It is one of the sad unforeseen consequences that people having more money for clothes, doesn't mean they buy better quality clothes, but just buy more cheap as chips clothes.c;othes that seem to have the same life span as a chip.
When I was a child, the aim of the women in my life - mother, grandmother, aunts was to be able to buy really good quality clothes. Brands were desired, but brands with reputation for quality. My aunt saved enough up to buy herself a Burberry mac and she was so proud of it, told everybody and wore if for about the next 30 years.
When you bought clothes you felt the fabric, looked at the seams and checked how well the buttons were sewn on. You would have thought more money would have meant more better quality clothes selling.
I am still old school in my clothes thinking and getting more so, now I realise the environmental cost of all clothes. I am now much more selective about what I buy, I probably spend a lot less on clothes than I used to, but the clothes I buy are more expensive, and better quality - and last longer.
