I love animal print and I have seen so many shops with leopard print in this year but I'm not sure how on board I am with it, what are your thoughts? hmm

I’ve always liked leopard orint nit overdone but subtle just bought a beautiful saloos top and it’s beautiful. I always feel dressed in animal print.

I would never wear animal print. I think my dislike of it stems from an incident in the 1960s, when my Auntie Margaret came to visit us wearing a leopard print jacket. My mother opened the door to her and said, “Dear God, what do you look like? Don’t ever show up here wearing that again- I don’t want people to think I know a common tart!” Auntie burst into tears and had to be soothed with Battenberg cake and whisky!

I think that would put me off my mum, not leopard print! shock

MissInterpreted Wed 25-Sept-24 18:46:06

How very unpleasant if your mother Dempie sorry but she sounds a dreadful woman, your poor aunt. If you cannot be kind, be silent.
I think animal print can look very classy. I wouldn't wear it from head to toe but its each to their own,

I don't own any leopard print; it's just not for me.

However, I did own a pair of sandals in a black and white snake/reptile pattern that went really well with a lot of my summer wardrobe. I was sad to toss them when they were worn out, and I haven't really found a good replacement.

Not for me, but I don’t object in general. Some of it really does look cheap and nasty, though.

MsSalander Wed 25-Sept-24 19:30:22

I think it depends on so many things, like how modern the print is, the colour and what you wear it with.

I have a cream and beige cheeta print midi skirt, which i wear with flat beige suede boots and a cream mock neck chunky jumper, which i think looks great.

I'm not a fan of traditional prints though, worn in a traditional style, i.e. leopard print and black high heels.

Asking for a friend - are my (oops, I mean her wink) leopard-print Doc Martens tarty?

NotAGran55 Wed 25-Sept-24 20:51:26

Polyester tops and elasticated waist trousers from Primark look cheap and nasty too, but plenty of women of a certain age wear them!
Each to their own, luckily we are all different.

I’ve always adored Leopard print !
It makes me laugh how it’s ‘in’ ar the moment - every Autumn/Winter it’s ‘in’…
Looks great with black, Tan or Red - can’t wait till it’s colder and I can bring mine out❤️🐆

My friend tole me to tell you, to tell your friend, that docs can never look tarty. wink

It’s a big NO from me on many levels. Bet Lynch. Barmaids. Dead animals. Those fox tails that old ladies used to wear round their necks . Yuk.

karmalady Thu 26-Sept-24 06:30:38

Yuk, tacky. I recently threw out some leopard print fabric, nice fabric but not the print. It was a pot- luck remnant. I would never choose to buy animal print. Give me japanese print fabric or indian print any day, or plain linen with its own woven texture

My daughter bought me a leopard print faux fur jacket. I haven’t worn it though I haven’t thrown it out, either. I have a memory of this tarty middle aged lady wearing one from when I was a student. I remember thinking she was ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ and very ‘common’. Dreadful word but that’s what it was like then. To be honest, I still think they look unattractive.

I love animal print I’ve a carer who wears it all the time she looks fabulous

MissAdventure Thu 26-Sept-24 08:33:53

I'm not sure exactly what common means, in the context of clothes.

Unless someone has their bits hanging out, and a thong on show, or something of that kind, I can't see that a pattern can be common.

Lovetopaint037 Thu 26-Sept-24 09:46:29

I don’t care for it at all. Back in the day a long time ago it was associated with being seen as “common and tarty”. I can’t get that out of my head.

I know it's considered fashionable right now but I hate animal prints, always think they look cheap and nasty although I know they're not.

My Hobbs animal print mac cost me about £250 over 10 years ago so definitely not cheap and nasty.

Over a certain age animal print is fine in moderation.I don’t like to see older ladies wearing it head to toe.It can look a little bit like Bet Lynch if overdone.

Do people wear it head to toe? It was part of Bet Lynch’s character along with the beehive hairdo and huge earrings.

I have met women who say they love animal prints but dare not wear it as they don’t like to stand out.

I would rather wear an AP scarf or jumper than a beige anorak with matching trousers. You’re only here once!

vegansrock Fri 27-Sept-24 20:08:18

I wouldn’t wear a beige anorak or AP either thanks.
