Great idea. I always have lots of tops and lots of bottoms, but never the twain shall meet!

Probably why I've got a wardrobe full of black trousers

I bought a mohair gilet last week, and when I tried it on at home I realised I could wear it with the buttons at the front or down the back. That's 2 ways. Maybe I'll try it over my bottom as a skirt next!

Good advice! I have (had) a few items bought full price because I absolutely had to have them….. sold on Vinted 12 months later…never worn 🫣🙄

I cannot be bothered with mixing and matching. I put an outfit on a hanger ready composed, so that all I need do is take the hanger off the rail and everything is ready and sorted for me to wear.

The shorter the better!

I have a lovely soft purple/dark lilac cardigan in the wardrobe, never worn it because it goes with nothing I have, bought because I liked it.

When I go clothes shopping for a dress, for example, I go shopping in my favourite dress, the one I think I look best in. If the dress I'm trying on doesn't look better on than the one I already have, I don't buy it. Past experience has shown me that if I'm going out I'm always going to choose the one I look best in so if the new one doesn't look better it is highly likely to stay in the wardrobe. I've stopped buying a lot of clothes which ended up gathering dust in the wardrobe this way and I mostly I really like things I buy now and get far more use out of them. If I don't have say a favourite top on when I'm shopping I do the same when I get home. Only keep if it looks better than what I already have. Works quite well for me.

If you only buy clothes in colours that suit you, and your clothing style you can’t go wrong.
I’m a true autumn, natural ingenue, and would never buy anything that wasn’t.
Everything in the wardrobe is right.

52bright I'm with you on this, if the garment you're trying on doesn't look any better than what you're wearing, leave it.
Having said that, clothes do go out of fashion and now and again updating becomes appropriate.

Why is it uneconomical? everything gets a wear in turn. Nothing hangs in my cupboard unworn.

I work on the basis of having a relatively small wardrobe of clothes and wearing them regularly and when they wear out replacing them. The last thing I want to do in the morning is ahving to think about what to wear. I just want to reach out, take a hanger and know that a complete outfit is on that hanger.

Allira have you got some black or grey trousers, black jeans or a black skirt that you could pair your lilac cardigan with? Is it a high buttoned cardigan that could be worn as a jumper or does it require a blouse or sleeveless top to wear underneath it? If it requires something to be underneath it, perhaps another tonal colour that would work with it (eg a lighter shade of the lilac/purple of the cardigan) and work with the trousers/jeans/skirt. It seems such a shame not to wear it if you like it.

It’s a good idea I am an impulsive buyer without doubt so will consider my options more wisely hopefully.

I have a few linen dresses which are nearly the same but different colours. I wear whichever is ironed - a bit like a uniform.
I wear things underneath in poorer weather.
I hate having to find outfits so mainly just wear the same thing!

Yours would go well with my lilac Ben Sherman boots I found in TKMaxx many years ago when I didn't need them. They've had so much wear ever since 🤗

I have two types of outfits, tunic (Seasalt) and leggings or a dress (again mostly Seasalt) except when we have a hot spell it's shorts and T shirt and cold weather jumper and jeggings. Done.

Similar here Shantygirly jeans with t shirt/long sleeved shirt/jumper, dependent on the temperature. Shorts in summer, or if it’s really hot a long cotton dress, that’s about it, I too replace clothes as they wear out, I don’t buy for the sake of it.

My late husband didn't have any dress sense. I put a shirt, jumper and trouser and tie on a hanger for all his outfits. He thought it was great as he knew everything would match.

Clothes are my worst nightmare. Usually by an outfit for a specific occasion without any thought of how else it can be worn. Seems a good idea, but will I use it, will wait and see.

That's a colour that goes well with reds, maroons, khaki greens.. just get the tones similar.. It's a lovely colour
