t be buying it - even if it turns up in a charity shop in years to come !

Stella14 Mon 16-Sept-24 19:00:13

I think it’s fine. Everyone has their own taste. We express ourselves through what we wear.

Ilovedogs22 Mon 16-Sept-24 19:52:23

Agree, a cool, super cool look. 😎

Ilovedogs22 Mon 16-Sept-24 19:53:27

Agree 👍

Ilovedogs22 Mon 16-Sept-24 19:57:47

Sorry got confused & answered myself!!!!!grin

Jennerdysphoria Mon 16-Sept-24 20:21:26

I don't aim to follow fashion when I buy, but the impression I have from the slumped, sulky models and clothes displayed is a message of "Anything goes, the looser, bulkier and odd-looking the better". Or, as Melania Trump literally signalled on her coat "I really don't care". I was puzzled by that, but maybe this is the answer.
